I wanted to use a lavalier mic for a video conference, but when I plug the mic in to the MacBook Pro (late 17" 10.9.3) I get no playback from Garage band or other recording apps until I unplug the mic. I have tried a Rode lav and a Sennheiser mic for DSLRs. Am I missing something, or is there a problem with the computer?

I have looked through other forums, and my microphone is working fine.
So I bought a Sony Bloggie camera, and sprang for the extra $20 for the 360 video recording attachment. So sony touts on their website how great this camera and their software plays with Mac and PC, the truth is only the mobile dumbed down version of their software works on a Mac. The full version is PC only. unfortunately the full version is needed in order to convert and watch videos shot with the 360 attachment.
Fine no problem thats why man invented VMWARE. So I install the software on my windows XP virtual machine with XP sp3. The software converts the video but whenever I try to watch it the thing crashes and I get that report error to microsoft message. So my question is, are there any alternatives I can use preferably on Mac which will play the 360 video? I know a lot of websites have 360 virtual tour videos embedded.
I have a Bose speaker system connected to my Audio Out port of my mid-'10 Macbook Pro but I can no longer control the volume: System Preferences has the sound controls set to the maximum but the sound output is weak and the microphone icon at the top of the display is grayed out (but shows it at maximum when I click on it). Apparently, then, the sound is only coming out of the laptop. How do I get it to go out of the audio out port through my Bose Companion 2 and be adjustable?

The speaker on the top of my screen is muted and I cannot get any sound out of the internal speakers. When I try to raise or lower the volume there is a circle with a line through it underneadth the speaker level window that pops up and everything seems frozen. I've checked online to find a solution and did see a red light in the headphone jack. So I plugged back in headphones and a USB and pulled out the headphones, the red light went off but I still see no option for internal speakers in my Sound preferences. What do I do? I'm trying to avoid a trip to the apple store...
View 1 Replies View RelatedSince a couple of days I'm noticing a popping sound during audio playback through my external speakers. That means when playing back a video or music through iTunes, basically always when there's audio playing. I'm in the process of figuring out if it also happens on my regular integrated speakers.
My MBP is the recently released 15" Core i7 model. Only thing I changed is I added an Intel SSD.
Any thoughts as to what it can be? Or where to start looking for a solution?
The output sound is suddenly really quiet. I have to turn it all the way up to hear anything all all sometimes. My iTunes seems fine and my notification sounds work, but playing videos is seriously sketchy (from YouTube, Hulu, Facebook, wherever).

I changed from Windows to Mac (MacBook pro) as I was told time and time again that Macs are much better when it comes to audio and video editing.Since I got the Mac I have been learning about different programs and which program would be able to do what I need it to do, but I have no luck in finding a solution, therefore, I decided it?s time to come to the forum and seek some help.I will explain what I used to do in windows and would like to do the same in mac therefore I would appreciate any info on what programs I need to get and if I need to buy any external sound cards for mac (if they exist) or recording sound mixers?
View 2 Replies View Relatedso i bought an imic since i heard it was suppose to work.i plug in my microphone jac into the IN, switch the imic thing to mic, and my microphone still doesn't work.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an SM57 mic, a presonus firebox interface and a macbook with garage band. I have everything set up as it should be but when I try to record with all the recording inputs on full the recording is still SO quiet to the point I can barely hear it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy external mike (Samson C01U, USB connection) isn't working; there's no input sound coming through. I'm certain it's not a hardware problem with the mike On preferences > sound, there's no sign of any input (with input volume level turned right up). Trying to record on Camtasia / Audacity / Quicktime also isn't giving any input.

I tried to record some audio (voice) with garageband earlier this day and it didn't work! I have a built in microphone that is working fine, it tested it (mac OS X, version 10.5.8) and my input volume level is turned up (system preferences). I tried to record with isight (imovie) and can record a video, but no sound eighter. I've been able to record in the past with garageband so i haven't a single clue what happened.

