In Pages, you can change the default language to British English in the Inspector --> Text --> "More" tab --> Language: British English.
However, this reverts somehow in every launch of Pages. How do I set British English as the default language so that vocabulary checks are done according to British English?

I am bilingual, and use two languages on my Mac - English as default, and Russian as secondary. After the update to 10.7.4. every time I log back in (have a password on my Mac Pro), all the programs have Russian language. For example, I open a Chrome window to start typing in the web address, and it writes in Russian language. I cannot remove Russian language, as I use it as much as English language. But I would like to have English as default like I am used to. I have checked in the Preferences, everything is as it used to be, primary English, and secondary Russian. But the problem persists even after the reboot, changes in the Preferences.
It is not hard to switch between the languages, it is just annoying to expect the machine run in English, and then see the other language, and switch.
P.S. Besides, the English language icon is became more dull after the update. Not that I complain, just want to know if it is normal or there IS the problem with languages on my Mac.

What I want to do is change the language setting in Pages permanently. I've had answers telling me about the language setting, and International Input menus and so on, but I'm familiar with changing the language setting, as I write a lot of documents in French and in German, but I write more in English, so what I want is to be able to permanently change the setting so that every time I open a new document, the language is set to British English.

I cant read Chinese so i asked him to change it to English, which he did.He also left a lot of his personal information on here, which is not wise, but i am a nice guy and attempted to do a system restore. But when I visit Safari or Firefox, I want the language to automatically switch in English. I am a recent Mac switcher and am using Pages as my word processing software. After being a long-time Microsoft Word user, I have grown accustomed to the default font of Times New Roman, and I would prefer to continue using that for Pages as well. It played havoc with the registrar at my college. My Address Book card has my first name as "G" and my middle name as "Ralph". Whenever programs automatically fill in my name, they use my first initial only. For example, Pages puts my author name as "G Kuntz". I just installed iWork '08 on my new Macbook pro (snow leopard and general '09 programs are on it) and for some reason, the text coloring and highlighting, generally anything to do with the text and whatever appears on the pages themselves have completely gone blank. The highlight appears as this light purplish color, I can not get the text to read as visible. It appears white no matter what. Even the text blinker isn't showing. Is there a problem with installing iWork '08 on an '09 based Mac? This is a legal copy of iWork I've had since buying my first Mac, so I know it can't really be the disc screwing up, is there anyone that might be able to help? This is an image of the problem. As you can see, the black is the default font color, but it does not show up as it. Also, the general coloration of it is off.

I have added a language under the first tab, Language, only to find that there is no correspondingly supported input option under the fourth tab, Input Sources.
I would now like to remove the entry I added under the first tab, Langauge, but cannot figure out how to do this. I have tried highlighting and pressing delete, dragging it out of the window, etc., but so far nothing works.
When copying a table from say a webpage or even a RTF file, Pages does not retain its table formatting. Instead it separates the rows and columns and puts them on separate lines.
See it for yourself, try copying one of the tables on this page into Pages [URL]
The only way I can get the table into Pages is to paste into NeoOffice (which retains the correct formating), save the file with the .doc extension then open in Pages.

i have a early 2008 octo mac pro, with it im using a philips 220ws, the problem i'm having is that scrolling a page be it safari, firefox or a pages doc. it seems to jutter along and doesnt move as smooth as my mac book,and when typing into either msn messenger, pages or even text edit letters seem to lag behind what im typing, ok it may only be for a secon and about 2 letters behind burt it gets annoying worse when back spacing. does anyone else have the problem or possible fix? im not using anything more than than the word processor, safari and msn at a time
