OS X Mavericks :: Finder Window Automatically Jump To The Top When Move A File Out Of It
Jul 1, 2014When I have a folder open, say downloads, in a list view, and I delete a file, the scroll bar will automatically jump to the top of the list. It's absolutely non-sensical. One of the most annoying things ever when your trying to organize a long list of files. Happens in 10.8.5 and in Mavericks on two separate computers. It's worse in 10.8.5 as sometimes it will glitch out and do it even when I am scrolling down the list. . Kind of thing that makes you want to switch to windows. Â
How do I turn this off?

Jun 21, 2014I just setup a Seagate external drive to become my offsite backup. I am a new iMac user. I dragged and dropped my most important folders (using Finder) onto the Seagate drive (to copy them over) but probably I did something incorrectly because the Document folder which has all my important files disappeared from under Favorites in Finder and did not show up on the Seagate. I can no longer access what I need as there is no easy way to locate my files which were grouped in a multi level, nicely organized file structure under Documents, to make it easy for me to locate my work. Â
Now, Finder shows under Favorites: All My Files, Airdrop, Applications, Desktop, Downloads, Logins. Previously it also had an entry for Documents, now missing. Using All My Files I can locate the files I worked on yesterday, so they are still on the hard drive.Â

Nov 30, 2014How do I transfer video files from one external hard drive to another external hard drive? OS X 10.9.5. I opened up each device in a finder window and tried to drag and drop from one device to the other. No luck. Next, I R-clicked on the file and requested to copy it, then R-clicked on the Finder of the destination drive, hoping to paste but that option did not present. I am able to paste a file onto the desktop from the original location but I cannot move it from there onto the destination drive. Full disclosure: I began this operation using a Windows laptop with no difficulties. Both drives are dual formatted. The destination drive is 2 Tb and has 1.5 Tb remaining space.

Feb 22, 2012I haven't been able to copy files from my downloads folder to Font Book, or more importantly, copy files from my jump drive to a folder on my desktop.I also can't copy images from a CD to my desktop. All instances give the error message window "The operation cant be completed because you dont have permission to access some of the items." I should have permission to copy everything, but I'm wondering if in the case of the fonts, the new Lion OS prevents you from using fonts without a license (even if they're free??) pretty clueless

OS X Mavericks :: External Hard Drive Won't Transfer Files To Mac HD And Causes Finder To Crash
Dec 6, 2014My external Hard Drive (Western Digital 2TB hard drive in a ICYBOX 2-bay USB 2.0 HD Dock) won't transfer files to the Mac HD. The transfer box comes up but stays at the 'estimating time' stage and remains like that. No matter how big the file/group of files are (biggest I've tried was only 500-odd MB) it won't transfer and stays at the 'estimating time' stage. When I try and stop the transfer, the transfer box remains at the 'stopping' stage until I restart the iMac. I can access other programs during this 'stopping' stage, as long as it doesn't involve the External HD.Â
When I attempt to open files from the External HD in Photoshop CS4, both Photoshop and Finder stop responding and have I have to 'Force Quit'. However, upon force quitting finder, I loose all icons on the desktop until I restart the Mac via holding down the 'Power' button on the back.Â
Ive already done a couple things.Â
- I excluded the Ext HD on the Spotlight>Privacy tab.Â
- I verified the Ext HD via System Utilities. Some errors came up but the Repair was successful and subsequent Verifications have returned as 'OK'.Â
- I tried the Mac Diagnostic tool as suggested by Apple, but when I press the 'D' key on start up nothing happens.Â
The annoying thing is that this problem came out of the blue, the Ext HD was working fine 3 days ago.Â

Jun 13, 2010I recently bought a macbook pro and am making the transition from a pc to mac. It's all gone well so far, but I'm not sure what to do with my music. I currently have about 200 gb of music on my external hard drive (connected to my pc.) The internal hard drive on my pc does not have space to accomodate the files on my external.
I do not have the "Copy files to iTunes music folder" currently enabled because my internal doesn't have space. (And I like having the original music files in a separate location as I have over 30,000 songs). I don't know how to transfer my external and music to my macbook, since I will have to reformat the drive (which would erase everything on it, therefore I somehow have to make a backup either on my mac or on my pc. but what to do about the iTunes .xml file and iTunes folder on the internal pc drive??).

The existing account (on the Mac) is in my name and I don’t want another account of the same name (even with the usual 1 or 2 added).
Is there a way to completely delete the existing Mac account before I begin the transfer? And will this solve the problem?

OS X :: Where Different Apps Jump From One Space To Another?
Feb 7, 2009My query: anyone else have a problem where different apps suddenly jump from one space to another? For example: I'll have skype and mail open in space one, word/excel/ppt in two. When I switch from two to one to check my email, no problem. When I switch back to continue with ppt, i discover that my ppt palette has followed me to space one like a faithful dog, but then got lost there, apparently unable to find its way back to space two. So I go back up to space one to fetch him back home and then get back only to discover that the excel palette has gone looking for his friend in space three where I've got GE running! It's like an old Abott & Costello flick.

Every major (numbered) update should be a big change so is there a reason this one is so special.

Aug 26, 2014I have 2 versions of OS X running on my mid-2012 MacBook pro. They're on separate partitions. I want to put everything into Mavericks and just use Mavericks exclusively.Â
Can I simply open the 'disk' (which contains the partition with the other OS X installed on it) in Finder, locate what data I want to copy and put it straight back in to the Mavericks partition (copy and paste) or do I have to put it on a removable hard drive while booted in to the other partition and do it that way? Â
Ideally I want to get rid of the other partition with the other version of OS X on it. Can I safely destroy that and re-allocate that 100GB back in to my Mavericks partition without any issues or will it have an effect e.g. loss of data/settings even though all my data and applications with the exception of anything I created while using the other version of OS X on the other partition... which I understand would be lost if I formatted the disk or deleted the partition without saving a copy of that elsewhere first. Â
