I've recently started my own business and have gotten involved with a number of networking groups. I'm now sitting here with a bunch of business cards. I have a Canon CanoScan 5600F that will let me scan the cards but I can only save them as PDF, JPEG, TIFF or PICT.
Rather than recreating all these business cards by hand, is there an easy way to import all these into Address Book?
Isn't it time there was a simple address book bundled into the operating system that would allow you to save business addresses, telephone numbers and contacts in a hierarchical fashion? I know we've become accustomed to saving contacts' info as individuals, as if they were our 'friends', but frankly that is nothing short of amateurish. I need a simple system that has the business name, address and main switchboard number - and then, on a different level, information on each contact, their direct-dial and mobile numbers. It may seem blindingly obvious, but if that office moves its headquarters, you would then have only one address and telephone number to change. I know this is amounts to a hierarchical database, and yes, I know I could set one up myself using something like NeoOffice - but why on earth isn't there something out there already that the business community can use?

i have finally decided to import my addresses from excel into address book (i switched from a PC about a year ago). i exported the addresses to a csv text file and then imported it from address book. that worked fine, i set up the right labels and then clicked okay on the "text file import" box after everything was set. the problem is, when i click okay, nothing happens. the program isn't frozen but clicking okay does nothing, nothing actually imports into the address book.

I need a database of names and addresses that can be exported into a word processor for output of paper letters, with envelopes. Would anyone know of the best way to effect this? Anymore I use email, but in this instance that will not work. The standard Address Book would work fine for the data, but I find no way of importing each name and address to a word processor, such as Text Edit. The closest I've come is exporting a vCard from Address Book, which then can be opened by Text Edit, however not only several steps required, but also a profusion of needless data entwining the name and address. If not wishing to pay for all the many features of iWork, I'm not even sure if this suite of programs would answer this task, either. If preferring to use the Address Book, what would be the best solution, possibly software, to do this?
View 4 Replies View RelatedAfter using FCP 7 for years, I have finally moved to FCP 10 and completed a course which didn't deal with this basic question. I have for example 3 SD cards, with video clips on them, lets call them, 1/ wide shot, 2/ close up and 3/sundry. I have created a library and have no problem importing data from SD_1, but I cannot work out how to eject SD_1 and insert SD_2 to import data and so on. Even after the MBP has imported, rendered and shows all background processes as "Idle" if I try to eject SD_1 it shows a message, "Card in use".

The display should be able to show part of one month and part of another --i.e. at the moment the last 2 weeks of December and the first 2 of January. Why can't the scroll wheel 'roll' the months up and down?
Address Book
I have something like 900 contacts in my address book, many of them remembered because of where they work, not because of there last name opr specific title or job. Yes, I do know you can check the book to have the company name displayed in the sort list but that's a slow and painful way of doing it--especially if you have 10 or more contacts working for the same firm and you then have to look at each in turn to discov er who you want.
I would like to be alter the display to show 2-lines of choice: say company above and last/first name below or maybe title below. I could then tell who is who without having to search each entry.
Ideally the sort function would be expanded to allow one to sort by, first, company and then, last name.
I'm running Leopard with all the latest updates. I did some googling to see if I could sync my gmail contacts with the OS X address book. I found this link:

Magic, I thought. However the prefs pane in address book on my system does not have Google listed, only Exchange, Yahoo and MobileMe. How do I get it to add Google to the list? Failing that, are there other methods for syncing gmail contacts with address book?
