I have tried numerous times to restart the PC with the Leopard disc in my DVD drive and it comes up, after I press C upon reboot, but no matter what I try I cannot get the erase and install option to ever show up.

I'm just wondering if this solves the performance degradation issue of SSD's over time. Has anyone tried it and benchmarked the results before/after?
In theory it seems like it would work (albeit at the penalty of losing all data on the SSD).
Yesterday, I had to re-format my external hard drive so that it could be "recordable" within Pro Tools, which wasn't a major issue, I just had to move everything from my Lacie drive to another drive, do the format, and then throw it all back on. It took a little while but this also included moving my nearly 60gb itunes library. Now that it is on the newly formatted hard drive, itunes doesn't seem to be able to find the majority of the songs any more. I've tried changing the music folder and a few other things, and there is no way I'm going through and doing the "cant find music - click here to find it" palava. Is anyone aware of a way that you can "mass find" all of the music in any way other than starting the library again and adding all the music (I don't really want to lose all of my play counts and ratings if possible!)
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a MacBook Pro which was originally supplied with OS X10.4.9. I have upgraded using disks purchased from the Apple store to 10.5 and subsequently 10.6. More recently I upgraded to 10.7 using the download from the online App Store. I would like to perform an Erase and Install to get rid of the 'dross' on my hard disk and may do this as part of the 10.8 upgrade although have yet decide whether to wait for this or not.
when doing the erase and install, do I have to start from scratch by loading the original 10.4.9 OS X version or can I start at 10.7. If the latter how would I do this given that I don't have a disk as it was downloaded from the App Store?

2. Insert the Mac OS X Install DVD into the optical drive.
3. Restart your computer.
4. Hold down the Option key while the computer starts up.

7. When the license agreement appears, click Agree.

Is this feature missing in Leopard? I have icons all over the place. There's a new option to "clean up" but the auto arrange options are gone or at least I can't find them.
View 16 Replies View RelatedI installed windows xp on bootcamp and it completely screwed up my os x partition. Everything's still there, but when I boot up it's an endless loop of blue screens ... So I'm just going to reinstall.
I had to boot from, the disk.. And there aren't any options to archive documents, like there was when I upgraded my pc to windows 7 I did a clean install but there was a folder called windows.old.
Some other threads said that it does automatically and other says it doesn't.
I cant find the authorize computer option under itunes store.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy iMac won't boot unless I boot it into safe boot. It won't even boot from the Leopard disc so that I can repair the disk and the permissions. Every time it starts up the screen would dim and then I get the message that I need to hold down the power button and restart the computer, which I believe is a kernel panic. I get this same message when I try to boot from the Leopard disc. I've tried repairing disk permissions while in safe boot and it fixed the permissions but still no luck when I tried a normal boot. I've tried replacing the RAM hoping it was faulty RAM as well as changing the slot the RAM was in and that didn't work either. How come it will boot in safe mode but not normally? I also ran Apple Hardware Test and it said everything appeared to be ok.
The iMac is a 17" Intel Core Duo, 1.83 Ghz with 1GB of RAM.
I understand that in order to view your clipboard (iMac) that you click "Edit" on the Finder, and "show clipboard". I created a public link (Alias) and it has gone into my clipboard but, when I click on it, to copy and then paste into, for example, an email, I don't have an option to do that. Therefore, I have to write the link down and then re-type it into the email.

I was very excited like everyone to install new Safari 4 and the excitement sustained for a while. Ubiquitously, it is visually delightful meeting Apple Standards. However, I lost lot of plugins that I had for earlier Safari version. Plugins like: DivX player, Real player are gone after I installed the new version. It is not recognizing by itself if there are missing plugins and neither I see an option where I can install by myself.

View 24 Replies View RelatedI've used the bootcamp assistant to create a 200 GB partition for Windows. I installled windows 7 x64 on this partition, everything is going well so far. I'm able to press the option key after installation and run windows and perform some updates (note, I couldn't install the required software IN windows from the snow leopard disk, let's hope this is not the source of my problem).
Everything went well so I booted back to OSX and I noticed that I needed some more partitions, so I've split my Macintosh HD further into a Media and a School partition. I didn't touch the windows partition though.
After experiencing (before) with hackintosh computers I know that i have to rewrite the boot configuration of the harddrive. Because now I'm not seeing the Windows HD anymore while holding the option key at startup and therefore unable to boot into Windows anymore. Even parallels can't discover the Windows partition.
I've tried repairing permissions, and nothing. I've tried to use the repair option on the Windows 7 disk which states it can't be done.
What can I do? Do I have to repartition it again in an different order (bootcamp states that it can only create a Windows partition if there's only 1 partition in the harddrive, so it's logical to repartition the drive after bootcamp created the Windows HD or even after the installation of Windows itself). Perhaps I need to rewrite the boot config of the mac, which I don't have a clue about.
Being 64 bit windows is not an issue, because it worked at first (before repartitioning)
After clicking System Preference how do I get SCAN option to appear so documents can be scanned? Currently only the Print option is visible and having no problems with printing. Printer is a HP Laser Jet 300.

So I think I know how to do everything.However, from my reading I gather that Zero Erase is a single pass random erase whereas 7 Pass is secure erase (and there is a 3 Pass secure erase option nowadays)?That got me wondering - does 7 Pass secure erase make 7 x single passes over the entire disk?If it does, then when the blue bar has extended a bit over a third of the way across the progress monitor (that little bar that indicates time left) it should have made 3 passes, which would be equivalent to 3 pass secure erase?Is that an option?Is it possible to stop part way through an erase (which is part of E & I)? My original disks 1 and 2 have OS X 10.4, with OS X 10.5 included as complimentary 3rd disk (because OS X 10.5 was just released at that time).I gather I need to erase with disk 1, then install disks 1 + 2, then install OS X 10.5.

I ran my usual check on the mac drive via "Verify Disk" option. It came up with "needs repair"...etc., and told me to repair it. I did a command r during boot so I could do a repair, and the software told me "your mac drive seems to be ok"??? Some kind of glitch, or need I worry about it at all?

I already configured Icloud and I can find on maps devices sucha as Ipads, Iphones and Mac´s, but something is happened with my own MacBook Pro, I cant locate it on the Maps, I only see the image of the MacBook Pro and the instruction for locked it or send a message.
