MacBook Air :: Why Applecare If They Don't Cover Battery

Apr 5, 2009

I have had multiple Apple laptops in the past and never gotten (nor seen the need for) AppleCare. Both Pismo, CS1400 and MBP first gen. My experience is that any weak point will show up during the first year and I have sent in at least one to Apple and they have fixed it under original warranty during first year, no problem.
Since battery seems to be the weak link I was planning on getting AppleCare for my new MBA. However if that is not the covered by AppleCare then I am looking for some pointers/reason why I should even consider AppleCare for my MBA.

Sep 29, 2010

I have a base level 1st Gen Unibody 15" Macbook Pro. It has the removable battery and I bought it refurbished online because it was way cheaper. I do have Applecare. A few weeks ago it began randomly turning off. Like I will be doing stuff, have plenty of battery left according to both the software meter and the green lights on the side, then it will click, the screen will turn black and I won't be able to turn it back on.

Does Applecare cover the replacement of the backlight bulb and inverter board? Looking at a PowerBook that has Applecare - The screen in the listing picture is not too bright. The seller has stated that all is well with the screen, but you never know. I am prepared to go for it if the Applecare covers the screen lighting. MacBook Pro :: Unable To Close Battery Cover Latch / Opened The Battery Cover?

Dec 21, 2008

picked up a unibody last Saturday night, and opened the battery cover tonight. The latch was opened with little resistance, but now won't close. The latch edge sits about 1/8" up, and I can't find anything which would seem to prevent it from closing.

Anyone else had a troublesome battery latch, and how did you resolve it?

MacBook Pro :: Having Trouble With Accidental Trackpad Input

Nov 13, 2009

I have been having trouble with accidental trackpad input on my Macbook Pro mid-2009, and I can't find any way to deal with it in the trackpad preference pane. I seem to remember that there was a way to turn on "ignore accidental input" but I can't find it now. Anyone seen that in Snow Leopard 10.6.2?

Mac Mini :: Won't Boot After Accidental Loss Of Power During Firmware Upgrade

Feb 19, 2012

i accidentally hit the power switch on the wall during an upgrade (might even have been a firmware upgrade, I didn't really look at what was going on).  Anyway, now it hangs on the silver Apple logo screen with a spinny wheel on reboot.  It's only 3 months old, it's the $599 model.

What to do?  I see that you can download firmware restoration disks but they appear to be limited to earlier versions of the Mac mini.

Info:
Mac mini, Mac OS X (10.7), I think the OS is OSX 10.7...

MacBook Pro :: Mid 2010 Had Accidental Liquid Spillage But Still Turns On But The Screen Is Black?

May 26, 2012

It was just an accidental liquid spill, but however my macbook pro has been acting up before all this mishap with the graphics. I thought is was just nothing so I didn't care to bring it to an apple store but when I had to bring it and check it out using the Nvidia video test it presumed a failed video card. The genuius said it will take 2 weeks to be fix until several days later I recieved a call saying it can not be fix due to a foreseen amount of liquid damage. I've spilt other liquid items but wiped it off the keyboard quickly and it still worked. I'm using my MBP right now with an external monitor, it still works fine but with the issue of the screen being pitch black.

MacBook Pro :: Already Has Applecare?

Sep 30, 2009

apple replaced my SR mbp with a new unibody model after a series of breaks (which was awesome). Anyway, they told us to buy applecare, and since we were getting a brand new laptop we kind of had to say yes, so we bought it. Then when I got home and actually tried to apply it, it said it already had applecare. So I looked up the serial and it's covered until sep 2012, 3 years. So did I just get free applecare or did it just automatically apply because they were on the same receipt?

MacBook Pro :: Way To Figure Out Water Damage?

Dec 11, 2010

I have a Macbook that I was carrying in my backpack in one of those neoprene cases along with my water bottle (silly, I know...but it hasn't ever spilled prior to now!). I walked around for about 5-10 minutes at which point I noticed the bottom of my backpack was wet. I immediately opened it up and found that there was water on the bottom 2 inches of my case. I pulled my computer out and there was sort of a sheen of water on the front and back 2 inches on the side with all the ports. I then wiped it off. The screen came on when I opened it (it had not been off) but I turned it off and now I have it leaning so that if there is any water in the ports it will drain out.

PowerPC :: Liquid Damage G4 Ibook?

Nov 5, 2008

I shut it down, popped out the keyboard and sopped up what I could find. When I started it up again, it started fine but in safe boot mode.

Keyboard is fried, obviously (which is how I got the machine in the first place, from someone who did the exact same thing and bought a new one rather than replace the keyboard), and I'm getting no airport detected and no sound output device detected.

My question is, does this mean the airport and soundcard are fried, or is there something else going on? I need help figuring out what parts to replace other than the keyboard.

Mac Pro :: Flooded Heat Sink Cause Damage?

Jan 20, 2009

At my university there was a flood during christmas break while I was away, and my office had about 8 inches of water in it. When I got back, I saw the damages and was quite sad to see my mac pro filled up with dirt and debris.

So I cleaned it out and tried to boot it up and amazingly it works almost perfectly...in fact I am typing this on that mac pro. The only damage is that the fans now run at 2500rpms all the time.

So Here are my temps from iStat. It seems like maybe the sensor for CPU B and the north bridge are messed up. Anyone have any experience with fixing/replacing those parts? I am wondering if my diagnosis is correct and what is the best way to fix this machine.

OS X :: Does Power Loss Damage Batteryless MBP ?

Feb 18, 2009

I run MBP without battery 99% of the time to safe its 300 or so cycles and I occasionally trip the mac safe adapter (which i find gimmicky and annoying) by maneuvering MBP around when sitting down & the cable gets snagged momentarily on corner of coffee table etc and out goes the power !!

Is this causing any damage ?!? I havent noticed any ill effects.

I also understand from reading other threads how the processor speed reduces without battery but thats ok considering most of my use is limited to web browsing..