I am new to this forum and have only just brought a MacBook. I transferred video from my mini dv camcorder to my pc using firewire. The data was recorded as an avi. These avi videos play fine my on pc (in windows media player and real player-with sound). However, on my mac, the video is displayed but no sound. The video is played, but there is no sound (just crackling). I have tried realplayer, quicktime, divx and vlc. I have downloaded perian, but this has made no difference. In quicktime, the video is displayed, but no sound. In VLC, there is video, with crackling sound. I have about eight videos and none of them have sound on the mac.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI use my quicktime and built-in isight on my macbook to make video chats and email them to my relatives. The audio in my recording hace a "cricket like sound" in the backround. This does not appear when I just do an audio recording. Only when I do a video recording. I use the built in microphone. I've adjusted the microphone settings in the system preferences still with the same result.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am not sure how to describe it properly, but since 10 minutes ago, my trackpad on my 13"mbp has been making a weird clicking sound. Normally, it makes a click which is regular, just like the store units/how it should be, however for the last 10 minutes the BOTTOM RIGHT CORNER ONLY makes a weird longer noise which I cannot properly describe. its almost like a rattling noise, or something that sounds like its breaking. had this mbp since july this year, and i do have apple care (got it on student discount price!!
Just wondering if you know what the problem is, Or if it is going to be a problem/if trackpad may be breaking Or if I rang apple/took instore what would they do. Reason why I havent immediately took it in is because if MBP could get new processors soon, I could take it in after refresh in the small chance I get a new computer replacement..........
I want to know if anyone can point out the advantages and disadvantages of using a line-in microphone (for the 1/8" analog jack) compared to a USB microphone for a Mac Pro. Do I need some kind of amplification for a head-set microphone with a 1/8 analog jack? I can't get mine to work, but I wonder if there's something I haven't selected correctly in my Preferences.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo the other day I booted up into OS X and was going to make a short video in Photo Booth with my friend. I recorded a video, but when I tried to play it back there was no sound. I tried recording another video, this time yelling at the top of my lungs. This time when I played it back, I could hear my yelling very faintly. I decided to open up the System Preferences to see if the microphone was picking up any sound. The input level showed that there was a little bit of static, but the bar barely moved when I yelled. I opened up Skype and called "echo123" to see if Skype was picking up and sound. After the call recorded my sound, it played it back and to my surprise it sounded perfect.
It was like my microphone didn't have a single problem. I then opened up Photo Booth again and the System Preferences to see if it would pick up and sound from my microphone. And once again it would only barely pick up sound when I was yelling. After a few minutes, I finally decided I'd take my MacBook to the Apple Store. But before that, I decided I'd just try a little trick that worked on my iPod earbuds when one of them wasn't working correctly. I flicked my finger against the plastic right next to where the microphone is above the screen. I opened up System Preferences and to my amazement my microphone was now working perfectly!
I plugged in my microphone into the mic port on the left side of the computer. I am trying to use it for my Ustream feed but it is not recognizing it.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI opened up Photo Booth to record a video for YouTube today and realized that I had recorded my self for 7 minutes for almost no reason.
Photo Booth doesn't seem to be detecting my microphone at all, because when I play the clip i recorded, there is no sound. My speakers are on, trust me.
Also, other audio recording applications, such as Screenflow and Audacity are able to pick up the microphone easily.
I've ran the application with nothing else running and get the same result.
I have a stereo microphone with a jack of ~6 mm and I bought a converter to 3.5mm but.. it does not seem to fit into the socket, I dont want to push harder to break anything there. Even if it fitted I still dont know if it would need additional software. Does anyone know how to connect it?
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen running windows 7 x64 my microphone does not work. I have tried on both Skype and AIM. I can hear my friends but they cannot hear me. When I log into OSX it works fine.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI play a lot of video games on the internet but my connection is not great around 512kbs. I am trying to reduce the sample rate of the microphone from 44k to 22k to use less bandwith when I talk to other players. I always break up when I talk. There is no option to do that in the sound settings. Is there a way to do it? I have a macbook pro 15' 2.5 ghz intel 2 core duo. With 3gb of Ram.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an unibody aluminium MacBook. (The 13 inch model - before Apple changed the specs and re-released it as a "MacBook Pro").
I've been trying to narrate a voiceover in iMovie today, and the sound quality from the internal microphone is terrible! Muffled and ringing machine noise in the background. I've tried changing settings. I've tried running it off the battery instead of the power supply - in case it was related in interference from the power supply. I've tried different software. GarageBand and Audacity. Oh - and the fan wasn't running when I tried to record stuff.
The thing is - I remember the internal Microphone working much better before. I've made a couple of things for YouTube, and I didn't have a problem then.
Is it plausible that the Microphone has gone wrong now? Is this a known issue with the aluminium MacBook (Pro)?
- If an external Microphone would solve things - is there anything I should know about what kind to buy? I don't want to invest in anything expensive - I don't use it enough. I know that Apple's sound-out jack is designed for specialised headphones. (Although normal headphones sometimes work if you wiggle them a bit). Is there anything unusual about the sound input jack?
I bought a MacBook Pro I'm happy with the purchase.
But, I am having trouble using the microphone integrated into the Facebook chat.

I have a 17" Macbook Pro from Jan 2012 and I can't get an external microphone to work. Initially I tried a cheap Sony microphone with no luck. So purchased logitech headphones. They have 2 jacks, one headphones, one microphone. I've tried it with Word for Mac and Quicktime (selecting line-in)

I am just looking for a little help with my Early 08 white Macbook. It is running 10.6 just in case you were wondering. But the problem I am having is that I can not get a microphone to work on the damn thing. I have tried 2 different microphones on it, both in through the line in and I have tried line out too and neither of them worked. When I go into system preferences and hit sounds and go to line-in it says it dosn't pick anything up.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo the internal microphone on my 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro just decided to stop working a few months ago. In the sound tab of system preferences I get nothing. Although when Skyping with it, the person I'm talking to says they can hear some kind of noise when I tap the left speaker (where I assume the mic is at.) I didn't use it all that much but it was pretty handy for when I needed to record a spontaneous song with my guitar. It had rather good quality.
