Been a while since I've been here. I searched and found basically nothing, which really surprised me because I remember seeing this topic discussed way back sometime. But anyways, how do I change my login password on Leopard? I remember that's not the easiest thing to do, apparently.

I am able to login to everything and set my username as the administrator, but I can not set a password for it, if i try to input a password or change the password I get an error message saying I have input an incorrect password. When I purchased the computer everything was blank except for the user name was set as mac user, as I said I was able to change the username but not the password.

Everything else is fine with the new password; icloud.com, itunes, ipad, iphone, MacBook Air. Have tried creating a new user account but get the same messages which vary from "unrecognized user or password" to "problem communicating with icloud, try again later."

Lately I've been noticing that when logging into our SnowLeopard miniserve after "fat-fingering" the password once, I am prompted to reset the Master Password. When doing this you are also informed that the keychain will be updated. Is there a system level setting that is causing this? It doesn't seem like you should have to reset the Master Password/keychain after one failed attempt to log into the system...?

This just started happening. Startup my Quad Core 2.66, with 10.6.8 (all SW updates), login, and screen zooms to maximum zoom with giant cursor in the middle. The only easy way get it back down to normal res is to do command+esc to get to Front Row, and then hit esc.

So I just installed Tech Tool Deluxe onto my macbook and then shut it down later. I went back to use it again and when i turned it on a login screen appeared asking me to put in my password. I did that and the screen turned blue (looking like it was loading) and then went back to the login screen. Every time i put in my password it just takes me back to the login screen. I have had my mac for a while and i dont want my hardrive to get wiped out so what do i do? Thank you for looking

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy MB Pro has 1 user login, it's never been changed, re-created, etc.I can login to the laptop no problem, I can goto the User control panel and change the PW and it shows the single user as the admin.However I can't install software. It comes up and asks me for the password which is then rejected.Beyond reloading the OS not sure what options are. Did a permissions repair but no other luck.

Well I bought my macbook in Taiwan. All my applications are in English but the only problem is that my login window is in Chinese. Is there any way i can change it to English.
I've tried to go in System pref- International and change the language order but it still doesn't work.
My iMac has suddenly started changing the photos shown at the User Login window. eg: the photo set of user no.2 is replaced by user no.1. Can anyone advise how to delete all the photos stored under 'recent photos used' and start again?

I had two hard drives, "Macintosh SSD" (primary) and "Macintosh HD"(secondary). I put my home directory into "Macintosh HD", and it works fine. However, last night i mistakenly rename the "Macintosh HD" to "MacintoshHD" through the finder's "get info". Now I cannot log in!I believe it's the problem of the changed name of mount point.
My previous home located at /Volumes/Macintosh HD/Users/myname Now, it locates at /Volumes/MacintoshHD/User/myname, thus it refuses to login. I don't know how to change it back through single user mode...

I'm running the latest version of Leopard, and I would like to change the default login shell for the "root" user, but the command which works under Unix and Linux doesn't seem to work here. As root, I have done a vipw to change the shell to /bin/zsh (my preference) on the root line. This change persists in /etc/passwd, and it also gets properly propagated to /etc/master.passwd.
However, every time do an su or a sudo -s, I still get sent into the old /bin/sh shell. I have completely restarted the system, and this still occurs (the /bin/zsh entry is still there for root in /etc/passwd and /etc/master.passwd after reboot). /bin/zsh properly appears in /etc/shells, so I know that this is not the problem.
The password i use to get into the computer. is that the admin password? i forgot weather it was or not.what would be a program that i could open on my computer where it might prompt me for my admin password? just to check.

So I missed type their username). I changed the username of the account from the control panel. I now want to change the user directory name. Can I just change it like any other directory? And finally, when u want to install something the security warning that comes up and asks for your password, also has the name miss typed. So how do I also change that?

My friend has forgot her password and cannot login. She is running os 10.4 on iBook G4 800mhz. I told her to insert the original OS CD, restart while holding down the C key and then click on options - change password when it has booted into the original CD. However, it just boots straight to the login screen.
