MacBook Pro :: Battery Is Not Charging / System Report Says That There Is No Battery Installed
Aug 31, 2014
My screen suddenly went dark. I was connected and at 100%, however, now the battery is not charging. The system report says that there is no battery installed. I am hearing "white noise" also.

I just noticed that my when I got my macbook plugged in, it's not charging. The icon is the one you got when it's plugged in (with the little fork-shaped thing in the middle), but instead of it saying 'charging' like when the battery isn't full, or 'charged', when it is, it just says 'Not Charging'. It's like it can see the magsafe connector inside, but the juice isn't coming through to the battery, even though the computer itself is powered by the charger since when I click on the power symbol I get 'Power source: Power adapter'.
Also, the magsafe connector itself isn't lit. It used to be green for a bit, but a much weaker green than normal, and before that it wasn't even lit--I've tried with three different wall outlets, one of which was outside my house where I usually use it (it was in a starbucks). Also, when I disconnected the magsafe to get a reading for the battery, it was only 1:35, even though the magsafe light was green (albeit a weak green). If it matters, I'm running 10.5.3. The macbook is still fairly new, bought mid-december, all updates current as I got it set to checking daily and install the minute I get the notice.

I calibrated my battery for the first time since Dec. When I plugged it in this morning, it took 3 hours to charge all the way, and now it's stuck on 99% full, 0:00 till completely charged, and I'm getting an error when I click on the battery in the menu bar that says "Service Battery". When I click on the error, it tells me that it may not be functioning properly and to take it to an authorized apple service retailer. Before I waste 2 hours by going to the Apple store and back, has anyone else had this problem, and is there a way to fix it without having it looked at?

I have a Mac 10.6.8 running Snow Leopard. My battery won't charge: all I get is "Not Charging" in the menu bar battery status; the power adapter doesn't light up either. It's not a problem with the battery—when I put my battery in my friend's MacBook, it worked just fine. His battery, however, wouldn't charge either when it was in my computer. I have tried resetting the SMC several times, following the instructions exactly. I've reset the PRAM, run disk repair, and fixed disk permissions. I don't have the money to take it to a repairman—even if I did, I need my computer every day for work.

My battery needed replacing for a couple of months before i dropped it from about knee level onto a sidewalk. After the drop I got the not charging icon. I thought maybe the battery had just finally died. so I did not panic about the no charge. The laptop works fine when plugged in to power with the old battery on or no battery at all. Not at all when unplugged.
When I put the brand new battery on the lap top, the computer shuts down halfway through boot up. I tried holding the power button down through boot up reset, as well as removing all power (plug and battery) and holding down the power button for 10 seconds reset.

I have the Black Macbook (purchased in 2008) and within the past month, I have been experiencing problems with the battery. I've noticed lately it becoming weak, not being able to last long without being plugged in. However, now when I plug it into the charger, it shows 0%, and if I disconnect the charger, it automatically shuts off. I checked the System Profiler, and the condition of the health shows "Check Battery". What are my next steps from here? I don't want to purchase a new battery, in hopes to get a new Macbook later this summer. Does my Macbook have much life, or should I go ahead and brace myself for a new one?

I have had my 13 in macbook pro for about three months and suddenly it does not charge when it is plugged in. In the last week this has started to happen but upon fussing with the connection like unplugging and replugging in the magnet charger it would start for a while and stop randomly. Now I can not get the computer to charge at all no matter how much I fuss. Do I need a new adapter or is there some other problem?

I plugged the charger to my macbook but it appears battery is not charging and i can see the green light at the charger but the green light is not as usual light, i mean its a little bit light.
Now i can't start my macbook, i tried to plug the charger to my macbook air and it worked fine.
Do i need a replacement battery?

Went to Apple Store, they confirmed the battery needed to be replaced, told me it was $130 for a new one. I opted against it (figured I'd grab a cheap one online somewhere for now). Then, she informed me that the cracked casing on the edge where my right hand rests is a defect and that I could have the whole housing replaced. I said sure, and left my MacBook there for repairs.
Just picked it up about an hour ago, new housing, new keyboard, new trackpad/click button....and a brand-spanking new battery on the house.Call me whatever you'd like, but that would make anyone love Apple.Left my MacBook at home during a vacation and forgot to completely power down. It was closed and when i got back it was dead. Didn't think it was a big deal, it has happened before.
I plugged in my MacBook, turned it on, and begin doing what i needed to do. I noticed after about a half hour my battery symbol was still showing 0% with the full charge symbol. I unplugged the power cord and it immediately turned off again--completely dead.Plugged it back in, turned it on and it was fine, but still not charging. The light on my connector is green as well (signaling a full charge).Left it plugged in for about an hour after that with the top closed and still no charge.

