I'm trying to make Mail start at Login but be hidden. But even when I go into System Preferences > Accounts > Login Items, and check the box for "Hide" by Mail, it still opens with the window when I log in. Is there any way to actually make it be hidden upon login?

i have searched system preferences (security & privacy > firewall) for this setting, but no luck.
i want to make my mac hidden (or a least appear as an unidentified hidden device, with only MAC & IP addresses showing (when i scan my network for the devices connected)) on a LAN.
I like to keep my dock automatically hidden, but I want it to appear instantly when I hover the mouse over the bottom of the screen.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded to Mavericks. I have Startup Items set to launch Activity Monitor and have the Hide checkbox checked, but the window keeps appear at login.
All of the other apps set in a similar manner work just fine (i.e., they start and their windows say hidden) ... Why Hide does not mean "Hide" for this one app?

My computer is a MacBook Pro running Mac OS X Version 10.7.3, 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7 with 4GB memory. Start-up has become somewhat erratic. Consistently, if I close the lid on the computer it won't restart when I reopen it. I'll have to hold the power button down for about 15 seconds, let up and then press it again. Sometimes restarting after a shutdown the computer will go through the long start-up I associate with a crash shutdown. Sometimes login start-up items don't start up. Sometimes I have to click somewhere on the screen to make the menu bar at the top of the screen visible. Overall, unexpected things keep happening. Although I don't think it probably relates, Chrome is my primary browser.

Have made sure it's deleted from Contacts and made sure it's deleted from "Previous Recipients" list in Mail. But it still keeps reappearing ... obviously a secret cache file hidden somewhere?

There was problem with his drive, it was not partitioned properly. The HD was not showing up in the finder (on desktop or in devices list). I made a partition with a new name and archived his drive.
Upon installing 10.5 I can't login at all.. it only shows 'other' in the users list. Can't login as admin. Can't do anything.
Disk utility (when booted from system disk) shows the drive is fine.
I cant figure out how to make my network require a password when u log in. For example i have a i-phone i would like it when i log in to my mac, that it asks for a password. so how do i do that?

How do I stop intrusive apps from running at startup/login? I checked both libraries > StartupItems and System > StartupItems.
Long version + rambling:
So there is this intrusive app that I installed, and it keeps adding a folder in my Documents folder. Everytime I delete it, it comes back on startup.
I thought it would be much easier to find the file responsible for starting this app on startup, but I was disappointed. But I'm betting it's not as difficult as searching the Windows registry.
Anyway, it's not among the 'login' items, and I searched the main Library, and my User Library, and even the System's 'startup' folders, and found nothing. So what's the deal?
Before you make any accusations, the app I'm using is Parallels, and yeah, there's probably some preference I could change to stop it from doing that, but I would like to do this manually, and learn more about how OS X works. I want to stop the app from running without my permission when I log in. (I'm stubborn, and want to show this app who's boss around here!)
I'm thankful that in OS X, apps are much less intrusive than Windows ones, and they're only intrusive when I give them my password, from my experience at least. Am I right? But goodness I hate how intrusiveness followed me here from Windows. It would have been a deal breaker, had I known how many files (hidden or otherwise) it was going to scatter across my tidy Mac.

Since installing Yosemite 10.10.1, every time I turn on my MacBook Pro I have to Select User and then login with my password. I don't want this, since I'm the only user and it wastes time. This didn't used to happen before installing Yosemite. I can't find the button in Security and Privacy that turns this off!

Every time I power up my Mac Pro, I get the attached message upon start-up.
If I click on 'Relaunch' it does nothing.
I have reported it, but nothing has changed.
Clicking on 'ignore' makes it go away, but it reappears every time I power up my CPU.
AppleCare didn't even know what it meant either!
Any suggestions? What is "LOGINserver" anyway?
I created a new user the previous evening and shut the computer down as normal, now when i start up I get nothing but a blue screen no login in screen nothing. I tried going into the command as root, have done fix disk errors no problems there, then tried lunchctl load/Users/System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.... plist cant rember the bit in between. I did this from the apple website, but all i get is no file to load, so anyway continued to do ls users/ get the names and tried reseting the password for the login's and i get a odd error. I have no idea where to go from here, as i cant find the original discs, can i use mybrothers os x 10.5 discs to re-install and save the files i want to keep and do a clean install?

However, he has forgotten the login password at start-up which was set-up at the Apple Store. View 3 Replies View RelatedA couple of nights ago I set my iMac G3 (Blueberry) to stop automatic login at start up and put it to sleep. I did this because I didn't want my kids on the web in the middle of the night while I was sleeping. When morning comes, the computer is off. I try to start it but it won't turn over. When I push the on button, the button flashes on for a split second and I hear the crackle of static as if the computer is starting, but nothing happens after that. I tried plugging and unplugging the computer, but nothing helps.
It's like a car that won't turn over.

At the moment it automatically boots into machintosh unless I hold down the "option" key and select a diffrent volume from the boot menu. What I would like to do is instead of booting straight into mac os x id like it to open the boot menu first so I can select the Volume and OS.

It will pop up and say mail quit unexpectedly will show that report and reopen box. hen mail is open and the circle is spinning, you can send mail and it works fine. View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm finding it slightly annoying that in Safari 5.0, whenever I hit CMD+T to open a new tab, my cursor automatically starts in the google search box on the web page, and not in the address bar. Not only that, but I can't simply hit SHIFT-TAB to go backwards to the address bar.
I'm a designer, so I'm constantly using shortcuts, not only in my design programs, but also in Safari, iTunes, etc. It would be nice to see a fix for this, so I can keep my hands on the keyboard, and off of my mouse.
I don't like that Safari starts the last page that I was on everytime I run the application. How can I change this so that my default homepage is opened everytime instead?
