Jan 27, 2010I do not use Remote Client on my MacBook Pro. In fact I do not even know what it is. Should I go ahead and download the update anyway?

I recently had a Onelan Digital Signage system installed which I can access whilst I'm at school via an IP address through a browser to edit and update contents, however this does not work outside the school. On the macs Apple Remote Desktop is enable and I can use it to remotely access Macs within school through Remote Desktop 3. I would like to access my Mac (at school) through my Windows PC at home so I can login to the digital signage system.

You don't have permission.'I then downloaded the combo client and attempted to run the package. It stated that 'The installation failed. The Installed can't create the folder "/var/folders/z7 etc.'Not exactly sure what is happening. I've tried repairing permissions, and it did not work. I am the only user on the account.

May 13, 2009I tried downloading the Mac OS X update from the update utility, and that failed. Then I went straight to apple and downloaded it from their website and it took about an hour--and I have a fast internet service! Once it finished downloading, I started the installing process. It installed, and then said it had to restart. I had to hard boot it THREE times because it would just freeze on the blue screen of death. Then it restarted on it's own three more times. Now FINALLY, I'm back up and running, but I've had some weird error messages and my Macbook Pro seems to be acting weird. Any other "success, or should I say fail" stories?

Mar 19, 2012I have been trying to download the app Remote from iTunes for the past two weeks without success. I had Remote installed and happily working, but earlier in the month the latest Remote update was probably broken and the app cannot be updated or re-downloaded from iTunes, the error I get is 408.
I am experiencing this both on my mac mini running Lion 10.7 and my iphone running iOS 5.1

Sep 11, 2009I updated to 10.6.1 and now my remote TM backup disk (connected to airport) will not connect. I can't make backups, nor can I access them. SL is some buggy update. If I had the time and could access my backup I would downgrade to 10.5.8!

Nov 5, 2009Recently I've been frustrated by having Mac OS X automatically downloading all software updates without asking. Sometimes I am on an internet connection where my downloading is limited and I don't want to be wasting the bandwidth on multiple updates that I don't need that urgently. I feel like earlier versions of OS X never started downloading the update without your permission to start the updating process. Is there anyway to ensure that the OS doesn't perform such tasks without having to resort turning off my wireless? I'm running 10.5.6 on a MacBook.

Mar 10, 2010Keep in mind I'm running on a Mac OS X 10.5.2 right now, and I recently had to re-install everything from the two discs after receiving the gray screen of death on the Macbook.
Whenever I try to download (or update) the Mac OS X Update Combined (version 10.5.8) under System Updates, I keep getting the following error:
"The update "Mac OS X Update Combined" can't be installed"
"The installer could not validate the contents of the 'MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.8' package"
I even went as far as downloading the Max OS X 10.5.2 (the version that I have) Update to no avail. Some of my Applications are either not opening up at all, taking long to load (spinning colorful wheel), or closing unexpectedly. Worse of all, there are times when I try to open up an application, and the top header (where the Apple logo, File, Edit, etc.) completely disappears and everything becomes unclickable from that point. I believe it's all in part of not having the system update, though I could be wrong.

Jun 17, 2012I am attempting to update to the lastest version of iTunes and receive the following error message:"The update could not be verified. It may have been corrupted during downloading. The update will be downloaded and checked again the next time that Software Update runs."Every subsequent time that Software Update runs it restarts the download from where it was interrupted, and gives the same error prior to completion.It seems obvious to me that the partial file I have on the computer is where the corruption lies, and I would like to delete it and start the update from the beginning.The question is, where is the partial file stored, and what is it called?

Oct 29, 2010Does anyone know if it is possible to download the Software Update files directly from Apple? Back when I used to work on Windows machines, I'd download Service Packs and burn them to CD, so I could avoid the time it took to download them for each individual machine that I set up. I would like to do the same for OS X. After a fresh install, there's always this 600+ MB file that takes forever to download. It would make my setup tasks and disaster recovery much quicker if I had the packages on CD.

Apr 21, 2012I recently downloaded a firmware update from Apple both as a stand-alone software and using software update but everytime I restart, my computer makes one loud beeping sound and tries to boot three or four times unsuccessfully and maybe on the fifth or fourth, it finally comes on. When I go through software update after this, it still shows the same firmware and same version of it as an update I haven't downloaded. And another thing it freezes a lot since I downloaded this firmware update. This is how it shows on software update; Macbook Pro EFI Firmware Update version 2.7 size: 4.1 MB.
