Dec 12, 2009I have a contact for my mom which used to be her first name and last name which I later changed to just "Mom" in the first name box after getting an iPhone. At the same time I started syncing with MobileMe and have been having this problem for about 2 years. Every time I send her an email it changes her name from just Mom to Mom and then adds her last name back into the last name field.

Nov 8, 2010I save all my contacts in Address Book in the First Name field (not using Last Name Field). When I use Mail to send emails, somehow last name of the sender/recipient gets added to that person's contact. So John Harris becomes John Harris Harris - super annoying!
Someone suggested to delete all from Recent Recipients in Mail - I did that, it helped but only in relation to those contacts who have been deleted from Recent Recipients - is there a way to disable Mail poaching surnames from my emails and inserting them into address book automatically?

Jul 6, 2012I have upgraded to Lion so that I can use iCloud.when I select a contact in the address book, I can't tell what account it is in,
and I can't change the contact to iCloud if it's not already in that account, so the
contact comes up on my other devices.This seems like a very basic function,yet if I want a contact to be on iCloud, it seems I have to create a new contact with iCloud selected in the preferences.

Apr 25, 2012I have run into a similar problem before, when Address Book stopped accepting changes to contacts altogether. I followed advice I saw on the web and deleted the .plist files for Address Book in the Preferences file in my Library. That worked like a charm. Now, that doesn't work.
I have deleted the files, restarted my computer, verified and fixed permissions using Disk Utility, and let my computer rest overnight by leaving it off. Nothing works and I've tried several combinations of order. I am running Mac OSX 10.6.8 on a first generation Intel MacBook Pro. All software is up to date

Nov 21, 2010Using a G4 IBOOK with OS 10.5.8. Recently converted IBOOK from just my wifes computer to both of us so it is now dual usuage with both of us signing in to our respective files/e-mail, etc. My side has a problem never experienced before. My apple mail system address book has all the names the dock address book does but is missing almost 2/3rd of the actual e-mail addressess. I have tried to redo the dock address book in hopes it would change the "internal" mail book, but to no avail. It id difficult to add a recipient to an outgoing e-mail via the dock address instead of the apple mail address book.

So, I manually copied my files over along with select apps & preferences files.I got everything (Firefox, Thunderbird, etc) working exactly how I left them in Tiger. But, I messed up my Address Book and Mail. Apr 2, 2012My Mail and Address Book do not appear to be talking very well. Out of the box, the mail application does not appear to let me select recipients from the Address Book when composing a message. I added the "Address Book" button to the toolbar for composing a message. I can click this and bring up the address book, but there is still seemingly no way to select recipients from the Address Book.Â
I read somewhere that the "auto complete" function is supposed to reach out to Address Book when entering recipients' names in the "To" line. This is not working. I found some suggestions to go and delete a file in the Library that governs this function. I did that, but it has not worked.Â
What am I missing? Why is it so difficult to select people from your address book and send them an email from the Mail application? Is something broken here or is this a reality for this Mac? My wife is ready to kill me for throwing out her beloved PC.
