Nov 2, 2010i am contemplating buying a late 2008 mbp air i found for $800 on CL. it has the 1.86 ghz 2gig ram and an 128 gb ssd. would that be comparable to the new 2010 version? i know the new one will edge it out, but by how much? i do a lot of art using flash, illustrator, and ps but just want to use this machine occasionally when i travel, ill have another machine for the heavy lifting if needed be. is that a good deal? or should i just wait and get the 2010 version which is double that?

Dec 29, 2010I just got a new macbook air, it was working fine for a couple of days until yesterday.
The battery seems to be stuck at 98% - or was. I rebooted because I started to lag, and was updating, then I unplugged it and plugged it back in, then it went down to 97%. What confuses me is the fact it had been plugged in (while shut off), for about 8 hours and it should have been charged by the time I got around to using it. When I right click on the battery icon, it says the computer is fully charged.

May 23, 2010I received my new 15", i7, 128gb ssd, 8gb ram macbook pro on april 19th. I love it and have no problems. Have any of you guys noticed that the full charge battery capacity, which is found under system profiler-power, varies often. When I first got the macbook pro the full charge capacity of the battery was around 6830. Now with each charge it seems to go down slowly. At first it jumped from 6800 to 6600 and now stays at around 6520. Is this normal?

Oct 2, 2009I am listening to the same songs on Itunes playing on a late 2008, Early 2009 Macbook Pro 15 compared to a brand new MBP 15 and the speakers (or the sound) seems much better on the older Pro still running Leopard (more base and deeper sound), as opposed to the new one running SL. Has anything changed that would account for this? Are they the same system running off of different operating systems, or has the hardware changed. And is there anything to do about it?

Mar 2, 2012I recently purchased a Late 2008 Unibody MacBook. I am thrilled! Yet I seem to be having the same charging issue MANY other people have had and have still not found a solution. Basically, as with everyone else, when I connected the Magsafe connector, it stays on finishing charge as if stuck there. I have left it for 2 full days and nights now with no luck. I have calibrated the battery and it is still doing it. The battery only shows 60 cycles and it's health it at 80%. I've even reset the SMC with no avail.

Jun 10, 2010I bought a 3rd party battery for my MBP. I put it in and after cycling the battery i noticed that the full charge capacity was only 3990mAh (supposed to be 5500mAh). I returned the battery today and got and an upgraded replacement. this shows the full charge capacity at 4995mAh (supposed to be 5600mAh).
is this normal. Do I just need to give it some time or is it something with the batteries.

Nov 11, 2009i just ordered a late 2008 macbook pro 15 with the dual GPUs (9400m and 9600m GT) and I'm a little worried about the battery life.
-What can I expect if just doing normal every day stuff (web surfing mostly?)
-does watching a movie off of the hard disk use less battery than watching it off a DVD? Is there a big difference?
I'm not a big gamer but would like to have the horsepower to play a game should one come out that I want. I'm also not a big traveler so battery times are only of average importance.
Basically, I'm asking if I made a good purchase considering I have only average concerns for both battery and game performance. They had the new 7 hour battery 15" macbook pro for the same price but it doesn't have the dual GPUs.

Jun 7, 2010I have a late 2008 MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard. and lately whenever i been running on battery, the computer has been randomly powering off. as it it losing all power, but it doesn't seem to matter what level the battery is at. but once i plug the AC adapter it, i do not have any kind of problem. i guess it could just be a dead battery.

Jul 19, 2010I'm running a late 2008 Macbook Pro with OS 10.6.4. The battery life is terrible. Like, in the hour and fifteen minute range on a full charge. I've tried turning everything off, wifi, bluetooth, screen brightness down and turned off the keyboard backlights. If I have no applications running, it will sometimes estimate a maximum of about two hours, but never actually give me more than about an hour and a half--if all I'm doing is surfing the net.
About three months ago I replaced the internal drive with a Hitatchi 500gb drive of the same RPM as the original (5400rpm). That's the only major modification to the machine I've made and the battery life was already a problem from starters. Does it sound like there's something wrong with the battery, or is it more likely there's something else causing problems?

MacBook :: Late 2006 Not Start Fully
Sep 18, 2010It's from late 2006, but the RAM (3GB) and HD (Western Digital 595GB) are not original. That said, I'm confident neither of these are the cause, as I've had 'em installed for 2 years and 4 months, respectively. The problem: I press the power button. Computer makes the starting sound. Fan whirs on. Grayish-blue screen with Apple logo. Spinning tick wheel underneath. You know the drill. But then, it just suddenly and inexplicably turns off. Fan off, black screen, no HD activity. Nothing. Aaand repeat...nothing seems to change.
This started 10 minutes ago. I'm on a friend's computer now, since I'm at college - this also means that I do not have my installation DVD or indeed any of my wide array of computer-fixing tech components save for my mini screwdriver set. Since I know it's gonna come up - The last thing I did on the computer was shut it down while it installed the latest update for Safari (which I don't use). Seemed everything was going okay - it turned off and I left for dinner, came back all set to write an essay and the darn thing won't make it to the login screen. So naturally, there are no error messages or anything like that. No weird beeps or noises from the HD or elsewhere........................

May 9, 2012I just bought a Mac Book pro 13 (last model) and I tried to use assistant migration to migrate everything from my old Mac Book (OS X LIon and updated), by ethernet connexion by cable, but the operation avorted twice. No interesting solution for the moment from the Apple Care telephone ahelp. They seem as bewildered as me.
I am looking for a solution in my old Mac, but before going in the Old Mac to see what's going wrong (I had done, though, the necessary adjustment, like deactivation of all applications opening automatically, never deactivate hard drive, unlink my computer to Dropbox etc..) I want to restore my new Mac Book Pro with its original features (without any trace of the precedent operation, or user accounts etc..)
SO: Is it better to format hard disk and restore original adjustments (as if I had just open the computer) or to use in Disk utilities the command "Reinstall Mac OS X and its application"?
I should think it is the first solution but I liked an advise from more clever folks than me.
Secondary question:Could the problem be because my new Mac Pro had been configured in the Apple Store with the same user account than the one on my old Mac (and same Apple ID)? Or is there other possibilities?

Jan 22, 2010I have one of these Macbooks that I want to pass on to the daughter of a friend for use in college. To try and extend its life and usefulness a little I was wondering if I could add more memory. I'm aware that the Apple tech specs state that 2GB of PC2-5300 DDR2 is the maximum supported, but since I have 2 x 2GB of that memory spare I was wondering if anyone here on the forums know different?
