MacBook Pro :: What To Look For When Buying AppleCare Online?
Jul 16, 2009
I've never purchased AppleCare before, but I notice its alot cheaper from places like ebay and such. My only problem is, how do I know if they're legit? How is the registering process for AppleCare work? Is there anything special I should look for when searching places like ebay? EDIT: Sorry, I'm purchasing it for my MBP, thats why I posted here, sorry if its in the wrong forum.
If I buy a MBP online (say Macmall) and it shows up with a problem (dead pixel, etc.) can I take it to an Apple store for repair/replacement? Or do I have to return it to where I bought it?
I'm new to mac and I don't really know much about computers. I was buying some stuff online and when I click view my cart I get an error message saying:
Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in C:Documents and SettingsAdministratorMy DocumentsSitesstore.donatelife.netxshoplibrariesFileMakerImplementationFileMakerImpl.php on line 348.
I have an iMac, Mac OS X version 10.6.2. It was the online store for Donate Life America http://store.donatelife.net/ and I was using safari. I also tried Firefox and got the same message.
well my question speaks for me, im buying the product from colombia with a credit card and i want to know if im going to get charged/need to pay for any kind of tax since im buying it from other country and is not going to be used on USA.
I am going to buy a second hand MacBook pro and I need to know how to check it and what I should actually check. This is my first time with a Mac and I have no idea how to check it and what are the system information software which allows me to check the specs and probable problems in the system.
I'm assuming that a MBP purchased with 4Gb will have 2x2. If I wanted 8Gb, I assume the only option would be to buy 8Gb (4x4) and replace the 2x2. Is there a market for the 2x2 I would be removing from the MBP? What do most people do with this RAM that they replace?
I've decided to go with an SSD refurb and am torn between the 1.6 and 1.8 SSD model. The 1.8 is an extra $100, but it's $100 which may be over my budget and I'm not sure if I'll really notice a difference. The reason I want the 1.8 is because I'm coming from a 2.0 MB and 1.8 doesn't seem as bad as downgrading to a 1.6.
I want to buy an apple wireless keyboard but i want it in SPANISH with the letter " ñ" and when i enter in the apple store online, i see that you can select your language and if i set russian or japanesse, the keyboard in the display turns into that language, but when i pick SPANISH the image displaying is exactly the same as the English one, without the letter " ñ" and this is a must have letter of our alphabet so i want to know if i order that keyboard will come with that letter and thats just an error of the apple store or will it came the same as the English one?
I just bought a second hand MacBook 2010 for my girlfriend. It came with a clean Lion installed. What is making me paranoid is that I use tracking software Prey on my own MBP and now how can I be sure that the new one hasn't got tracking software installed for opposite reason (to steal it and sell again)?I know it might sound stupid, but I like to be prepared for the worst. So should I format the drive and install Lion again? What would you do?
I want to buy a cord that will hook up from my Laptop (Macbook Pro) to my TV. I've already checked and my TV does have a HDMI port.Im just not sure where I can buy a HDMI cable or which one.
I don't have the disk that came with my laptop. If I can find an ISO image of 10.6.3 can I use that to reinstall the OS or it has to be the disk that came with it? I plan to go to genius bar and see maybe they can just install the OS that came with the laptop and I can buy a Lion upgrade from App Store.
Info: MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2010), Mac OS X (10.7.4)
i am thinking about buying the new macbook pro. I currently have the older version approx 2 years old.I have purchased aperture, photoshop and ilfe. would all of these programs be put onto the new laptop without having to re-purchase?
i am having a hard time trying to buy apps from uk app store with my hk credit card?i tried to sign up another apple account which i put as a hk apple ID but the same issue still came up?
apple replaced my SR mbp with a new unibody model after a series of breaks (which was awesome). Anyway, they told us to buy applecare, and since we were getting a brand new laptop we kind of had to say yes, so we bought it. Then when I got home and actually tried to apply it, it said it already had applecare. So I looked up the serial and it's covered until sep 2012, 3 years. So did I just get free applecare or did it just automatically apply because they were on the same receipt?
