OS X V10.7 Lion :: Safari URL Shortcut Icon Missing In The Dock?
May 12, 2012since the 10.7.4 update, I have the url shortcuts icon missing in my dock: When draging a new URL from safari to the dock, it's the same problem. The icon is invisible but there is a gap between the other icons and the name of the url's page is displayed when passing the cursor. This problem is only with URL shortcuts and no with jpg or pdf or mp3 or folder sortcuts etc.. I have already reboot the dock and make a disk permissions check and repair. Restarting my computer doesn't solve the problem. Safari Version 5.1.7 (7534.57.2)

Jun 25, 2008I've ported my Qt 4.3 application on Mac OS and it works correctly fine. After I've created a setup which install my application and other required files. Now I'm searching help for 3 things :
1) How I can customize my application icon and give it a specific icon
2) How to create a desktop shotcut of my application after installation
3) How to add my application to the Dock.
I'm on Mac X 10.4.6, I'm using Xcode 2.0 and I've created the setup with PackageMaker.

Apr 30, 2012We have an issue with adding a network icon to the dock. Some machines display it fine and others don't.
I remember him telling me that using workgroup manager doesn't work so he used to do it another way using a plist file or something along those lines. I've found the file he means but it's a .app file which contains a unix exe?
I've googled this problem and there seems to be people doing this with profile manager but we don't have this software. I assumed this could be done with workgroup manager but for some reason it doesn't.
The shortcut needs to simply go to \servernameshare
The other complication i'm going to have is that the \servernameshare is being moved to a different location as it's grown so big we have run out of space. The shortcut will need to be edited with the new sharename.

Apr 19, 2012As of this morning I turned on my 2006 imac running snow leopard and the flashback icon, the fake acrobat reader icon with the circular arrows, is lodged on my dock and is not removable. I ran apple's security update, but, that malware icon is now stuck there. Won't come off. What to do?

It is not something on the desktop as I have moved the dock and can't see it, so it is definitely connected with the Application icon. I have deleted all downloads which could have been half done and I have removed an Alias I had in the Application folder. Now all the Applications appears as "Applications" in the "Kind" column when viewing in Finder.

Dec 27, 2009Hi, I just got a new Macbook for xmas. Turned it on today for first time and downloaded Google Earth. I somehow dragged it into the Macintosh Hard Drive. Now when I click on the Macintosh HD icon, and the window opens up, I see the Google Earth icon to the left of the search box. When the arrow hovers over it, it shows the path to where the app is saved. If I click it, it opens the application. Its also in the Applications subfolder. I want to keep the program but how do I get it off the top of the HD window?

Feb 25, 2012So I started using my MacBook Pro as a device I connect to my TV. I have an HDMI adapter, and, after setting up the display and sound, it is awesome! I even purchased a Trackpad so I can sit on my couch and navigate. The cost of the adapter and Trackpad are more than paid for with my canceling of cable.
Anyway, my question is about the virtual keyboard in OS X. It doesn't happen often, but I sometimes have to type in a user name or password for sites. I know how to go through "System Preferences", "Universal Access", and then "Keyboard Preferences" to turn it on, but is there a faster way?
What I really want to know is if I can create a shortcut in my dock for the virtual keyboard?
If not, does anyone know of any third party, virtual keyboard applications that would work this way?

Jun 9, 2009I can't seem to figure out how to add a printer, everything on the printer is setup. I can see the printer in my network (see photo, it's the EXROX-ALLINONE), but when I add it, it won't print anything, just waits and waits. I do know the internal ip for that printer if that helps.
I don't get how I can see the printer when I add it, but it just won't print.

May 1, 2012We have two suites of apple mac's and we have an apple server (mac mini) They are all running Mac OSX SL 10.6.8 Basically I'd like the server to add an icon to a network share onto each dock so that I don't have to visit each and everyone manually. The guy who used to admin the mac's has left so I'm left to learn everything mac and at present I can only basically use a mac (i'm keen and learning). He used to copy a link over manually somehow I don't know, but the file is a .app file which I believe he placed into the applications folder and ran it like that. I've tried this and it doesnt work. Also he has somehow locked the desktops down so that all the menus are greyed out. The "Go" menu is completely greyed out. He's left instructions on how to unrestrict by using a specific username and password. Even under administrator they are unrestricted.

OS X :: Adding 2nd User Without Printer Access?
Nov 10, 2010Here's the situation. Wireless network thru Time Capsule, wireless printer, 2 macbooks, Snow Leopard 10.6.4. I'm the only listed user and admin on both systems (same user name, same home directory name, same password). I'd like to add a second account to one of the macbooks, and here's a list of what I'd like to do specifically with the second account:
1) different account name, auto login, no password. (this I have been able to do)
2) Same desktop, file and program access as the original account, no changes to existing email setup, etc. (this I do not know how to do) With the new account I setup, the desktop is completely different, and no email accounts are setup. I want everything to be the same (except #3 listed below).
3) No printing access, which is the whole point of creating this second account. I already have tried turning off print sharing, deleted all print drivers, printer plist, etc., but the darn printer keeps reinstalling (after clicking "last printer used" in the print dialog box, and software update asks to download and reinstall the missing drivers). If I can accomplish task #2, I'm guessing I can restrict printing simply with parental controls. right?

Sep 11, 2009That's the message I got when adding a new printer driver. The reference was system/library/extension/cnqe202-classicnotseize.kext. Or close to that. I think I got that message also when upgrading to 10.6.1. As I recall there was also a note about updating this extension but no info on how to do it. Searching for .kext brought up a long list from last August having to do with crash reports with skype, real player, fire fox and a couple more; but nothing permanent and everything is working fine. Anyone have any thoughts about this? I'm using an iMac, 20".

So I downloaded the print driver from here and ran the installer. Then I connected to the networked printer I have and selected a driver from the drop down box, not sure if its the one that was installed or not. Tried printing a test page, no such luck.
