I recently upgraded to Mavericks. I have Startup Items set to launch Activity Monitor and have the Hide checkbox checked, but the window keeps appear at login.
All of the other apps set in a similar manner work just fine (i.e., they start and their windows say hidden) ... Why Hide does not mean "Hide" for this one app?

I just found a 'hidden' process running in Activity Monitor. If it weren't for the indication of 64 bit under virtual memory, I wouldn't have noticed anything. This is the first time that I've ever seen a 64 bit process running with root privileges. On top of that, it's hidden. Whenever I try to quit or even force quit it, it comes back. Should I be concerned? I'm little worried right now. This wouldn't have any relation to the sudden loss of several fonts that occurred a few days ago, would it? (I lost Century Gothic)

View 2 Replies View RelatedThe left column of Apple Mail viewer window has a function at the bottom allows you to see pop up the "Mail Activity" but very little activity shows in there. Nothing like the separate Activity function which you can open from under the drop down "Window".
Is the Mail Activity in the viewer window not working properly or is it supposed to show only very limited Mail Activity?
Would be convenient to not have to use the separate window for viewing Activity.

In activity monitor it shows that I have 16GB of physical memory, 12.77 GB used memory, 16GB virtual memory.
It also shows App memory 1.9GB, FILE CACHE 9.56GB and wired memory 1.31GB.
My question is in regards to file cache at 9.56GB. What is file cache and why is it so high? Does this mean I should install more memory? I looked file cache up and I think it's memory that has been used but is not being used currently, it's waiting to be used again. Not sure if that's right though, or what it really means.

I have a 13inch MBP running Mavericks 10.9.4 with a 2.7 GHz i7, 16GB RAM, 500GB HD. I just recently had the machine Factory Reset. The only APP's I've added are PAGES, NUMBERS and KEYNOTE. When I check the ACTIVITY MONITOR it indicates that out of 16GB of RAM MEMORY, 5.51GB is being used. Usually ACTIVITY MONITOR indicates that as much as 9GB RAM is being used. This MBP is 3 years old and I clearly upgraded the RAM from 4GB (I think) to 16GB. Since this MBP used to run with only 4GB of RAM total; it seems to me that the current amount of memory being used, from 5.51GB up to 9GB out of 16GB total RAM is unusually high. In addition, the above numbers were displayed when only Safari and Activity Monitor are running. Is this normal for Mavericks OSX?

Imac/Mavericks running super-slow for months. Activity Monitor shows "Finder Web Content" is the CPU hog. It also always shows that it's "not responding." Other threads say to quit process, which I do, but it pops right back up. I do use Safari, but Word is closed. Any clues?

I recently upgraded my RAM to 16 GB from the original 4. I notice thru the activity monitor that my current usage is 13.54GB. Is there a way to reduce the active usage of RAM via the activity monitor, or is this not a big deal?

When I restart my computer, not all of the users are shown in the Login Window. Only the Master account is shown. When I LOGOUT only then are all of the users shown. How do I get all of the users shown in the LOGIN window when the computer is restarted?

