OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Change Order Of Email Addresses In Address Book / Groups / Mail?
Apr 12, 2012
Many records in my address book have multiple email addresses. No big deal but I wonder if there is a way to tell Address Book / Mail which address to pick as the default.
For example I send a litttle news email one a week to a group of contacts. I want to send this email to people's personal -- not business -- email address. I've created a group in Address Book and type that group name in my Mail to line and the group pops up. But a few of the records pick the corporate address and I have to go in and change those addresses.
I just tried editing one record ... I deleted both "work" and "home" addresses from a record. Then reentered them "home" first, "work" second. But when I closed the edit Address Book listed them in the original order (maybe alpha).
I have had this issue with my address book for a while in that it creates new entries with just an email address as the actual entry and then hundreds of other email addresses from address book as this entry's additional email addresses.
At the same time I had an issue with Apple Mail that I thought was unrelated but now I am not that sure anymore. When I turn Apple Mail on, it sends out emails that look like an endless chain of responses (spam) to the same email that advertises all kinds of stuff.
When I first noticed the issue I turned Mail off (a year ago). After updating to Lion I tried to use mail again but had the same issue and have not been using it since. But I appear to still find new entries in my address book all the time.
I ran some software (ClamX) but wasn't able to find any malware so far. I can't imagine someone hacking into my machine and doing all this my hand. For what?
So I am wondering whether anyone has had similar symptoms on their Mac?
A friend of mine got his first mac, an iMac and wants to EASILY transfer his hotmail email addresses into the OSX "Address Book" app. There's got to be an easy way to do this so he can avoid transferring them in one by manually.
I recently added new names with their email addresses in "Address Book" - picked the Group I wanted and then clicked the + sign under Names and entered the info in the space to the right. I had already created a mailbox for each name and had gone through Mailbox-Preferences-Rules to have emails from or to routed to the correct boxes [which it did when I clicked on "Apply" at the end of this process]. All this to show what I did prior to choosing "New Message" in Email. When I got the blank email page, I clicked on the Address Book icon above to retrieve the address I wanted and only the names of the people I had entered were displayed, NOT their email addresses. I then restarted the computer - still the same. How do I get the addresses to show up?
I'm able to create groups just fine in Address book. However when it comes to using them in Mail, they won't work: I type the first couple of characters and Mail offers to auto-complete, so it does know about them. When I hit return at that point *nothing* appears in the address field, it just stays blank.
The contacts are unique, but each control group appears as many times as there are contacts in the group. Why is that? Can the contact group list be made unique?
I'm trying to forward an email to multiple addresses. I want to be able to view my address book and click on the names I want to the email sent to. How can I do this. Have a MacBook Pro.
I recently discovered that many random email addresses are being added to my address book. The majority is junk and is clogging my address book with entries that could possibly be spam addresses. First off, is there something I inadvertantly turned on? Is there a way to disable this feature? I have installed one tool called Attachment Tamer (ver3.0.10 from Lokiware) but this does not seem to have anything relevant.

Having now added a GMail IMAP account to Mail, I find that it's folders come at the bottom of the window, with 'Mailboxes', 'Trash', 'Reminders', 'On My MAc', RSS above the GMail Top level mailbox and therfore the subsequent cascaded mailboxes...
I have noticed that company entries in the Address Book don't seem to work like "person" entries in Mail. If I have a "person" named (for example) "John Doe", I can email that person just by typing "John Doe" in the To: section, and selecting from a list that populates automatically. However, if the address-book entry is for a company (e.g. Dave's Florist), it doesn't seem to work at all. And since Mail doesn't seem to have "address" functionality that lets you select from the Address Book, it seems like the only option is to go into the address book, copy the e-mail address, to back to mail, and paste.
How to make the contacts I have through the Mail program sync up or copy over to my Address Book? Speaking of which, does anyone know how to delete contacts from my Mail? When I go to send an email it can populate the send field with previously-written to contacts, but I can't seem to delete some I don't need/use. That's when I found out that my Address Book doesn't reflect the same things which lead me to asking.

I have transitioned my account to iCloud, but would still like to check my mobile me address through Mail on a computer that is still running 10.6. Due to some software that is incompatible with 10. 7 I do not plan to upgrade any time soon.
Maybe I'm a dumbass and missed something obvious, but in Leopard Mail, in the New Message window, there's a drop-down menu where you can choose which email to send the message from. But in Snow Leopard, the drop-down menu's not there, and I can't figure out how to choose which email address I want the message to be sent from. The only way I could do it is to click a message sent to that email address, then click New Message, the message will then send from that email address.
I backed up my AB as an AB archive before doing a clean install if SL. Now when I try to restore from it, 1 of 2 things happens: It freezes and I have to force quit. It won't open again until I log out, and then it imported multiple copies of all my groups and none of the contacts. It imports all my groups but none of my contacts. By the way, I tried to post this 4 times from Safari, but every time I typed 1 character in the title, it froze up on me, so I'm posting from my iPod. Why did everyone keep saying SL was so stable? So far it's been unusable for me!
I am trying to extract only email addresses out of Mac Mail so I can then use as input into address book or a mass mailer app. I have about 10,000 emails that need to be scanned. I have found an applescript at[URL].. which seems to have the right intent but not being an applescript expert when I run it it only creates a new workbook with the correct column headings and no content. I point it at the right mailbox. I have about 7 different mailboxes which hold emails received about a particular product which is the title of the mailbox (eg red product, black product). I figure I can produce an excel file for each mailbox and then join them togetehr adding a new column called product and populating it for the added products.
I have old addresses that pop up when I type an email. These are contacts in my address book who have changed their email addresses. I want to have only the most current address available. How do I permanently delete the old address?
Just started with MAC Snow Leopard and I have a question: Is there anyone who has already succeeded to delete address book entries/groups in Snow Leopard 10.6.2 ? I googled for no particular answers.
At some point in time I must have chosen to group names. I have many customers, for instance, with the last name of Johnson and instead of each person having their own card, they all get grouped together within one card.
Having just entered the world of Lion from Tiger I'm stumped my the Lion Address Book. All my contacts are there and I know how to create groups but when I create a new contact and add them to All contacts the new contact doesn't end up in alphabetical order. Same when I add a contact in say Family.

I have recently updated to iCloud - after trying for months and months to clear problems and more problems with my last year update to Lion..After my recent update to iCloud, several of my groups in the Address Book were duplicated. In the iPhone and iPad I cannot find any editing option for groups. But also in the computer, when I highlight the group and go to the Edit menu the option for deleting a group is gray and cannot be applied.
I have set up my Mac Address Book to sync with my Google Contacts. I have created some groups in my Google Contacts and I have created some groups in my Mac Address Book. These groups are not identical. After a period of time shouldn't they be?? What should happen in such a situation? How is the best way to manage Contact groups? I have an iPhone, and was looking at apps to create contact groups on it, but held back as I seem to be in a mess with my Mac and Google syncing, without adding to the confusion.
In Snow Leopards Address Book, I was able to select an Address Book Group and then shift-click to select a range of groups. How do you do this in Lion?

How do I change the Font Sizes in Address Book and Mail? I have done what the mail instructions say to do but does not work. Address Book I don't see anyway to change them.
