I just got a macbook pro and I installed istat in the dashboard. I noticed that my computer is sending out a lot of data, for example istat says that it is sending out 35 kbs with a total of 258 for today. My question is what is my computer sending out and should I be worried?

I have recently discovered that a 'web' process has been sending data to an address which I have identified through VirusBarrier X6 to be "dsl-146-236-157 [URL]"  Over a 2 day period, 1,2gb was sent to this address. I have since blocked these addresses through the virus scanner, but now I need to delete this process/es from my system.  I do not know how I got this 'process' downloaded, as it is not identified as a virus, malware, trojan etc. My research tells me that this has been seen on windows and other macs, and I want to see how to remove it.Â

Hey I just picked up the new AEBS and so far I'm liking it. I have istat menus installed and have the network activity showing and since connecting to my AEBS, I am constantly sending 0.1k/sec and receiving 0.3k/sec. Anyone happen to know why? It's happening on my laptop and iMac so I'm sure it's supposed to happen but the OCD in me has to know why lol. Seems like the AEBS keeps sending out data to my modem too because the ethernet light on my modem never stops now.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an HP 8000 hooked up with a USB cable. I've tried disconnecting everything, restarting, trying different ports, nothing is working. I also tried resetting the print system in system prefs, reinstalling the drivers as well. When I try to print the printer just sits there. Its always stuck on sending print data. I don't use this printer often but it used to work and I would get this problem once or twice every few months. I solved it just by restarting but now it wont go away.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to print a legal size 4 page document. The first page printed then the printer stopped. I've tried repeatedly to print page 2, but it never gets beyond the 'sending print data'. I tried deleting the job but it didn't go away. I finally had to shut down my MacBook and the printer, then restart them and the job was gone. But I still get the 'sending print data' when I try to print page 2.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy macbook pro has been acting weird for a week or so. I'll be on the internet and then it will randomly shut down safari or google chrome and send an error report message. This also just started happening with my iPhoto and iTunes as well. Sometimes my computer will just shut off completely and restart with a message saying there was a problem and it had to shut down. It seems like there is some bug or maybe a third party add on I need to get off?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just recently purchased Logic Express 9. I am having difficulty getting the application to play my external MIDI gear.
I selected the appropriate track type (external MIDI), then selected from the library a MIDI device and channel. Logic sees the MIDI devices that I configured through Apple's "�Audio/MIDI interface� app".
This is my setup�
Logic Express is installed on an iMac with 4GB Memory running the latest version of MAC OS 10.x Snow Leopard.
I�m using a Motu Fastlane 2x2 MIDI Interface with Motu�s latest driver installed.
Connected to the Port A input of the Fastlane is a Yamaha P-80 that I am using as a MIDI controller and whose sounds I also want to use. Connected to the two output MIDI ports of the Fastlane are the Yamaha P-80 and a Roland JD990 MIDI synth module. In are correctly routed to outs and vice versa.
The Fastlane is recognized by the MAC computer. Also Logic Express sees the instruments I configured within the Apple�s �Audio/MIDI interface� app.
I am able to use the P-80 keyboard to record MIDI data to Logic Express for either an internal instrument track or an external MIDI track. The soft synths in the internal tracks play with no problem. For an External MIDI track, I see the data in the Piano roll view. When I play the track, no sound comes out but I see the output MIDI data indicated at the bottom of the arrangement window. Also my external MIDI gear�s audio outs are patched into an audio mixer connected to powered monitor speakers. So I would definitely hear the devices if they were receiving MIDI information. The MIDI indicator lights on the external devices are not flashing when Logic is playing back the data.
So obviously I have an output communication issue. Either something is not set properly within the Logic software or the �Audio/MIDI interface� app.
When I open up the �Audio/MIDI interface� app and click on test. I am able to here the tone when I press the keyboard which indicates the Motu Interface is receiving data from the keyboard. However, when I click on the port�s output arrow that is supposed to send a tone to the MIDI instruments, I hear nothing which is consistent with what is happening within Logic.
I know the Motu Fastlane works because I used it for a long time in a Windows based system. I have checked each wire and they check out as well. I have checked and double checked each connection and they are set properly. At this point, I am not sure what to do to correct this problem.
I'm about to order the 2.93ghz 24" imac with radeon 4850 and I was just wondering what the fastest/easiest way to transfer all the data i have from my current pc would be.

I have just purchased a new MacBook Pro. My understanding is that you cannot boot from Time Machine. If I were to have a major failure what would be the best way to transfer all my data on Time Machine to the computer? I have a bootable backup on an external HD which presents me with a way to boot up and to actually transfer everything since I last updated. This seems to defeat what Time Machine is for I would think. I know I can drag and drop all the data. What if I did not have a bootable backup what would I do?

My question is, is there a way to basically transfer all of my files/programs/etc. to the new Mac without having to reinstall everything? The iMac will become my primary computer, and the MBP will become kind of a sitting on the couch/travel computer. I have everything backed up on a Western Digital external hard drive using Time Machine. Over the past two years, I have accumulated a lot of files and extensions that I don't need or want. I am soon going to trade for either a 15-inch MBP or an iMac. Rather than restore everything on the new machine using my Time Machine back up, I just want to start with a brand new computer. How do I get single applications from my external hard drive to the new computer? For example, I want MS Office on the new one. How do I get it over without reinstalling with the disc?

Now my problem is that I have to sync my iPad to my new computer, without loosing any data that I have made I have spent over a year using my iPad and would not be a happy camper if I lost my app data and music. So how would you sync it to do that? I know you can do it I have done it before I just forgot how to do it though.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a friend who's oldish-Unibody MacBook Pro started giving him the folder with question mark-flashing symbol on boot-up. I guess it could be PRAM, but in any case, he wants to get his data off the hard drive. The computer wouldn't boot up from the install disk (holding 'c' on boot), all I have managed is to put it into Target Disk Mode, with my own MPB. The funny thing is, that it works, but all that mounts on my computer is the Install Disc (in his disk drive) and his hard drive shows up in my disk utility (see below), but it will not mount, and if I try to repair it, it gives me an error and DUPLICATES the original 'root' drive. Does this mean the hard drive itself is damaged and we need to go to a 'data specialist' to get everything off or is there anything else I could try?
