May 15, 2012Software Update says that 10.7.4 is available for download. I attempted to install it and type in all my usual password info, but the system says:'The update Mac OS X Update can't be saved. You don't have permission.'I then downloaded the combo client and attempted to run the package. It stated that 'The installation failed. The Installed can't create the folder "/var/folders/z7 etc.'Not exactly sure what is happening. I've tried repairing permissions, and it did not work. I am the only user on the account.

Feb 8, 2012I installed 10.7.3 (combo) from 10.7.2 yesterday on my Mac Mini and everything was smooth-ish, a bit of slowness here and there.
Today my Mac crashed completely, I couldn't Force Quit the app I was in, nothing. So I held down the power button and did a restart. After I did this, all I got was the grey apple with the spinning wheel for ages and ages, and then got a Kernel Panic screen.
I did what it said and restarted again. This time it just repeated and repeated the startup tone, and then going to kernel panic again.
I have tried everything I know of. P-RAM reset, Safe Boot, but nothing works.

Feb 16, 2012I installed the 10.7.3 Combo Update yesterday on my iMac (Early 2009) that has a Wacom Cintiq 21UX connected. Prior to updating, my system was working absolutely fine, and I could turn the Cintiq's power on/off at anytime without concern. Now, my system is consistently crashing when I turn the Cintiq's power off/on. A pop-up window appears that reads: "You must restart your computer."Again, this was not an issue prior to the 10.7.3 Combo Update.If I wake my iMac from sleep mode, with the Cintiq turned off, my system will immediately crash when I turn the Cintiq's power on.Similarly, if I cold boot my system with the Cintiq off, and turn it on at anytime after the Mac login screen appears, my system will immediately crash.

Dec 14, 2008Right after I ran the 10.5.5 Combo update my computer went haywire. I'm getting random -50 errors left and right. All kinds of stablility problems are showing up. I can't make folders. I can't copy and paste. I tried to download something from safari and it said I didn't have enough disk space even though I have over 250GB free. Then when I try to restart I spun on the grey screen for hours. Tried to reinstall the OS from the disk and it failed. Lost a lot of files. I switched users and my external HDs unmounted and couldn't come back. It's gotta be the update right? I heard of about 4 other people who use their computers in completely different fashions who all had the same or close variations to these problems when they installed the new updates.
Anyone experiencing this or am I crazy?

Ive tried the repair disk permissions and have downloaded the update directly from the apple site. I keep gettting this message (with a red exclamation mark):

Mar 22, 2010I've been having some issues with Mail (long story- anything after an image or an attachment in a message I create is showing up as a .htm or .txt file) and one suggestion that someone made was to download the 10.6.2 combo update and try to reinstall it to ensure that everything is all up to snuff.
Strangely, when I DL'd the combo update and tried to run it, my hard drive showed up with an exclamation mark and said I couldn't install it. Can one typically install the update on itself?
Also, is there any chance in heck that it will actually make a difference (friendly wagers here are fine, as I don't expect anyone to know for sure)?

I created a new user account today and for some reason I am unable to login using the new user account from a SL computer. I've been able to login using a lion client, but SL, no dice.

Jul 4, 2012I finally updated to new MBP (Retina display) from an old Powerbook running 10.5.3. I am finding that none of the PPC-based programs will run (but you already knew that), with the biggest problem being that I cannot import my mail. If I could get this to work, I believe I could work around everything else.
I was using Entourage 2004 (mainly because it could handle a huge Db -- which kept crashing Mail). I am really at a loss at what to do. Some of the potential fixes I've thought of is trying to download a newer version of Entourage on my old PB, import everything to that, and then move that over to the new MBP. But then again, many of the newer programs will not work on the 10.5.3 OS. I don't even have a problem using a different email client, or perhaps even web-based mail, but I need all of my "old" emails in one place that I can work from.

Mac OS X Lion Server :: App Cannot Connect From Client?
Jul 4, 2012I have a Lion Server running here on my company. Everything works just fine. With screensharing I can access it, I can start the Server app on the server OK> However I cannot open the server app on a client machine.It shows the Name/Password window, but denies access, even with my admin login credentials. I can access the server with Server Admin, but the Server app only works on the host machine. I presume it must be a DNS issue? I do not like to open the server app on the server because it shows, that it uses 40% of the processor ALL THE TIME, which I also think very strange.

Dec 2, 2010Have a G4 desktop running 10.3.5 that I tried to combo update to 10.3.9. The update was stuck at 30% for a long long time. I just figured it might take awhile and took a nap. I awoke and there was an error message that the update could not be completed. It said to try the update again by downloading it and then opening the package manually. So I was going to do that but a bit later the computer froze up and I had to force shutdown.
Upon booting the screen didn't boot all the way; only partially and then screen goes black. I ran Disk Utility from Install Disk to try to Repair the hard drive. It said keys were out of order. Later it said repair couldn't be completed because of an error.
I am running the Mac now from a Firewire drive with 10.3.2. I want to update the Firewire drive to 10.3.9 and want to make sure the same thing doesn't happen.

Oct 16, 2010i just updated from 10.5.1 to 10.5.8 with the combo update. it now will just hang at the apple logo. i have a dual boot on the same drive with 10.4.11 thus i am able to post this.. disk utility finds no errors. reinstalling is last resort..