I'm using Macbook model A1342 late 2009
For the past 4 months or so, it's been hard for the charger connect to properly connect and charge. However, it has always worked when I wiggle the connect a bit. Last week, no matter how hard I try, it won't charge. I tried to use my friend's charger but still, it wont charging. I can still turn on and off my laptop while the battery is about 40% left. I even install the Macbook application install DVD for apple hardware test and it said that my laptop is working properly. Untill the battery turns 0% and it shuts down on its own. I first thought it was the battery failure. Then, I sent it to a local apple service centre in Russia to make sure whether I can change a new battery. They run some diagnostic and said it wasnt the battery, it was the logic board! I never spill any liquid on it. And how is it possible that the logic board is broken but I can turn it on?

I bought a second hand Macbook Pro from an aquaintance. It's a 2008 and he tells me he bought the battery in February 2012 and that it was working fine before he shipped it to me. He had to take the battery out of the computer at the post office so it sat with no battery installed for 2 weeks. The icon at the top shows 0% and not charging. In the system info it says 0% and sometimes says it is charging but sometimes not. It says the battery is normal. The light on the magport goes between green and amber and the light on the battery only shows one LED lit up.
I've read that it can be a glitch with the new Lion OS but he swears it was working perfectly when he shipped it.I've tried the SMC reset (a couple of times)...what else can I do???

Well my battery wasn't charging for a week or so. A couple of hours ago I noticed that the macbook was lifted up in the front. I saw that the battery was swollen and quickly took it out as soon as I saw it. I have a Late 2006 model that is no longer under Apple Care. Expired in January of 2010. I was wondering with Apple would replace the swollen Battery for a new/refurbished one.

I'm wondering, what is better for prolonging your macbook pro's battery life, is it
1. drain the battery, recharge it fully, plug out the source, drain it, and recharge it again
or
2. keep charging it whenever you have a power source and never drain it?
I've always been doing #2 because I use the laptop a lot and home and it would just be a hassle to keep switching the power source on and off.
But then I heard that it's bad if you overcharge your battery, so once in awhile I try to do #1. Last night, though, my friend told me it's bad for your battery if you drain it all the time.
So which is, in fact, good or bad for your mbp?

What's the best thing to do with the MBA out of the box? Should I use it and drain the battery to zero or not even turn it on and just charge it?
I want to treat it nicely from day one ...
Also, on the same topic of treating it nicely, do you recommend a screen or keyboard protector? I had a keyboard protector on my PowerBook G4 (iskin). While it kept the keyboard nice and clean, I suppose it didn't give me the best experience I could have had with the keyboard itself. I now realize that I can't really read the keys because the protector is so dirty.

My macbook is a 2 Ghz Core duo "MacBook1,1" and it has a problem now: If I plug in the magsafe PSU the battery says "not charging" but the notebook is powered (i.e. the battery does not waste). The other macbook is a 2 Ghz Core 2 Duo "MacBook3,1" which is working fine. It will charge either of the batteries (so I can charge both batteries but only on the one macbook). Also, on my "bad" macbook when I plug the macsafe plug in the light goes a very dim green rather than bright orange (but, as I mentioned, it does power the notebook). I have two PSUs too but it doesn't matter which one I use.
Checking the Batterys under the "Power -> Battery Information" I see that the batteries have cycle counts of 563 and 504. I believe that anything over 300 is not great. But could it be a battery problem if the batteries both charge on one macbook and not the other? If its a logic board problem I don't really want to invest any more money in the computer.

I was an early adopter of the MBA 1.0 and had to return it due to all the "Rev A" issues that plague Apple machines (just look at the new MBPs and MBs). The unit I had back then had about a 2-3 hours of use (vs. Apple's claimed 5) and it took FOREVER to fully charge the battery. Not to mention the core shut downs, ridiculously loud 6200 rpm fan, excessive heat, etc. etc.
I was wondering if any early 2.0 owners could comment on battery life or charging. Have they fixed this problem? Any 1.0 owners notice less batt. life now that Apple claims 4.5 and we have the nvidia chipset?
I'm sitting on the fence with trigger finger itching to get a new 1.8 SSD...

3 year old MacBook with logic board problems (battery not charging although when last seen it was fine with lots of life left) and keyboard issues (dead 3, e, d, and c keys. I am typing by stopping to click on those keys in Keyboard Viewer each time one of those comes up. Arrgh.)
Why not fix/replace now? I have decided to get a new MacBook Pro and have been waiting until the new ones come out. I'm getting impatient, and would like to have some idea of how long that will be. Any real ideas on that?
