I downloaded a folder icon so I can use it on my dock. I used one that looks different from the usual blue folder. When I shut down the computer or restart it goes back to the bland blue folder. My questions is how can I keep the folder that I downloaded?
I recently replaced my white MacBook (OS X 10.5) with a new MacBook.
In the old dock: I had created a folder within the HD called "launcher"--so it would appear at the top of the list. I created a custom icon for the folder, created an alias on the desktop. I then put the alias in the dock. When I would click on the folder it would open like stacks.
New dock: If I do the above process, the folder opens as a finder window--no more stacks. If I pull the folder directly to the dock, without creating the alias, the folder opens as a stack, but the icon is gone and replaced with the generic folder icon.
Is there a way to have a custom icon and have the stack/folder open as stacks? I don't like the option of putting a image file as the first item in the folder because then the "icon" that appears is smaller and in front of the folder I hate.
How does one alter the size of the icons in the application folder on the dock? The icons are enormous, yet there are none of the usual size changing gadgets.
I accidentally removed the "Downloads" folder icon from my OS10 dock, and when I restored it there, it had changed to an icon of a PDF notebook. When opened, the stack shows only PDFs. What happened? How do I restore it to a regular Downloads folder in the dock?
Last night (really late) I accidentally dragged the Application icon off the dock. I found another, dragged it on - now a Contact icon sits right on top of it so you cannot hardly see the Application file. How do I separate them? I deleted the other Contact icon, thinking that would do the trick, but no.
I have a stack with all my movies in it unfortunately the icons are of the 1st od frame, which for most is black, in the folder i can turn off icon preview which reverts them back to their custom icons (the movie poster).
Does anyone know a way to turn off icon preview in stacks or just a stack preferably?
My stacks have disappeared from my dock. I used to automatically get my downloads on the dock and they fanned out when I clicked on it. That is gone now... not sure if I did something to get rid of it, but I want it back.
Right now, in my Stacks area I have my Firefox Downloads, Music, Movies, Pictures, and Documents. Most of them have a folder as the first item, so unless I mouse over them, I don't know which one is which. I had those folders have different icons in Tiger, but I'm not sure how to go about changing them now.
I installed 10.5.2 just about an hour ago, and I've noticed that my Dock is having serious Stacks problems now. If I have the Stacks set to List, there's no problem, but if I try to use fan or grid, the whole Dock freezes and I have to force-quit it from Activity Monitor.Anyone else having this problem? I'm experiencing it on both my Power Mac G5 and on my MBP.
I have lost the stacks icon from the dock...How do I get my documents to open in a stack that displays the fan style and not individually across the dock...I have tried to create a folder, but the documents are not going in that folder they are still lining up along the dock..
I have a network shared folder added to "Places" in Finder. I have also dragged a shortcut into the dock. The problem is that when I click the shortcut in the dock, the "stacks" doesn't pop up. Instead, it only pops up when I click a second time. After that, it works fine. It stops working after I restart the machine, so I have to click again for it to work.
So basically, it looks like when I click it the first time, it "makes a network" connection to my windows PC where the network folder is located. This looks like probable because the fact that under "Shared" in finder, the PC isn't listed UNTIL I click the mounted network folder in the "Places" in Finder.
I have this icon behind the Application icon on the dock and I cannot figure out what it is. It is not something on the desktop as I have moved the dock and can't see it, so it is definitely connected with the Application icon. I have deleted all downloads which could have been half done and I have removed an Alias I had in the Application folder. Now all the Applications appears as "Applications" in the "Kind" column when viewing in Finder.
i am wondering if there is a way to organize my dock icons in a better way and am familiar with the obligatory use of "stacks" for my Applications and Downloads etc. is there one way or various ways to handle this if I want to group icons in my dock? i found a url that describes how to do this by dragging apps from the applications folder but since i have already spent so much time doing this in the dock itself it it going to be a major pain to have to pick these out from around the ones that i am not keeping in my dock.
My Applications and Documents folder on my dock dont seem to have the folders with there symbols on it, they seem to other material. How can I get them to show the folders. Im running on Snow Leopard!
How do you change the hard drive icon picture in the top right corner to look like the macbook pro computer? I've seen this on a couple people's desktops and was just wondering how you do it. Also, how do you change the folder icon to something that looks cooler.
I know you can simply drag the whole bar down from the address bar into the dock, thus creating an icon, but is it possible to customize the image of the icon?
I am trying to change some of my dock icons, but every since I got 10.6.3 it wont let me do it. anyone else having these problems, and any suggestions?
