MacBook :: Mouse Pad Randomly Selects Items Eg. Links, Text, Pictures And Drags, Opens Or Deletes Them?

May 2, 2012

I believe the mouse pad is hypersensitive, but it also will click on items when nothing is near the laptop. Eg. I'm no where near it and it will play/pause/change the song in itunes.

ITunes :: Randomly Deletes Music Numbers?

Jun 6, 2012

Sometimes one song in the middle of a cd is missing, and sometimes a single just disappears. The weird thing is that the name and albumcover is still there, but the music file is not. The original file in the music library is gone, and a lot of it is music i bought in itunes.

Also, i keep getting less and less space on my harddrive. It's like it's automatically filling up, allthough I'm not filling it with anything.

Could it be the solid state drive that's dying?

ICloud :: Randomly Deletes IMac Address Book?

Mar 20, 2012

I don't understand how this happened, but I don't have a Time Machine backup because I have never had enough space to back everything up.  Is there any way to get my Address Book back?  I have searched for .vcf and .abbu files, but cannot find what I need to restore.

I set up iCloud between my iMac and my iPad.  Never in my wildest dreams did I think it would delete everything off of my iMac in favor of the few contacts I had on the iPad.

Software :: Text Accidentally Highlights And Deletes

Dec 30, 2009

Working from OS 10.4.11 on PowerBook G4, iMac G5, and (early) MacBook. Have noticed while working in Entourage 2004, and possibly in other applications, not sure, that from time to time while typing I will accidentally press a key with my right hand, some key in the vicinity of the 'return' key, which will cause a contiguous string of text to be highlighted and deleted. It happens so quickly that I can never tell which key(s) I pressed to make this happen.

I think what actually happens is that the accidental keypress is causing the highlighting and then as I continue to type the highlighted text is of course deleted.

I can recover from this (once I notice it) by pressing command-z, but would like to prevent it from happening as I can lose other edits done before I notice the accidental deletion. If I knew what keystroke is responsible I might be able to disable it, or at least knowing might help me to avoid it.

I've done many google searches and have found nothing relevant. Have also searched these forums and the archive of MacFixIt forums and have found nothing.

Safari :: Only Opens Links By Bouncing Them To The Reading List?

Mar 30, 2012

As of today, Safari only opens links by bouncing them to the reading list. I have to go find them in there and click on them again to view the link. Why are the links not opening directly in the browser window, the way you'd expect? I haven't changed any prefs or anything like that. I'm on Lion.

Safari :: 5.1.2 Keeps Changing Text Field Randomly On Text Input

Feb 21, 2012

Safari keeps changing the text field on input, do you know how to correct this issue?

Here is an example:

Let's say I load www.google.com, it appears in the safari window as usual.

Suppose I begin to type a search in the google search field at the top right of the safari window (not the one on the google page)

if when doing this the sentence is long for the search, at some point randomly, the rest of the text will be entered this time in the google search text field on the google page! (which is the very next text field) So when I hit enter it makes google search half of my request...

Safari changed the text field I was into with no warning. I want to say I do not press tab at any moment. This is annoying really, and this does not appear anywhere else than in Safari. It seems the issue is not systematic, but appears quite often.

I have no universal access setting except "enable access for assistive device" I had to check this box upon installing a software in the past but I can't remember what it was.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Login Items Randomly Disappearing

Jun 19, 2012

I've exercised MANY different outlets for solving this problem. I am stumped beyond belief why this keeps happening. Frankly I'm also a little pissd as well becasue I have to recreate my login items through system preferences almost daily as a result of this "bug". Here's the 411. I have about 10 items I want to start upon login. Those apps are things like Safari, 1Password, Osfoora etc. I created the login items through system preferences and used the "+" sign to add each one. Upon booting my Mac back up the next day they're gone. With the exception of Dropbox which usually always remains there. I have NO idea why this keeps happening. I've tried the ways other people on this community have suggested such as trashing the preference .plist file etc. I personally have right clicked on that preference file and changed it to read only, locked the file and nothing works.

MacBook :: Black 2.4 Trackpad Jumps/drags Not Responsing?

I've been searching the net for a solution but no luck. I have a late 08 Black Macbook 2.4ghz and the trackpad feels extremely rough. It does not look worn out one bit, but i have to press pretty hard and "push" the cursor. On the other hand my girlfriend has the same model in white and here trackpad feels like silk.

Whats the best solution for this? Is replacing the entire top case my only fix?

MacBook Pro :: Mouse On Randomly Moves From Center Of Screen To Bottom?

Sep 29, 2009

So I love my 1 1/2 month old 13inch MBP.

The thing is that recently at random times throughout my day when I'm, using my Mac...my finger will be on the glass trackpad and i'll be doing something like say surfing the web or using w/e application...Well, randomly the mouse on the screen will disappear from its current location, say for example on Firefox's toolbar, immediately to the bottom of the screen. It's never the top of the screen, or the sides since it normally just causes the dock to rise up...

I'm really concerned to see what's going on here. I rarely had this problem with my old Whitebook, though admittedely did happen a few times.

Perhaps a water spill/damage? Though consider to have been very careful with my new Mac. I'm sure the glass trackpad on these new Macbook Pro's has water damage sensors right? Anyway I can see it/observe it myself.

