I have a Mid 2009 MBP running with Lion. I've notice a message that says "Repair Battery" under system preferences/battery. I didnt noticed anything strange with my battery life, but I want to know if I have to do something.Â

My battery needed replacing for a couple of months before i dropped it from about knee level onto a sidewalk. After the drop I got the not charging icon. I thought maybe the battery had just finally died. so I did not panic about the no charge. The laptop works fine when plugged in to power with the old battery on or no battery at all. Not at all when unplugged.
When I put the brand new battery on the lap top, the computer shuts down halfway through boot up. I tried holding the power button down through boot up reset, as well as removing all power (plug and battery) and holding down the power button for 10 seconds reset.
My screen suddenly went dark. I was connected and at 100%, however, now the battery is not charging. The system report says that there is no battery installed. I am hearing "white noise" also.

Looking into getting a SSD 128GB for my 2009 uMB but I am wondering if that helps extend your battery life because I am getting 3.5 to 4 Hours on a single charge now. I just wonder if I can get more than 5 hours out of the battery with an SSD, then I can use the external drive for everything else but OS and Applications.

View 3 Replies View RelatedSo I calibrated my battery last night in hopes of bumping up it's longevity, but with no success. Right now I'm at 100% charged, at exactly 50% brightness, Word and Powerpoint open, with the usual browsing. No music or video playing etc. The time remaining is approximately 4 hours. I checked coconutbattery and it says that the capacity is 100% with 201 cycles and 7 month age. Why is it not showing 5:30 to 6 hours (sometimes even 6:30) like it did only 2-3 weeks ago. Shouldn't the calibration help the longevity of the battery?

the other night my girlfriends white 2009 Macbook (was updated to lion) stopped recognizing the battery. Only would boot when plugged into AC. I have other Macs so I tried different power adapters and switching in a battery that I knew was charged from another Macbook, and still did not recognize. Both batteries show 80% full or more when button pressed on battery. I moved it to my office to debug, requiring that I shut down and move the power cord. Then when I booted up, it started shutting down 10 seconds after reboot to user screen. I did the SMC reset and the PRAM resets, did Safe mode checking. Mac would still not "see" the battery or stay on for more then a few seconds even on AC. I then used the Snow Leopard install DVD and disc utilities, did a complete erase of the hard drive and reinstall of the Snow Leopard DVD. That took around 30 minutes, and the Macbook stayed on the entire time during reinstall. 1st boot after reinstall, stayed on long enogh to "set up" a user, then the shutdown problems appeared again. Â
Not entirely sure, as the power light on the front has been faulty for over a year, so i can not see if it is "on", but if I plug in a thimb drive, the thumb drive light blinks as if it is getting poweer, I would think thta means the computer is on, maybe the display is just shutting off? I do not have the original install discs, just the Snow Leopard 10.6.3 install DVD and a Lion install thumb drive, how can I do a AHT?Â

The Apple one looks tempting as it comes with 6 batteries and 29€ isn't too much, plus, as usual, it looks brilliant. I looked at some 3rd party chargers as well ranging from 20€ to 40€. None of them was stunning or special by any means. Cheaper ones usually came with two or four batteries and some came without batteries. I don't really need it for else than Magic Mouse, occasionally for something else too.

View 7 Replies View RelatedNow normally I wouldn't expect it in an under 4 year old machine, but the normal battery is working as expected. However, when I'm not plugged into power, my WiFi doesn't always reconnect, and when it does, the internet doesn't seem to connect either 90% of the time. When I'm plugged into power, no problem. 3 other machines on the same wireless network have no issues with it, though my cable company says they are detecting intermittent signal loss, which I can't reproduce on any other machine. The other reason I believe it is the PRAM battery and not the main battery, is during one reboot, the date reset itself to year 2000. Once I managed to reconnect the internet, I was able to set the date & time to the time server.

