May 31, 2009is it normal for a macbook, to get really hot when it empties out the recycle bin irretrievably? And is it normal that it takes a long time?

IMac (Intel) :: Mail Empties And Reloads Inbox On Every Launch
Jun 1, 2014On MacBook Pro Retina, running, OS X 10.9.3, this problem recently started to occur:
Upon launching Apple Mail. the InBox will briefly display the messages in the mailbox, then clear the messges and reload from the mail server. Depending on the number of messages in the Inbox, this can take some time.
This only occurs if an internet connection is available. Otherwise, the mail stays put.
I have tried deleting and recreating both the mail server mailbox and the Apple Mail account (not at the same time), without success.

Jan 17, 2010I have an application in my recycle bin that won't go away! It is insisting that it's in use. I've tried restarting my computer a couple times and have had no success.
Is there some way to tell what's using a particular file or something? Or perhaps some way to force the recycle bin to empty? It's really getting annoying.

Jun 8, 2009As I was trashing folders and apps and other stuff while looking for an answer to my Dock problems, I discovered that Trash doesn't seem to act the same way my old PC recycle bin did. There is no function to restore anything; rather, it seems you just open the trashed item. (Also seems that you don't delete in Finder, you just "move to the Trash," is that the same?) Can you trash a program App and simply change your mind and reinstall it from the Trash?

Mac Mini :: 2009 - Recycle Superdrive As External Usb Drive?
Mar 21, 2009I am going to remove the Superdrive from my 2009 mini and replace it with a second HD as detailed by ifixit [URL] I will then run OS X from the X-25M SSD and the second drive will be a 320Gb Scorpio Black which I will run XP in boot camp from ( have to use additional internal drive to boot XP from since the X25-M currently will not work with XP and I cant get XP to boot from an external drive...). This leaves my setup without a way to work with optical media so I was looking to get an external usb drive and plug it in whenever I would need to install something from a dvd, or burn a cd etcetera.
Instead of throwing away the removed superdrive though and buy another drive, how about recycling it as an external usb superdrive? I would connect it via usb with a Deltaco sata to usb adapter I have. Anyone see a reason why this would not work? Has this been done before?

I have had dropbox application and removed it, and now want to remove the dropbox folder I tried resetting the PRAM as it was expressed in one of the topics but it didn't work the files are stuck in the trash and when I go to empty my trash it just gets me emptying and doesn't want to move further than that.

Jun 6, 2010My names Mike and I'm quite a computer savvy person. I've usually always been able to fix my own computer problems, but I'm stumped this time. I've been using iTunes since iTunes 4.0 was released. I love it (just about the only Mac product I do like). Anyway, I like a clean computer, rid of music I don't like/listen to. Usually I just delete a song or 2 within the library and I always got 2 dialog boxes. Basically, 1. Asking me if I'm sure I want to delete it and 2. To keep the files or move to the recycle bin.
Well, recently, up to the new iTunes release 9.1.0.79, every time I delete a file from the library, I only get dialog box number 1, and not number 2. So it only deletes the file from the library, not the hard drive. So I've had to personally go into the folder and delete it I've tried to do some research myself, and it appears for the second dialog box to show it's face, the file you're deleting must be in the iTunes folder... well, that's ruled out. All my music is auto-organized by iTunes within it's own folder.

Jun 28, 2010So last December my laptop got smashed and everything works except for the backlit screen. In fact I can still use this laptop it is just extremely hard since the screen does not light up. The person that smashed it ended up buying me a new laptop so I have this beat up (and I mean the shell is destroyed) laptop with quite a lot of functioning parts.
Now a few weeks ago my girlfriends Grandad spilled a beer on his brand new 2010 Macbook. The logic board is shot so it is almost cheaper for him to buy a brand new laptop.
Would it be possible for me to take the logic board out of my 2008 Black Macbook and put it into his 2010 White Macbook?

The latest Macbook Pro 13" 2.4 Ghz gets 33 FPS in Call of Duty 4, whereas the Macbook Air 13" (using the same 320M GPU) gets 40 FPS. Even the 1.4Ghz 11" gets 37! So obviously we're not talking about a CPU limited game - the only explanation then is that the GPU in the Macbook Air is clocked differently than in the 13" Macbook Pro, no?

Again the Macbook Air clocked at 2.13 ghz is beating the 2.4 Ghz Macbook Pro in World of Warcraft and Portal! And in WOW the 11" 1.4ghz still manages to beat the 2.4 Ghz 13" Macbook Pro.
Anyone have any additional insight into this? Anand did a terrible job of testing these for gaming performance, unfortunately, so he may not have even noticed this trend.

Jul 11, 2009I just upgraded my daughter from last year's MacBook to a new 2009 MacBook Pro (my mother will get her old one) by cloning the drive using SuperDuper. Everything works fine except it doesn't detect the audio hardware in the OS. I see that the new macbook pro has different audio hardware according to system profiler. Is there a way to copy the driver off the install DVD or should I just go ahead and reinstall everything.

Apr 24, 2008I just bought a macbook as a replace for my five year old iBook. I was planning on purchasing a second power adapter. I like the size and more rugged connector on the Macbook Air power adapter.
I have searched around and it sounds like the Air adapter will work with a MacBook but I am not completely convinced. I understand that this adapter will only charge or power the unit but not both.
Has anyone tried their Air adapter on a MacBook? Could an Air owner tell me the voltage and current rating (outputs) on their adapter?

Hardware :: Macbook Vs Mini For Desktop / Macbook Power Usage / Operation Closed
Apr 15, 2009I'm putting a computer in my kitchen that anybody in the house can use (kids & parents). It will be hooked up to a 24" LCD and also act as a small file server, dvd player and perhaps eyetv dvr.
I like the mini because it is small (can hide in the cabinet where spills won't get it), is cheap and uses only 13W when idle. But when I think down the road, 4 year old laptops seem a lot more useful than 4 year old mac minis. So I'm a bit torn.
So my questions are:
- Does anybody know how much power the macbook uses when "idle" (just running finder).
- Can the macbook be run with the lid closed? (I know old powerbooks used to vent hot air through the keyboard.)
(Then again, I have the computer in the kitchen so I can watch my kids on the computer. In 4 years they'll be 5 years old and probably want a laptop they could have in their own room - exactly what I want to avoid. And I'll probably upgrade my macbook pro by then anyway.)