so, not sure what I did, but recently these little windows pop up that tell me what certain applications are doing. Currently they show up when I change a song in itunes a last.fm window pops up to tell me the song changed, and it also pops up in skype it pops up telling me the other person is typing and when they send there message. It's probably something really dumb that I didn't realize I did, but I can't seem to figure it out.
They are all the last.fm windows covering the screen. They usually don't show up in that mass amount, but I just skipped through itunes so a bunch of them would show up and get the point across
I have tried to download videos from Youtube, Putlocker and Facebook, trough the activity window, but every time, i try to download the relevant video, it opens up in a new tab with only the video and isn´t downloading it, like it usually do in the downloading window.
This really bugs me, because all the sites Youtube, putlocker (except for facebook) i tried before and at that time it worked. (Mac OS X version 10.7.3)
When I turn on lap top (iBook G4 Mac OS x 10.3) i get the following message "Login Window Starting" I followed Apple support guidance - specifically safe start and performing the fsck then reboot process and neither works for me. I don't have the disks any more so I cant use them for reloading the software. I want to sell the laptop so i just want to format the HD. Is it possible to format from command lines?
View 1 Replies View Relateda colleague of mine has an older MacBook with Mac OS X 10.4.11 and Safari 4.x. She can use the Activity window in Safari to download a YouTube video, but after the download is finished (20MB or 6MB or ...), the downloaded file is called "videoplayback", without the .flv suffix. Even if she appends the .flv suffix, she can't play them back in VLC or SWF + FLV Player.
It's no biggie, as she can use KeepVid, but I was just curious, why it is that way. Does anyone know?
I have been using safari's activity window for downloading all sorts of media by using the activity window. However, the items in the activity window no longer show up. On youtube for example, the mb file is no longer showing up in the windows activity like it use to. In the past, when this problem occurred, refreshing the page would fix this problem but this method is no longer working. I have noticed that this problem is only happening to youtube. When i went to vimeo, the video file could still be viewed in the activity window whilst it was loading, e.g. 1.3 mb of 30mb. I am using a macbook pro running on mac os x with safari version 5.0.3.

I'm trying to make Mail start at Login but be hidden. But even when I go into System Preferences > Accounts > Login Items, and check the box for "Hide" by Mail, it still opens with the window when I log in. Is there any way to actually make it be hidden upon login?

I use Safari and Mail 90% of the time. The other 10% is occasional iTunes use, MPlayer use, and Preview use. Is it time for me to upgrade to 4 GB of RAM?

I installed Leopard from an OS disk I purchased to upgrade from Tiger. I just went to launch Activity Monitor and it is not there? I checked Applications and Utilities. From what I read it seems that Leopard should have activity monitor.

So I figured I would check out whats going on with my system and fire it up. Activity Monitor does not respond. It starts to open but then sits at this screen with a beach ball...
After a while I usually just Force Quit. Ive ran Onyx recently as well as Disk Repair and everything seems ok.
My iMovie window is hidden behind the dock. When I get it out with 2 fingers and click on it, it won't activate. Rather it disappears behind the dock again. I tried quitting iMovie -- but it's useless. First time this happened on my 4-year-old mac.

Check this out. Minimize iTunes using the green button to get the mini-player. Then plug in your iPhone. iTunes 8.1.1 no longer expands and pops to the front of your screen! That's really cool! I noticed this in 8.1.1, but it could have been introduced in 8.1, I don't know.

Since then I have had two processes constantly running, "gridcastd" & "GridCastAlerts." When i select and quit the processes nothing happens, they just continues to run.
View 8 Replies View RelatedAccording to the screenshot, both Users (green) and System (red) uses 0,19% CPU each. Which means that idle (black) should be around 99%, which it clearly isn't. If I check each process individually, none is using more than 1% of CPU. The screenshot is taken after a reboot and I don't use and third-party background services like VMWare. It's Mac Pro 2.66 Quad (2009).

There are the usual apps I can see, Logic, FF, iTunes, Finder, MS Messenger etc etc. Though there is a lot of other stuff, I don't know what it is (probably system stuff?). For instance there is configd, syslogd, mds, cron most of these have root inb the server column. In the User column for my name I can see mdworker, pboard, launchd and couple of others.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have recently tried changing the Activity Monitor Icon by using Candybar, for some reason Candybar does not have a Activity monitor in the menu. I have than went to Activity monitor application which is on the desktop and clicked on " show package contents" + "resources" and dragged the original activity monitor icon to a random folder and dragged a new icon into the resources folder. I logged out and logged back in and now the icon did now show up, there is a application icon now.
I have dragged the new icon out and put the old one back in the folder to see if it would go back to its original icon and now it does not go back to how it was in the first place, so pretty much no icon exists but only a application icon shows but the program does open up. Another thing I dont understand is why I could not see a Activity Monitor Icon in the CandyBar program, I am not sure how to change the Icon or how people change it or why they have modified activity monitor icons is you cant change it.
