It's been awhile, I used Leopard back when it first came out and I remember the only way back then was to change the .PNG files... but I don't remember where the location is and I don't have those files anymore. I'm not trying to make it 2D, I'd like to retain the 3D look but with black glass. What's the best solution? Forgive me too, I tried searching but the keyword "dock" is in about 30 million threads.
View 2 RepliesMy dock keeps returning to previous setting. It simply throws out added Applications and changing the order back to how they were before. I deleted the dock.list thing in preferences which made it worse. Now i only have the original Apps in my dock.

I accidentally used an old Leopard Dock application to attempt to change my Dock skin, and it screwed everything up. I borrowed another Mac and copied the Dock app from Core Services and replaced mine, but there's a white line across the bottom of the dock still. [URL]. I know I shouldn't have been messing with it in the first place, I knew things had changed between Leopard and Snow Leopard, but I did anyway, and now I don't know what to do.

I don't know if apple may be tweaking the look of forthcoming Leopard point releases, but this pic on the Apple Mac page has me wondering. It is definitely NOT the stock dock color and even contrasts with another pic on the same page.
View 9 Replies View RelatedGiven the Air's current mothball status, I'd buy an antiglare 13" MBP in a heartbeat. But black slab of highly reflective glass = no sale. They do it on the leviathan 17", and now on the top spec 15" (or lower spec if you BTO) albeit at a cost of 120 notes. But no 13". Can anyone provide even a semi-rational (i.e. practical) explanation as to why not, or is just the worst side of Apple we're seeing here?
View 5 Replies View Relatedthere is a small chip behind the glass of my 27" imac. It's about the size of a small crumb or the eye of a small needle. It's hard to see, but it's definitely there. Today is my last day to get the imac replaced or repaired. I have a feeling if I bring it in that they will see there's no reason to swap out the entire imac, and if there is I would have to wait awhile because it's a custom high end one so they don't have the specsI'm worried if they swap the glass that it's just some 19 year old kid that does it and he won't be careful with the screen and will get dust, finger prints, etc. on the glass making it worse.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI ordered a 2.93 i7 / 8Gb Ram / SSD + 2TB from the Apple Singapore online store and received it yesterday. Shipping info showed that it originated from Shanghai China.
As soon as I opened the box and took the imac out, this is what I found: on the lower left corner of the black glass (not on the screen but on the bezel that surrounds the screen) , was a small silver bubble like crack inside the glass. At first I thought it was a stain and tried to rub it off but quickly realized that it was inside the glass.
On further inspection, I found that the entire black glass at the bottom corner was protruding slightly out while on the right side the glass was slightly protruding in.
Obviously a manufacturing defect.
I was also very surprised to see the general condition of the unit that was supposed to be brand new and pristine - it looked like there were smudges on the glass in various places, dust on the outside and tiny black spots on the aluminum. Most disturbing was that the thin plastic that is stuck on and covers the pedestal for shipping was partially unstuck - like it had been peeled of earlier and then stuck back on.
It was really weird - this was supposed to be brand new but it seemed almost like it was a refurbished machine. I was wondering if it was caused by the factory since it is BTO - do they open up a new box and add in the SSD RAM etc then pack it back up - maybe not being careful when they do it and it causes the smudges and possible other damages?
I could not deal with the damaged glass as you could plainly see it on the black bezel, so I called and Apple said they would replace it. The box was picked up the same day and I am now waiting to get the email acknowledging that a new unit is being sent.
Kudos to Apple to send a replacement without fuss but the general condition of the supposedly new unit was really suspicious.
Has anyone else seen these issues with new 27 imacs? I am also wondering if folks are seeing these issues from just the Shanghai factory or from all factories?
Hope my new unit arrives soon without any new problems. Just in case you are wondering, I did not even turn it on - as soon as I saw that defect on the glass, I had to return it.
So, I first started noticing this problem a couple of days ago.
1. My dock doesn't work right. I have it set to auto hide/show. It worked fine up until now. Now for it to show, I have to click where it normally would appear, then I have to click in another window to hide it.
2. My cursor in Firefox, and other applications, doesn't change when hovering over links. It gets damn irritating now, as I'm used to links changing the cursor.
Any ideas what may be causing these problems? I'm running 10.5.5 with all latest software patches on an early '08 Macbook.
Ok, sorry all if this has been asked. I did a search and didn't find an answer that made sense to me.
So basically, I saw the attached image in the January desktop forum, and would love to have the same dock indicator lights. I have the link to download the file(s) for the indicator lights, but after downloading I have no idea how to install them.
My Dock changes size on it's own.
Not a big change, just a little twitch, normally shortly after restart/login.