I used to love taking apart my old whitebook but these new MBP's seem impossible; that or i'm just too scared since I do love how the machine was built.

OS X :: Hover Mouse Over Links - Multiple Tabs Opened

Jan 23, 2010

If I hover my mouse over a link in Safari, it will start opening multiple tabs of that link without me clicking it until I hover off it. It also opens programs if I hover over it for about a second. This started happening this morning. It was fine last night. I didn't download any updates in that time, and didn't change any system preferences. I tried restarting my system. This happens with both my wireless mouse and the trackpad, so I figured it's a software issue. Could it be a virus? What Mac program checks for/ gets rid of viruses?

MacBook Pro :: Bluetooth Randomly Stops Working / Magic Mouse Does Not Respond

Jun 26, 2014

bluetooth on my 2013 MBP. I have a magic mouse and it randomly stops responding. At first I thought it was a problem with the mouse itself. I changed the batteries,To solve the problem and to get the mouse to work again, I have to actually restart my computer.

Then I realized that when my magic mouse acts up, if I open the Bluetooth preferences, in the spot where the name of my computer should be is this weird message that says "do not localize, name not available" So I've finally realized that the problems I'm having aren't with the mouse but actually the Bluetooth in the computer, either it's a hardware issue with the Bluetooth hardware or the driver is defective. Again, when I restart, I'm able to use my magic mouse again. And when Bluetooth is acting up, when I do try to open Bluetooth preferences, I get the beach ball and everything starts to hang.

I'm attaching pictures of what the Bluetooth preferences screen shows under normal operation with the name of my MBP and showing the mouse is connected and a picture of what the Bluetooth preferences window shows when it's acting up.  Is the Bluetooth defective?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Mouse Randomly Moves Around And Clicks

Mar 14, 2012

Ok, so ive had this problem for a few months now and it has led me to the point where my mac was in storage and i havent touched it in a month or two. What happens is no matter what i am doing my mouse will move around the screen clicking randomly and basically doing whatever it wants. i have looked into the problem and other people have similiar issues but not the same. i can be across the room from my mac with the screen on, and the mouse will still move around and click and open countless folders even though no one at all is even near the computer. today when i took the mac out to see if there was a software update available (which there was) the mouse was not moving around or jumping at all througout the entire update. After the update it is now yet again jumpin around and clicking wherever it wants. Also its not just once in a while it is 24/7 it has made my mac unable to be used because you cant really control the mouse for more than a second at a time. my whole screen is now full of untitled folders..

Hardware :: Magic Mouse Not Allowing Me To Hold And Drag Windows/items?

Jul 7, 2010

Ok so just recently ive been having this weird problem with my magic mouse.

Everytime i hold down the left side of the mouse to drag a window or a file for example, it doesnt seem to actually 'hold on', and instead the cursor just carries on moving around as normal. Occasionally it will 'hold on' for a split second or two, but then lets go and drops the window/file etc i am trying to move, even while i still have the left side of the mouse pressed down.

Anybody have any ideas what this could be?

The mouse is only a few weeks old and ive checked for dirt on the sensor, but it all appears to be clean

Hardware :: Apple's New Magic Mouse Disassembled With Pictures

Oct 22, 2009

The world's first multi-touch mouse, Apple's new Magic Mouse, has been pulled apart from all of the glue that holds it together, allowing a glimpse at its internal components. The new Magic Mouse has a solid acrylic surface on a low-profile body. It lacks any physical buttons or the scroll ball of its predecessor, the Mighty Mouse. Instead, the hardware senses the movement of fingertips across its surface, in a multi-touch fashion much like the technology employed in Apple's iPhone, iPod touch, MacBook and MacBook Pro lines. iFixit's look inside found an aluminum base covered by a smooth multi-touch panel. Inside, the hardware is held together by "copious mounts" of glue. It was disassembled with an iPod opening tool. "The glue didn't want to let go, but we overpowered it with the flick of our magic wand," the solutions provider said. "Screws would have been a lot easier to get apart (and much nicer to put back together)." Most of the hardware's weight comes its two AA batteries (47 grams). The plastic weighs in at 37 grams, while the inside is just 10 grams. A single ribbon cable connects the top of the mouse to its internal board, and orange capacitive touch sensors line the translucent top to track individual finger movements. iFixit found that the mouse's entire surface, from the Apple logo up, is covered with capacitive touch sensors.

Currently, the Magic Mouse requires a software patch for the multi-touch functionality to work with Mac OS X. But the forthcoming release of Mac OS X 10.6.2 is said to have native support for the new hardware. The solutions provider said that the average mouse board weighs in at 0.4 grams, while the Magic Mouse's "brain" is 9 grams. The mouse uses a Broadcom BCM2042A4KFBGH Bluetooth chip to wirelessly communicate with a desktop machine. Broadcom advertises the chip as a "low cost component" that allows manufacturers to create new hardware at the same price points as older mice with less features. "Apparently Apple missed that memo," iFixit said of the $69 mouse. Disassembly of the new hardware is not recommended, as the sheer amount of glue holding it together would be difficult to repair once pulled apart. "Another mouse killed in the name of science," they said. "We didn't break anything, but gluing it back together will be challenging." For the full disassembly process, view the entire article at iFixit. [ View this article at AppleInsider.com ]
