Applications :: Save PDF Attachments From Mail Messages Automatically?

Oct 20, 2009

I find this maddening and have searched high and low for help, so hopefully you've got an answer.

In my Mail.app I have two accounts, one for personal email and one for work email. I also have a local mailbox titled "Submitted Forms." I receive forms from coworkers as PDFs in my work email account. I have a Mail rule established so that any email coming into my work email account meeting certain criteria (having an attached form, specified by name) is moved to the local mailbox "Submitted Forms." That all works fine. What I am trying to achieve, ideally using an applescript run by the rule, is to have any message that gets moved into that mailbox save its attachment to the desktop (or other destination folder). I have tried over a dozen similar-but-different example applescripts I've found online that claim to do this, but none seem to work. I've also tried tweeking each one with my limited knowledge of applescript to no avail. It really cannot be that hard for the computer to say "hey, there's a new message in that folder, I'll save its PDF to my desktop." Can it?

This is the basics of my goal. Ideally, the applescript/rule/computer would add the Received Date to the attachment name and would know whether it had already saved a given email's attachment(s), so as to reduce overwriting, possibly through read-status or flagging.

OS X :: Won't Save Mail App Messages With Mobileme

Apr 13, 2009

A number of times recently when I have opened Mail.app I get a message that says something like identity certificate of smtp.me.com cannot be validated. And I clicked continue anyway.

Anyhow, over the next day since opening it I created about 10 drafts and was working on them, and didn't particularly notice I wasn't receiving mail. I didn't notice anything was wrong until I finished one of the drafts this morning and sent it. It never sent. The window dissapeared but the message didn't appear in drafts or sent. So I took a look at the Activity window and saw about 15 things it was trying to do and not finishing any of them. I went through all my other drafts and tried saving them manually and they wouldn't save. They kept showing the darkened red close button to show thye hadn't been saved.

I went back to Activity and tried hitting the stop sign next to each process, but after doing that I still couldn't save the messages. I guess this was stupid and I wasn't thinking but I thought quitting and reopening might help. So I quit mail and it wouldn't let me quit (quit was grayed out), so I force quit. I reopened mail and that's when I realized something had been wrong since yesterday when I got that security message. I suddenly got 10 e-mails that apparently had been sent to me since yesterday.

I looked in my sent and drafts folders and the message I had sent is nowhere. The messages I had created since the security message yesterday are non-existent. And the messages I had edited since the security message have none of the additions I made to them. I went to mobileme support this morning and I was upset at how clueless the person was. He told me he thought my operating system was corrupted. It was a painful exchange. I called AppleCare and they didn't know what to tell me either and it was awkward. I have my MobileMe setting set to save all my mail on the server but is there a chance it could have saved a localized cached version of these message somewhere? I already looked under Library-->Mail, but it just reflects what's in my inbox.

OS X Mavericks :: Why Does Apple Mail Not Save Some Messages

Jun 27, 2014

The Mail feature on my MacBookPro is not saving all the messages from my inbox.  It did at first, a year ago, but in recent months I notice that some messasges are omitted.  They are not spam; they include messages from someone in my Contacts list, as well as other legitimate organizations, etc.  I tried to see if they were "combined" into some other related message, but saw no evidence of this, unless there is some hidden indicator.

Applications :: Incoming Messages - Pictures Shown As Attachments

May 21, 2009

Some of the emails I receive from friends show a placeholder for an image. The placeholder has the filename (example.jpg) in the top left hand corner. In the centre of the placeholder is a tiny blue square with a question mark. Is there a way to display the pics in the email along with the text. Funny stories are not quite the same without the pics! I can preview & download the images with no problem. So it looks like the images are there, its just that mail doesn't want to display them sometimes?

OS X Mavericks :: Save Email Messages To Computer And Not In Mail Program

Sep 7, 2014

My mail program seems to be slow.  I'm not sure why.  I get the spinning ball frequently.  I need to save mail messages sometimes for a few years and there are hundreds of emails. Is it better to save them on my computer than my mail program?  I may need to retrieve them at some other time so they need to be readable.  Is that possible?

OS X Mavericks :: How To Avoid Messages Going Automatically To Archive Folder In Apple Mail

Sep 1, 2014

I've been using Apple Mail (version 7.3 (1878.6)) on my MacBook Pro 13" (9,2) (MacOS 10.9.4) for years to integrate my GMail, university, and other e-mail accounts in the imap mode. Since some weeks, Mail is behaving odd: some messages are sent automatically to the archive folder. That's quite annoying, as I have to move them manually back to the inbox folder, and sometimes I mess some messages. I did not change any config in Apple Mail or my e-mails servers.

Software :: Hidden Attachments - Mail Application On The Mac To Recognize That There Are Attachments In The Email

Jan 11, 2009

I'm using MacOSX and Mac Mail. The cub scouts send a weekly newsletter via Scouttrack. When I view this on the Mac, I cannot see any attachments; it's like they are not there at all. When I view it from Outlook on a PC, it doesn't show the little paper clip, but when I open the email, then I can see that the attachments are there.

Is there any way to get the mail application on the Mac to recognize that there are attachments in the email??

Applications :: Mail.app Caches Attachments Again?

Feb 27, 2010

I have a problem with Mail.app.

I configured my Gmail using IMAP on mail.app. And i downloaded ALL my mails and attachments, meaning it cached all attachments and emails. It used up 4 GB of my data. I am on a capped bandwidth of 5 GB per month. I thought everything was perfect and suddenly last week....I checked my cap again, and i used 3 gb in 2 days. I checked and it was mail.app downloading my mails again and caching attachments all over again.

Why is this happening, i am scared to use mail.app again, because u never know when it will start caching all my attachments again and i will use up my 4gb in 2 days.

Applications :: Mail.app - Showing Sent Messages As Unread On Mail Badge?

Mar 3, 2009

I use an IMAP email account (provided by AOL) and every time I send an email it then comes in to my AOL sent items folder and displays an unread count on mail.app. It's infuriating.

I think imap stores the sent mail on it's server and I think I'm subscribed to all these folders so when it receives my sent mail, it sends a copy back to me.

I have tried creating a rule that mark all messages from me as read, but to no avail, it still does it anyway.

Applications :: Mac Mail - My Sent Mail Doesn't Show Up In Threaded Messages?

May 8, 2010

In an effort to make Mail more gmail-like, I selected the "View>Organize by thread" option. However, this only seems to group messages in my inbox and doesn't include my sent messages within the same conversation.

Is this how threaded messages are supposed to work? Just one side of a conversation? Or is there a setting to get my sent messages to show up in the threaded conversation?

I am using Mac Mail to check my gmail acct via IMAP. I am using the settings specified by google. I have selected the appropriate folders and mapped them using the "Use this folder for..." menu item. My sent messages are both in the Sent folder (for a while, then they disappear) and below in my Gmail>Sent Mail folder (always current). I have the option selected to store them on the server.

OS X :: Opening Attachments - How To Save Files

Aug 22, 2009

I have hopefully a question one of you can help me with. On my MacBook when I open a file - for example a zip file that has pictures in it that I receive in an e-mail. Until recently I would clik on the zip file to open it and get a "Opening Attachments .zip" box which is normal. I would then have the option to open the file (default is Stuffit Expander") or "Save File." I always click "Save File" and until recently the file, whether it's a zip file, or just a single file, would open on my DESKTOP. Well I must have changed something because they no longer are opening on my desktop...and I'm not sure where they are opening up and being stored. So long intro to hopefully easy question. Since the Opening Attachments box doesn't have an option to where that "Save" option puts that file, where can I go to find out where it's saving these files to?