View 3 Replies View RelatedTrying to change some icons in Leopard. Doing it the manual way, not with candybar. I went into the dock package contents and change the finder icon and trash empty and trash full. I deleted the cache, killed the dock, even rebooted yet it always defaults back to the original leopard icons. If I go back in to the package contents, the new icons I want to use are in there. Having the same issue with all the icons that need to be changed via package contents. System Preferences, VMWare Fusion, and the ones above.

Very annoying. Why can't I just use Apple's Preview as my pdf utility? When I save pdf files they now save into adobe 9 format, can I convert those to Apple's Preview format?

View 8 Replies View RelatedOn my Macbook, running Leopard, I recently changed all my icons. (applications, folders, default files, etc.) I changed the Finder and Trash icons via System/Library/CoreServices. But the Dock won't recognize that the Finder icon has changed-- it's still showing me the old icon. That's Problem 1.
Then I created a new user account, and discovered that on that account the Dock shows the correct Finder image. But Problem 2: the new account doesn't recognize my default file icons. It flashes them for a second when I save the file, and then reverts back to the regular white default image. (Even though all the .icns files are correct in the application's Resources folder.) I really don't want to download Candybar or anything, since I know it can be done without that.
I came back from work to wake up my iMac. It made the noise but the screen stayed black. I tried restarting by holding the power button- I can hear it start and the chime but still have a black screen. I tried resetting the pram, and unplugging the cord but I still get a black screen. I can hear the chime though; I'm not sure if that means anything. I just had the hard drive replaced in February so I hope it's not that. just wanted to clarify that when I restart, I get the chime but the screen stays black- I don't get to the grey screen. So I'm assuming right now that my display may be shot?

I saw the black folder that it comes with in the dock of a computer in my local Apple store and thought it looked really good. But now I'm trying to do this myself and when I drag the folder to the dock, it changes it to some other blue folder with an icon sticking out of it. It'll also only let me drag it to the side of the dock with the trash can.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI installed the updates yesterday and restarted. Upon restart, the dock was gone. I went into the preferences, and made sure everything was correct with the settings. Also, the background image is going bezerk, changing every 3-4 seconds, even thought it's not set to do so. Expose is not working, the "Application Switcher" (cmd + tab, sorry, don't know proper name) is not working, and there is a strange black background in nearly every window.

I've repaired permissions and restarted multiple times. i've never had this happen before...
I installed iwork 08 and everytime i type the letters come in white. I tried changing the color font and everytime i try putting black it always comes up white but when i do it dark blue for example it shows dark blue, it shows every color except for black.

View 13 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure why, but there seems to be a void of information regarding changing the menu bar color in Leopard. I've searched here, but seem to find only a single recommendation: MenuShade (which I understand is buggy with Leopard). Most of the other discussion involves changing the transparency of the menu bar, or changing the color of icons in the menu bar.
Two questions:
1) Is there some reason this isn't more commonly discussed? I would think this would be a very common request.
2) How can one change the color of the menu bar?
Been a while since I've been here. I searched and found basically nothing, which really surprised me because I remember seeing this topic discussed way back sometime. But anyways, how do I change my login password on Leopard? I remember that's not the easiest thing to do, apparently.
