OS X V10.7 Lion :: System Uses Non-default Language After Log In
May 22, 2012
I am bilingual, and use two languages on my Mac - English as default, and Russian as secondary. After the update to 10.7.4. every time I log back in (have a password on my Mac Pro), all the programs have Russian language. For example, I open a Chrome window to start typing in the web address, and it writes in Russian language. I cannot remove Russian language, as I use it as much as English language. But I would like to have English as default like I am used to. I have checked in the Preferences, everything is as it used to be, primary English, and secondary Russian. But the problem persists even after the reboot, changes in the Preferences.
It is not hard to switch between the languages, it is just annoying to expect the machine run in English, and then see the other language, and switch.
P.S. Besides, the English language icon is became more dull after the update. Not that I complain, just want to know if it is normal or there IS the problem with languages on my Mac.Â
Just bought my first mac (macbook air 11") and i bought it second hand. The guy that sold it to me, had the language set to Chinese. I cant read Chinese so i asked him to change it to English, which he did.He also left a lot of his personal information on here, which is not wise, but i am a nice guy and attempted to do a system restore. The whole restore menues were in Chinese but i managed to guess my way through it and now it seems to be doing a restore. I know the language can be changed once in the OS, however how do i do this for the restore partition?
I got a hand me down ibook from a relative but the default language is in German, I cant understand German. Is it possible to change the language display for commands , instructions and icons to English?
In Pages, you can change the default language to British English in the Inspector --> Text --> "More" tab --> Language: British English.
However, this reverts somehow in every launch of Pages. How do I set British English as the default language so that vocabulary checks are done according to British English?
I'm using MAC os 10.6.1 and my MBP region is Russian(Ukraine) I want to set my default language in applications (to type - not menu language)as English. How to do it? For some reason all application start and change my Input Source to Russian every time.
I live in NL but my first language is English, sure I'm learning Dutch and use it where I can but at home I prefer not to work so hard at understanding everything. Is it possible to live in one place but pick a language you prefer? Â
If I moved to a country like China Japan or Russia I'd really be in trouble ...Â
I've been trying to find a solution to this for ages, with no success. I'm not even sure it's possible, but I thought I'd continue to try. What I want to do is change the language setting in Pages permanently. I've had answers telling me about the language setting, and International Input menus and so on, but I'm familiar with changing the language setting, as I write a lot of documents in French and in German, but I write more in English, so what I want is to be able to permanently change the setting so that every time I open a new document, the language is set to British English.
How do i change the system language of my mac. I had to change it into Chinese. Since the Chinese guy is gone, how to change it back into english. I don't understand any of the Chinese writing..
I regularly e-mail/chat back and forth with friends in the Netherlands and Germany, so I was wondering if there was a way for me to do a quick system wide language change that could spell-check for me. So, what are those little flags for on my Menu Bar? I have the Dutch, German, and American flags, but I don't notice any changes when I switch between the three.
How to change the language of the system (detailed procedure).
Additionnal question: my mouse (wifi) works, but immediately after I have booted the system (a few seconds), the left clic does not work any more. What can I do?It is very difficult (impossible ?) to maintain the Imac without a mouse working correctly.Â
I've tried getting some answers to this from Apple support forums and my local mac forum but didn't get much info... I've removed some important language files while using monolingual (namely -English (American) -English (British) not realizing these are subset and required). I should've read the FAQ first... now some programs are appearing in weird character formats. Can I restore these language files with my Time Machine back ups? Which folder would I need to replace back with previous file? Since I did this only late last night, I should be able to just replace a certain system file folder, without causing much headache
I am thinking about buying a macbook pro and since my boyfriend is spanish and I'm danish, I would like to know if it`s possible to have danish as the language in the admin account, and then english or spanish in another account for him?
installer wasn't working for me while trying to install a new program from a disc I bought. Did all the software updates for my computer, and the installer now works..

I get a little annoyed when doing CMD+SPACE and seeing the list of lanaguages being switched between. So I did the normal thing I did on SNow Leopard/ Leopaard/ etc, and disabled the switch in Keyboard preferences.Even though they are both switched off, the langauges still come up when I choose cmd+space.

I reformatted my MBP a few days ago (yes, I'm crazy), and now when I decided to install Photoshop CS5 Extended, it did not bring the option of a 64-bit version, meaning my MBP is now running only on 32-bit mode. But I remember that when I installed it before, it did. So obviously I was running 64-bit mode. Did yours come by default with 64-bit mode? Should I go ahead and change it back to 64-bit mode?
Where are all the default system icons? like the applications "a" (not the folder with the a). if you plug in an ipod it automatically gets the right icon (shuffle has shuffle icon, etc.) are those on the ipod or system? where to find those icons? i know how to change them, but can't find the defaults...
after update to 10.6.3. my fonts are messed up. So I manually copy some fonts like Arial... but still they are not showing properly in web sites. Is there any way to back all font's to default?
how to change the image of the flag (not the language) on the menu? The correct question would be who knows where the image file of the flag is in the system folder.
I have an iMac and added LION to it. I have Fluenz software that I was using ok on Snow Leopard. I downloaded a fix for the Fluenz from there website that was supposed to fix everything. Now Fluenz does not work at all. When I take it off the iMac and try to reinstall the Fluenz I get the following message "You can't open the application Fluenz setup.osx because PowerPC applications are no longer supported".what I can do to fix this and get the Fluenz to run?

I have a Korean language keyboard that I'm using with Lion that has a key next to the spacebar for switching language (han/yang = korean/english). I would like to use this key to switch languages rather than apple space. Is there any way to make this happen? I tried changing the keyboard shortcuts, but am unable to do so. The OS doesn't recognize the key.Â
