Feb 22, 2012I haven't been able to copy files from my downloads folder to Font Book, or more importantly, copy files from my jump drive to a folder on my desktop.I also can't copy images from a CD to my desktop. All instances give the error message window "The operation cant be completed because you dont have permission to access some of the items." I should have permission to copy everything, but I'm wondering if in the case of the fonts, the new Lion OS prevents you from using fonts without a license (even if they're free??) pretty clueless

I'm on Mac X 10.4.6, I'm using Xcode 2.0 and I've created the setup with PackageMaker.

I used to use my HP external drive for time machine, but since i got a new bigger WD one to use with time machine i have wiped the HP using disk utility but it is still showing up on the desktop with a time machine icon. i think i can still use it like a normal hard drive but it is causing a bit of confusion and its really irritating!! is there any way that i can change it back? i've tried wiping it a few more times but it still won't work..

Dec 5, 2014Macintosh HD is showing 370GB used but it doesn't add up when you look at the Users folder. The largest User account is 24GB, and between Applications, System, and Library there's only another 17GB used. Hence, about 320GB of used drive space is unaccounted for.Â
Disk Utility also shows 500GB drive, 127GB available, 370GB used.Â
I suspect an older User account was deleted but has somehow been retained, albeit hidden. Yet the Deleted Users folder is showing Zero Bytes.Â
Also, the Trash is completely empty, so the missing data is not lurking there.Â
I'd very much like to examine the deleted account and look at the data (particularly photos and movies) that were in there.

PowerPC :: Adding 2nd Optical Drive To Powermac G4
Feb 12, 2008i added a 2nd optical drive (Pioneer 115D) to my mdd dually 1.25 G4. BUT, i'm sure I didn't do it right. Sure, it recognizes the drive, but I put them on the same bus (Ata-33). I should have them on separate bus', but I have 2 hd in the rear ata-100 drive carrier and 1 in the front ata-66 carrier. Can anyone tell me how to effectively put them on separate bus'? is there a website with specific directions on how to do it this way? The reason why I was told to keep them on diff. bus' is b/c they won't function as well (data lockups b/c same bus can't handle data).

And if so, how do I go about doing this? Also I would like high performance from CS6 so should I install it on the SSD as well? All the other non apple apps should be okay on the stock HHD or should I just buy a 250GB SSD and move everything over at once with a clone?

OS X Mavericks :: Hard Drive Storage Not Adding Up?
Sep 10, 2014I was shocked to see that my hard drive was close to full last night when I checked on its capacity. Mainly because I just wiped clean a month ago and reinstalled with the current version of Mavericks.  It would appear that my problem lies within a massive amount of storage used classified as "other". My HD holds 320 GB and of that, "other" is taking up 161 GB along with my Audio, Movies, Photos and Apps taking up a combined 120 GB. This leaves me with about 40 GB left of free space.Â
I am unable to pinpoint the location of these "other" files. Totaling up the four subfolders in my HD (System, Library, Users and Applications) only amounts to 120 GB which can be traced back to my Audio, Movies, Photos and Apps. This leaves 161 GB floating around used somewhere that I haven't the slightest clue of where it is. I have used Grand Perspective and a disk space analyzer from the app store and they both only recognize 120 GB being used by the hard drive. Â
To make things a little more interesting, when I first noticed this "other" issue, it was taking up 145 GB and over the course of an hour or so after multiple restarts it has worked its way up to the 161 GB it is at now. Is there some type of glitch here?Â
I have tried restarting in Safe Mode to reset any stuck processes, but that didn't work either. I have searched similar problems but most people have found massive log files which they were able to pinpoint using a disk analyzer.Â
With a clean wipe and reset only a month ago, how can the "other" be this big already?Â
I have a 2007 iMac which ran great with snow leopard...I currently have the latest version of Mavericks 10.9.4

At the moment it has a 320gb hard drive (installed stock by apple). I am planning to remove the hard drive, install a Samsung 840 Evo 250gb SSD into the internal drive bay and then use an optical drive caddy to also keep the 320gb hard drive in my computer.Â
How to install the SSD and set it up with the OS and a few applications however keep my personal files and media on the 320gb hard drive. Â
What would the be the best way of re-installing the OS onto my newly formatted SSD?
How would I set up my MBP properly to save certain files (e.g. caches etc) to the HD or SSD?
what the read/write speeds will be like for the SSD (does my MBP support SATA 3?)?

Dec 27, 2010Itunes demons got me again. I have about 2 or 3 gigs out of my 350+GB collection on my internal HD. I keep everything on my external since it is so much. How this music copied to my internal HD I really have no clue. I just copied 15 cds in a row to itunes and half went to external and half went to internal. Everything plays and works fine I just want it all on the external. How can I get the music to my external without messing it up on itunes and taking forever deleting and re-adding music?

Dec 6, 2008I'm on Tiger 10.4.11, and the latest iTunes. I have an external hard drive on which I keep all my music files, managed by iTunes. I'm running out of room on that drive. At some point, it is not practical to keep increasing the size of the drive, as the reliability goes down. I'd like to keep my drives to 1TB or so. So, the other solution is to add a second external hard drive, where all new music files can go to. How to do it, so iTunes doesn't freak out? Here's what I'm thinking - could you guys help make it work?
I thought to add the second drive and then in iTunes preferences -->Advanced---> iTunes Music folder location CHANGE to the NEW drive. That way, I'd have iTunes copy all new music to the NEW DRIVE. Question: Now, how do I go about having iTunes reference files on the FIRST drive, so that the Library is up to date, and when I select something to play from the FIRST drive, iTunes knows how to find it?
Hardware :: Adding Time Capsule As Secondary TM Drive
Dec 19, 2008I recently had to erase the HD on my iMac and do a complete restore from my external Time Machine drive. Luckily everything,including programs, were restored to where they were during the last backup. This mishap underscored the importance of having everything backed-up and made me truly appreciate Time Machine. As a result I'm considering adding Time Capsule as a secondary Time Machine drive (in addition to the G-drive I have connected via firewire),to act as a back-up to the back-up. I was wondering if I'd be able to do that if I install TC using the "Bridge to an existing network" option during setup.
Would I be able to manage my backups by changing the volume in Time Machine's settings from TC to my G-Force HD, or vice versa? To be clear, i want two full back-up records on separate drives at any given time. I am accustomed to doing my back-ups manually as I don't want my back-up HD running continuously or every hour or so as is suggested by Apple. My feeling is that my external HD will last longer by not being powered-on 24/7. Another reason why I like TC over simply getting a second external HD is because of the networking capability of TC. I get a very weak signal as it is in my basement and I'm hopeful this will improve streaming to my ps3 and iPhone when I'm downstairs.

Applications :: Adding To An Existing Itunes Folder On External Hard Drive?
Jan 15, 2009Okay here's the thing: I (not so long ago) copied my entire itunes library to my external hard drive. Now I have updated my itunes library on my powerbook, and want to make sure that I back up the new songs/albums I have. The problem with this is that I have always found that when I drag the itunes folder from my powerbook to the itunes folder on my external drive, it asks to 'replace the itunes music folder'. I don't want this as there are some albums that I have stored in my folder but not on my itunes library and still want to keep them stored.
Is there any way that I could just keep adding to the 'existing' itunes folder on my external drive?
