OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: "stacks" From Icons In Dock?

Feb 27, 2012

i am wondering if there is a way to organize my dock icons in a better way and am familiar with the obligatory use of "stacks" for my Applications and Downloads etc. is there one way or various ways to handle this if I want to group icons in my dock? i found a url that describes how to do this by dragging apps from the applications folder but since i have already spent so much time doing this in the dock itself it it going to be a major pain to have to pick these out from around the ones that i am not keeping in my dock.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Stacks Icons Don't Update

Feb 27, 2012

Ever since I've been using Lion (came pre-installed on my MacBook Air), I've noticed that the top icons in stacks do not update unless the Dock is restarted (with a "killall Dock" from the Terminal, or by logging out/restarting, etc). This happens for absolutely any folder that is added to the Dock as a stack. When a new file is added to the folder, the stack simply shows a generic white file icon on top. Once the Dock is restarted, the stack will show the proper preview as it should.

So far I've tried deleting and re-creating stacks, repairing permissions from Disk Utility, reseting ACLs on the home folder, and even deleting the caches and .plist files for the Dock, Quick Look, and Finder. Nothing has made a difference.

Mac OS X (10.7.3)

OS X :: Stacks - Icons Aren't Displayed Correctly

Oct 19, 2010

I am having a problem with the stack feature on Snow Leopard. For some reason most of the icons inside of my stacks are just displayed as a grey box with a dotted white line around it. As far as I can tell this only affects grid and fan mode.

Sometimes when I wait for some time (30 secs and more) or open and close the stack a couple of times the icons will eventually display correctly. I have already tried resetting the Pram and rebooting, as well as deleting the stacks and readding them.

OS X :: Icons Taking Time To Load In Stacks?

Sep 3, 2009

just finished installing 10.6. I have noticed that when I click on my stacks, icons for files in the stack take a couple seconds to load. This seemed to happen for the longest amount of time the first time I pulled up the stack after the 10.6 update. Even after a few times they will occasionally take a bit to load. Does anyone know a reason for this to be happening?

OS X :: Removed 'Stacks' From Dock Accidentally?

Jun 26, 2010

I thought I was moving something else to the recycle bin & at the last second realized I was dragging the stacks icon.

Was successful in missing the bin but must have dropped it off the dock & now I can't figure out how to replace it.

I would actually prefer to just have a 'shortcut/icon' for 'my pictures' there instead, as 99% of the time I clicked stacks I would go there.

I have an IMAC with OS X Version 10.5.8

OS X :: Stacks / Dock Folder Icon On MacBook

Mar 25, 2009

I recently replaced my white MacBook (OS X 10.5) with a new MacBook.

In the old dock:
I had created a folder within the HD called "launcher"--so it would appear at the top of the list. I created a custom icon for the folder, created an alias on the desktop. I then put the alias in the dock. When I would click on the folder it would open like stacks.

New dock:
If I do the above process, the folder opens as a finder window--no more stacks. If I pull the folder directly to the dock, without creating the alias, the folder opens as a stack, but the icon is gone and replaced with the generic folder icon.

Is there a way to have a custom icon and have the stack/folder open as stacks? I don't like the option of putting a image file as the first item in the folder because then the "icon" that appears is smaller and in front of the folder I hate.

OS X :: Changing Dock Background - Folder Icons And App Icons?

May 1, 2010

First off, I've searched the forums, but can't find an answer -- sorry if I missed something.Just got a new machine running 10.6.3 -- ugh, the dock and folders and so on look like clunky Windows junk :-(I miss my simple, elegant 10.4.11 dock ...I don't want to add novelty icons or that kind of thing, I just want a borderless dock that's semi-transparent or clear. And apparently all the apps out there to change the dock background don't work with Snow Leopard.I know CandyBar can help me with the folder icons and app icons, but as far as I can tell, not the actual dock background.

OS X :: Where To Find HDD Icons In Snow Leopard

Nov 17, 2010

One of the side benefits of getting my new iMac is that I get to see how a system looks when it's brand new, before I've messed with it.

When I set up Time Machine on my iMac I notice that the HD icon used looks pretty cool with a circular arrow on top. I didn't download it from some web site, it came that way. Over on my MacBook Pro the Time Machine HD icon is just white. I have no idea how it got that way.

My question is how do I get my MacBook Pro's Time Machine HD icon to look like the one on my iMac? Is there some hidden cache of icons on my system?

OS X :: Can't Change Icons With Snow Leopard

Dec 30, 2010

I know this has been addressed before, but the answers didn't work for me, so I posted a reply in that thread but got no responses, so I'm starting over.

With 10.4, all I had to do to change an icon for a folder or website was copy and paste. These were for icons I wanted in my dock to make them easy to find. Otherwise the default seems to be either that ubiquitous satellite dish or a boring documents icon.

But now, even though I can still do the get info/copy & paste routine, and the new icon shows up in the folder or the desktop, when I drag that icon to the dock it reverts to that crummy satellite dish. When I installed 10.6 on my new iMac, it kept some of my dock icons - the ones I had created - and dumped others. And kept me from creating new ones for the dock.