I'm buying iMac, I should get it about 4/10/10, I got it with apple care. My question is :- in three years time, can I buy it again and still be covered?
I have an old AppleCare Protection Plan for a Macbook Pro/Powerbook (MA515LL/A) that I did not use within one year of purchasing my old computer. Because of this (and my inability to find my proof of purchase), it was never registered. If I got a new Macbook Pro, would I be able to use this old AppleCare Protection Plan on it?
I want to purchase Applecare through Amazon because it is so much cheaper than the Apple Store. However, Amazon doesn't have any listings for Applecare specifically for the Air.
there the webpage that sais this : 1. Tell us about your AppleCare agreement. Select your location
Select Your Agreement
2. Review the Terms and Conditions.
3. Provide your address information.well after i select the Country, the next tab shows (which is the SELECT YOUR AGREEMENT) well that tab doesnt have anything, it just shows this >

this will be my first mac - and i need some advice on applecare
my friend has kindly bought a MBA from hong kong on my behalf and i'll get it later this week (can't wait!). what i need to decide is if i should purchase some sort of 'insurance cover' for this MBA.
applecare is the obvious choice. however, 199 for the 2 additional years seem quite pricey. although i have links with my university, i believe i won't be able to get the educational price (47) given the MBA was purchased from the HK online store.
do you think the 199 applecare will be important or are there 3rd party insurance covers out there i can consider?
I have had multiple Apple laptops in the past and never gotten (nor seen the need for) AppleCare. Both Pismo, CS1400 and MBP first gen. My experience is that any weak point will show up during the first year and I have sent in at least one to Apple and they have fixed it under original warranty during first year, no problem. Since battery seems to be the weak link I was planning on getting AppleCare for my new MBA. However if that is not the covered by AppleCare then I am looking for some pointers/reason why I should even consider AppleCare for my MBA.
If I don't buy it with a MBP, what type of warranty do I get with the MBP? Can I take it to an Apple Store, and does Apple allow me to mail it to them for free? If I do get AppleCare, what do I get? Free Replacements?
I am looking for a PDF of the Applecare service manual for the 15" mid-2009 Macbook Pro (specifically the 2.66ghz version).tell me where I can find one?
Or better yet, does anyone have a copy of the PDF that they could send to me?
I bought two macbooks back in 2007 (research funding). One went to a colleague, one to me. Beginning to regret which one I chose! It's been a great machine, but i've had nothing but issues with it:1) Bluetooth issues (dropped connections, bluetooth doesn't exist), wake from sleep problems, macbook wouldn't sleep when closed and turned into a furnace. Solution: Logicboard replaced under applecare, problem fixed. For about a month.Decided not to use the brand new bluetooth mouse/keyboard I bought for another 4-5 months due to bluetooth issues
I bought my Macbook Mid-2007, so it's the one with the Intel GMA945. Since purchase this Macbook has been nothing but trouble, in both hardware and software departments (at one point clicking the bluetooth icon would cause a kernel panic...). Luckily I bought Applecare. The full list of problems that were serviced by my Apple Service Center are as below.
- Cracking all along the oustide of the keyboard, but that's common. - On my second hard drive, the first died within a few months of purchase. - Second Superdrive, the first motor died and wouldn't eject discs, nor would it burn dual layer dvd's. - Motherboard died after a year of use, only time the motherboard was replaced just because of a motherboard problem. - Motherboard replaced again after the sound card crapped out. - Motherboard replaced AGAIN after ethernet jack failed. - Going on my third fan now, hopefully the fan I ordered will arrive tomorrow, the thing sounds like it's tearing apart my poor Macbook. I listen to metal music, and even on max volume the fan is clearly audible. Skype conversations for the other person using the Mac inbuilt microphone are basically unbearable.
With this plethora of problems, would this warrant a replacement by Apple before my Applecare runs out this August? The only problem is I live in China, so I only get 'licensed Apple Service Centers', not an official one. I do travel back to the States often, BUT I'm not sure how well documented these problems were by the Chinese centers.
