View 14 RepliesIs there any way to reset the original battery capacity? This is a new MacBook pro. I am using coconutBattery and it says my original capacity is only 1300mAh. My current capacity is 12718mAh.

Is there any way to check (serial number, etc.) what battery came with the purchased computer?

Is that normal considering that last week it was reporting 102% the original capacity. By the way Im on battery all the time. Can this be a cause? As I observed, over the time the battery strength used to vary between 98% to 102% the original capacity.
Info:
MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014), OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)
I have just downloaded coconut battery and its says that my original battery capacity was 4100 mAh. it says that the current capacity is 4410 mAh. I don't understand this, how can it be? Also it says my mac is 8 weeks old so this must be the creation date as I brought this mac this week.

The previous owner doesn't however have any of the original installation disks but he does include a backup copy of Snow Leopard. Do I need the original installation disks or will the backup copy of snow Leopard suffice? *I don't know the difference between a backup version and original* And if I need them what are they and where do I get them?

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy battery needed replacing for a couple of months before i dropped it from about knee level onto a sidewalk. After the drop I got the not charging icon. I thought maybe the battery had just finally died. so I did not panic about the no charge. The laptop works fine when plugged in to power with the old battery on or no battery at all. Not at all when unplugged.
When I put the brand new battery on the lap top, the computer shuts down halfway through boot up. I tried holding the power button down through boot up reset, as well as removing all power (plug and battery) and holding down the power button for 10 seconds reset.
My screen suddenly went dark. I was connected and at 100%, however, now the battery is not charging. The system report says that there is no battery installed. I am hearing "white noise" also.

I have just purchased a new MacBook Pro, however i was never issued with any recovery DVD's. In the event of a full re-instillation how would i be able to restore my system back to original state? When i spoke to the assistant in the apple shop, he told me that they were not required, is this correct? Can i purchase the recovery DVD's from Apple?

I am giving my old macbook to a friend's son and want to restore to factory settings. I don't have the discs and there is no Apple Store where I live.

I've looked at some other posts that have gone over how to move files to an external drive, and they all say to use command while moving. I understand this copies the file and deletes the original, but when you make a copy and delete the original, you lose some of the original data, such as creation date, etc... This makes storage and organization more complicated than it has to be.

I'm have an old iBook Clamshell 320mb of RAM with OS X 10.2.8 installed, and today I tried to replace the Extras.rsrc with the "Liger" theme (you know the one that makes it look like leopard?) but I didn't know it wouldn't work with 10.2 so I took the original put it in a folder on the desktop called 'System Files Needed Don't Delete' and then I restarted the computer, and it won't boot to the login screen and just stays blue with the cursor. Is there some way I can fix this without installing 10.1.4 again, and not sending it to a friend who can install 10.2.8? I only have the 10.1.4 install disk.
View 4 Replies View Relatedi have the 1.6 80gig original MBA.I did not use it for a few days and came back to it to find it had been on standby for that time, i pressed the power button but it didn't wake, so i held it down to force a shut down then pressed it again. at which point it came straight on to a greyed out screen for a few seconds and then went back to normal... all was fine. The next time i tried to use it, it would not turn on, so i assumed the battery was dead and connected the power chord and true enough it came on straight away.

Would be extremely interested in hearing about the battery life of the MacBook Air either the 13.3" or 11.6" from someone using it firsthand.

I just got my first Mac yesterday, 13" MacBook Pro. I LOVE IT! I've been trying to find out some info on the battery calibration that I can't find anywhere. I have tried Apple's website, Google and MRoogle before I made a new thread about it

View 24 Replies View RelatedI just noticed that my when I got my macbook plugged in, it's not charging. The icon is the one you got when it's plugged in (with the little fork-shaped thing in the middle), but instead of it saying 'charging' like when the battery isn't full, or 'charged', when it is, it just says 'Not Charging'. It's like it can see the magsafe connector inside, but the juice isn't coming through to the battery, even though the computer itself is powered by the charger since when I click on the power symbol I get 'Power source: Power adapter'.
Also, the magsafe connector itself isn't lit. It used to be green for a bit, but a much weaker green than normal, and before that it wasn't even lit--I've tried with three different wall outlets, one of which was outside my house where I usually use it (it was in a starbucks). Also, when I disconnected the magsafe to get a reading for the battery, it was only 1:35, even though the magsafe light was green (albeit a weak green). If it matters, I'm running 10.5.3. The macbook is still fairly new, bought mid-december, all updates current as I got it set to checking daily and install the minute I get the notice.
Is there there anything wrong in using the battery that was drop and have a dent on it. I drop my macbook battery when I open it up to upgrade my hdd and it left huge dent on it. I'm not worry about how the dent looks on my battery because it a battery is cover by the lid, but I am more concern about the battery performance or the life of it. Like... would a dent battery burn up my mac and stuff? Since I dropped it 4 days ago, I've been using my macbook just fine, it not too hot, battery is about 2.5 to 3.5 hours with factory default power setting setting. Since nothing is wrong now it wont be likely to occur in the future right?
View 1 Replies View RelatedThe Apple one looks tempting as it comes with 6 batteries and 29€ isn't too much, plus, as usual, it looks brilliant. I looked at some 3rd party chargers as well ranging from 20€ to 40€. None of them was stunning or special by any means. Cheaper ones usually came with two or four batteries and some came without batteries. I don't really need it for else than Magic Mouse, occasionally for something else too.

I want to get a battery backup for my PowerMac G5 dual 1.8ghz PPC, but the numbers confuse me. the UPS selector tool on APC's website suggests I can get away with one that runs at 800VA.i dont need it to last long, I'm really just looking for something that will protect from surges, condition the power, and give me enough time to shut down in case of a power outage. I wouldnt need more than a few minutes, and I dont expect more than a few minutes power supply.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAter charging it the other day I noticed a "service battery" error which went away the next. I checked the power section in the System Utilities and I noticed that my battery has shifted from "Good" to "normal" and I'm now at 469 cycles which I do not understand I also notice a very quiet humming-- I'm not sure if I'm just being paranoid and searching for problems or if there's a correlation amongst the issues. I've let the battery wear it self down and shut down and sit for a few hours and fully charge which has helped, but now it only holds charge for about 3-4 hours or so, opposed to the 5 hours I got when I initially bought it.
View 8 Replies View RelatedJust wondering if anyone has ever encountered this or if any experts out there know of the issue.
I have a spare White Macbook (late 2008: Core 2 Duo 2.1GHz, 1GB, 120GB) that I'd like to set up for my brother to use to introduce him to the wonderful world of Macs. The problem it is having is that when I have a battery connected to it (I tried 2 different ones included a known-good one that is brand-new just purchased from Apple) it powers on and gives me the chime, but then immediately shuts off unexpectedly giving that little "whine" sound like if it just lost power all of a sudden. However, when i take out the battery, and just plug it into the Magsafe AC charger it works fine. Also when just trying to run on battery it does not turn on at all. Here's some cliffs:
1) Macbook with just battery does not turn on
2) Macbook with battery + Magsafe AC charger connects powers on, gives the chime, but then immediately shuts off making the "whine" sound as if the power was suddenly cut off
3) Macbook with no battery connected and just the Magsafe AC charger connected works fine.
Do you guys think this is either:
A) battery connector issue (the little piece with the metal wires that the battery connects to. ~$50 part)
B) Logic Board issue
I already tried resetting the PRAM and SMU to no avail.
