I'm trying to make Mail start at Login but be hidden. But even when I go into System Preferences > Accounts > Login Items, and check the box for "Hide" by Mail, it still opens with the window when I log in. Is there any way to actually make it be hidden upon login?

The first time I use my 80 GB Macbook Air I found only 55 GB available! I suppose that the system would need a maximum of 5 GB. Where did the rest of the memory go?

My MacBook Air shows that I am using about 44gb. However, when I calculate each folder, they total only 30gb. I am assuming that the difference is made up of hidden/deleted files. How do I find and delete unnecessary hidden files.

Wut up Mac Peeps, pretty advanced Mac user and I just can't figure out how to delete the hidden partitions that Windows 7 creates. I've installed Windows 7 twice on this HDD with Leopard v.10.5.8 on it and now I have 2 small partitions at 200MB each. This means 4 partitions (1 for Leopard, 1 for Windows 7, and 2 hidden partitions). They don't show up in Disk Utility and I tried removing the entire BootCamp partition, then re-installing Leopard just so that I could configure the HDD to "One Single Partition" with Disk Utility on the Leopard Disc while re-installing and THAT didn't work for the hidden partitions either...couldn't believe it...
I'm hoping I don't have to use a Windows DOS Boot Disc to format or something...not sure if they work on MBPs but I would try...I could also use Seagate HDD Tools but I'm trying to keep this simple.

when I connect to my other computers on my home network I see a folder called GoogleVoice installer. The problem is its only viewable from a different computer. When I look on my desktop I can't find a trace of it. And vice versa from my other computers. ***? Is it some hidden volume file or a masked virus? How can I find it and get rid of it - I cant seem to delete the folder from another computer - it wont let me.

I then discovered that phpMyAdmin doesn't work. Towards the end of the discussion, someone wrote, "WordPress had put a .htaccess file in the root level of my hard drive. "So in order, if you want to delete this file, you got to activate "hidden files viewing" in the terminal by typing thisdefaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUEand thiskillall Finder"After, you go in the computer root and this should be there, now delete it. I typed all that into Terminal, and it doesn't display anything. In another post, someone mentioned a program called TinkerTool. I downloaded it, but I don't know what to do next. How do I navigate to the root level of my hard drive and find a file and delete a file named .htaccess?

I downloaded files to
1. My downloads
2. My desktop.
But when I went to find the files I could not find them, even using Finder and Spotlight. I eventually found them using 'EasyFind' but I am still perplexed as to why I cannot see them. I can see other files in my downloads file and on my desktop!

list the differences between the 15" and 17" MBP's, with focus on the high res matte options.
The obvious difference is the larger&higher resolution display on the 17" and the extra 1.0 pound of weight and about $100 extra. The 17" also has no USB reader slot, but eSATA. The 17" is also 0.1" thicker.

I have a MacBook Pro mid 2010 os x 10.7.5 8 gigs memory. When I am on a website, the dock is hidden on the bottom of the screen. Cannot get it to come up. I also cannot x out of a website, because the x is gone! I have to restart the computer to be able to get to a new screen. I have checked the settings on the dock, and I have them right.Â

I have tried multiple methods to get hidden files to be shown in Finder including the Terminal command:Â
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUEÂ
killall FinderÂ
I have also tried using Revealer and still no hidden files are shown. Â
Using Mavericks 10.9.x (latest version)Â

I've deleted all the movies from my mac and when I open my system profile it shows I have 42GB of movies somewhere hidden on my macbook. I've tried searching .mov in my spotlight (which yields nothing) and manually searching through the iTunes folder and movies folder (which are empty). Where I can find these hidden movie files -- 42gb is pretty hefty.

I have a 15" MB Pro, 2.66, 8gb ram, Intel Core i7 processor, OS 10.6.8, a year or so old. I'm having trouble with a Lacie d2 Quadra v3 7200rpm drive. At first I thot it was the drive but now believe it's something with the mac since when hooked up to my old MB Pro I don't have this problem. When copying from the Lacie to another drive and sometimes when unmounting I get a message saying it can't unmount because it is in use by another application. But I am not running any other application, at least not knowlingly.
I would guess that a program(s) is accessing the drive without my knowledge (and perhaps performing indexing operations?) and I would like to find out which program(s), and how I can stop it. When I go to Preferences>Accounts>Login Items I see VMWare Fusion Helper (unchecked), and iTunesHelper and CNQL2405_Button Manager (both checked). Could any of these be responsible? I wonder if iTunes being used to backup my iPhone has created a problem, or separately if iCloud, Life or iSync or another app that could index might be creating issues.

I have a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.6.8. I just added a wifi network with a hidden SSID to my saved, preferred networks list. Unlike networks with visible SSIDs, my Mac won't automatically reconnect to it. I hate having to re-enter the password each time.Â

Recent switcher. Experienced in KDE Linux and Windows. If I have two windows in Firefox, both maximized - is there some way, from the dock or cmd-tab to switch between them? Its really hard to find a "fullscreen" windows behind another one. Expose sort of does it, but I prefer to see icons rather than page representations (sometimes it's hard to differentiate between a terminal and a sparse website).