My dad bought a macbook pro a few days ago and he deleted some things; iphoto and photobooth to name a few. I told him to go to system preferences and he gets an error message saying something about 'system preferences may be damaged' And it does not open. Is there a way to fix this? He has the snow leopard installation disks etc.

Fun project for a cold Sunday afternoon. 5 hrs I have one issue with the MB and that is the charging of the battery. The battery icon sometimes shows 'no battery' or if it shows a battery is recognized, it isn't charging. The LED on the mag-safe charger is always green. The battery is from the water damaged 2.16 and my thinking is that it may have suffered damage from being exposed to water. Original owner left the MB in the backyard and it started to rain!

Hardly the quoted 7 hours that Apple spec, and I am simply doing light web browsing, nothing else.Am I doing something wrong? The machine sits connected to magsafe 90% of the time, but I cannot envisage that would cause any problem, as it knows when it is charged, so afaik no more current can get to the battery to damage it

When I plugged it in this morning, it took 3 hours to charge all the way, and now it's stuck on 99% full, 0:00 till completely charged, and I'm getting an error when I click on the battery in the menu bar that says "Service Battery". When I click on the error, it tells me that it may not be functioning properly and to take it to an authorized apple service retailer. Before I waste 2 hours by going to the Apple store and back, has anyone else had this problem, and is there a way to fix it without having it looked at?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI get the whole part about that I set my laptop to go to sleep in 5 minutes, and if I close the lid it'll go to sleep, and the little light at the bottom starts to pulse, etc. But in sleep mode, my battery seems to drain extremely fast!
For my old Gateway M275 laptop while in sleep mode, it would probably lose about 5-7% of it's battery in a day's duration. With my MacBook Air, I just came back to it tonight after a day's worth of sleeping, and my battery was down to 16% from 29%. And to check, it was indeed sleeping!

I was still getting a pretty good amount of time off of one charge so I wasn't too worried. This past Saturday morning, I woke up, checked the battery indicator lights on my computer (it had been sleeping since the day before) and it said it had about 60% percent so I opened it. I was on the Internet for about 10 minutes before it shut off without warning.
It wouldn't turn back on when I pressed the power button, so I plugged it in and it turned back on. When I checked, the battery status was "replace now." After using it, I turned it back off and left for NYC for the weekend and didn't bring it with me. When I got home last night, I plugged it in and tried turning it on with no luck. The battery indicator light was flashing one light, so I just assumed it would need to charge for a bit before it would turn back on. After about two hours, when I went to bed, it still was flashing just one light. I kept it plugged in over night, and this morning when I checked it, the battery indicator lights showed that it was fully charged, but it still wouldn't turn on. I still kept it plugged in throughout the day just in case, but it still won't turn on even though all the lights are lit. Is the battery just showing me false information, or should I be worried about more than just the battery?

purchased a macbook Unibody back in October 2008 when they were released and use it heavily. The battery no longer holds a nice long charge - I get about 2 to 2.5 hours out of a full charge.
The battery has 149 cycles on it, which is obviously high (and correct, I use the hell out of it). With it still being in warranty, is it worth pursuing a replacement battery? Will Apple tell me to go take a hike with the high cycle counts?
i just ordered a late 2008 macbook pro 15 with the dual GPUs (9400m and 9600m GT) and I'm a little worried about the battery life.
-What can I expect if just doing normal every day stuff (web surfing mostly?)
-does watching a movie off of the hard disk use less battery than watching it off a DVD? Is there a big difference?
I'm not a big gamer but would like to have the horsepower to play a game should one come out that I want. I'm also not a big traveler so battery times are only of average importance.

the unit (battery) has been replaced previously due to being considered 'under performing'. Is Snow Leopard trying to encurate it's users to replace the battery more frequently? If not, does anyone know why this appears? I'm at lost, since it appears to work fine, if not charging completely.
I'm not sure if this is SL related, but I get the service battery warning when I click on the battery status. iStat reports it at 62% health. Rev B 1.6 just 6months old. Should I bring it to apple or is it just a bug of SL?
