OS X V10.7 Lion :: Mail + Address Book - Groups Not Working?

Apr 17, 2012

I'm able to create groups just fine in Address book. However when it comes to using them in Mail, they won't work: I type the first couple of characters and Mail offers to auto-complete, so it does know about them. When I hit return at that point *nothing* appears in the address field, it just stays blank.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Address Book - How To Create Groups

Mar 31, 2012

Having just entered the world of Lion from Tiger I'm stumped my the Lion Address Book. All my contacts are there and I know how to create groups but when I create a new contact and add them to All contacts the new contact doesn't end up in alphabetical order. Same when I add a contact in say Family.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Change Order Of Email Addresses In Address Book / Groups / Mail?

Apr 12, 2012

Many records in my address book have multiple email addresses. No big deal but I wonder if there is a way to tell Address Book / Mail which address to pick as the default.

For example I send a litttle news email one a week to a group of contacts.  I want to send this email to people's personal -- not business -- email address.  I've created a group in Address Book and type that group name in my Mail to line and the group pops up.  But a few of the records pick the corporate address and I have to go in and change those addresses.

I just tried editing one record ... I deleted both "work" and "home" addresses from a record.  Then reentered them "home" first, "work" second.  But when I closed the edit Address Book listed them in the original order (maybe alpha).

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Address Book: Deletes New Contacts Made On IPhone, Can't Delete Groups

Apr 10, 2012

When I make a new contact on my iPhone, my iPhone recognizes it and it syncs and everything, but if I open Address Book on my laptop, it automatically deletes any new contacts I've made. Also, the "Delete Group" and "Delete Card" options in the Edit menu are always grayed out now.  This has become quite a serious problem as my contacts are disappearing every couple days! Is there any way to reset address book to it's previous state (of WORKING) without losing all my contacts?

OS X :: Import Only Groups From Address Book

Aug 28, 2009

I backed up my AB as an AB archive before doing a clean install if SL. Now when I try to restore from it, 1 of 2 things happens: It freezes and I have to force quit. It won't open again until I log out, and then it imported multiple copies of all my groups and none of the contacts. It imports all my groups but none of my contacts. By the way, I tried to post this 4 times from Safari, but every time I typed 1 character in the title, it froze up on me, so I'm posting from my iPod. Why did everyone keep saying SL was so stable? So far it's been unusable for me!

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Apple Mail Sends Out Emails When Turned On Adress Book Creates Groups Of Email Addresses?

May 4, 2012

I have had this issue with my address book for a while in that it creates new entries with just an email address as the actual entry and then hundreds of other email addresses from address book as this entry's additional email addresses.

At the same time I had an issue with Apple Mail that I thought was unrelated but now I am not that sure anymore. When I turn Apple Mail on, it sends out emails that look like an endless chain of responses (spam) to the same email that advertises  all kinds of stuff.

When I first noticed the issue I turned Mail off (a year ago). After updating to Lion I tried to use mail again but had the same issue and have not been using it since. But I appear to still find new entries in my address book all the time.

I ran some software (ClamX) but wasn't able to find any malware so far. I can't imagine someone hacking into my machine and doing all this my hand. For what?

So I am wondering whether anyone has had similar symptoms on their Mac?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Mail Not Integrated To Address Book?

Apr 2, 2012

My Mail and Address Book do not appear to be talking very well. Out of the box, the mail application does not appear to let me select recipients from the Address Book when composing a message.  I added the "Address Book" button to the toolbar for composing a message. I can click this and bring up the address book, but there is still seemingly no way to select recipients from the Address Book.

I read somewhere that the "auto complete" function is supposed to reach out to Address Book when entering recipients' names in the "To" line. This is not working.  I found some suggestions to go and delete a file in the Library that governs this function. I did that, but it has not worked.

What am I missing?  Why is it so difficult to select people from your address book and send them an email from the Mail application?  Is something broken here or is this a reality for this Mac?  My wife is ready to kill me for throwing out her beloved PC.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Can't Drag And Drop From Address Book To Mail

Feb 3, 2012

I have always used Address Book to store my email contact information in SL. When I wanted to send an email, I would drag and drop from Address Book to the "To:" field in Mail and it would add the contact information to Mail. I upgraded to Lion, and now when I try this, the address icon moves like it should, the little green circle with the + in it appears when I hover over the field, but when I release it does not add the address to Mail. The drag and drop does not work at all, but it looks like it should. I have searched all around but have not found any information about this.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Mail Fails To Recognize Names From Address Book?

Jun 18, 2012

If someone has me in their address book as Doe John and sends an email to me at my email address (johndoe@mail.com), Mail.app does not recognize me and asks me if I want to 'Add to Address Book'. The same happens if a sender has a minor change in the Name (such as even a dot in the name) of any recipient, regardless of the fact that I have the correct name in the address book. Mail fails to recognize the recipient even though the email address is identical, and will ask me if I want to 'Add to Address Book'. One would expect Mail to use just the email address and recognize the contact as already being in the Address Book.

2. Address Book editing

3. Mail doesn't show names from the Address Book

Laptops :: Apple Mail System Address Book Vs The Dock Address Bookk

Using a G4 IBOOK with OS 10.5.8. Recently converted IBOOK from just my wifes computer to both of us so it is now dual usuage with both of us signing in to our respective files/e-mail, etc. My side has a problem never experienced before. My apple mail system address book has all the names the dock address book does but is missing almost 2/3rd of the actual e-mail addressess. I have tried to redo the dock address book in hopes it would change the "internal" mail book, but to no avail. It id difficult to add a recipient to an outgoing e-mail via the dock address instead of the apple mail address book.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Address Book - Address Editing For Group Members?

May 20, 2012

how to specify which of several email addresses should be used for a member of a group.  It starts by selecting the menu item "Edit > Edit Distribution List."  From there it explains how to select the desired address for a specific person.  All well and good...

BUT...

Try as I might, doing various combinations of name or group selections in the address book window, I cannot seem to get the "Edit Distributuion List" item to be un-greyed.  Effectively, the program is not allowing me to do the edit function I need to do on this one group member.

Am I missing the secret handshake in this process?  Why should it be this hard to do this simple function?

Which raises the larger question of "What did Apple do to the Address Book application in general?"  This issue is only the tip of my iceberg.  The whole app seems to be harder to use than before.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Getting Groups To Show Up In Mail?

Jun 3, 2012

I have created a group in the Address Book. When I create a new mail and entered the name of the group, Mail shows only the name of the first person in the the To: field. How can I get it to send mail to the whole group?

A step by step:

In the Address Book I select Reagan, G Bush, Clinton, Bush II and Obama and go under File and select New Group and name it Enemies of the State.

I open Mail and create a new message. into the To: field I type Enemies of the State and hit Tab or Enter.

What shows up in my To: field is Reagan. No one else.

I go back and check the address book and there is certainly a group there. I click on Enemies of the State and it lists all the members of the group.
