View 6 RepliesOk, so you know when you have several windows open and they only show up at the dock when they are minimized?
I'd actually like to keep them all showing at the dock whether they are minimized or now.
How do I accomplish this?
This might seem really counterintuitive, but I don't want minimized windows to show up in my dock - being able to grab them with expos is enough. Is there any way to do this?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm a long time windows and linux user, just starting with Tiger. My most common frustration so far is that in Windows and Linux, I can have multiple windows open and non-minimized, and can easily switch between them via the task bar. I don't see a similar functionality in os-x. It appears to me that the only items that show on the dock are ones that I've minimized. If an app is open, but 'behind' another in Tiger, it appears I have to use Expose' to find it. In the other two OSes, I can just single click on the item in the status bar. Is there a way to single click to an open app that does not have the focus? This is pretty big...I always have lots of things running, and the task bar is a ONE CLICK way to switch.
Expose' seems to be a minimum of a two click way, and a pretty clunky way.
I'd love someone to explain what I'm sure is a simple way to have the same simplicity in os-x.
The dock has been minimized- why? We want it back to readable size! How?

Is there away to maximize a minimized window thats on the dock with just using keys? for example you can do this with alt-tab in windows but when you do that in mac it only will open up windows that are not minimized.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been searching for a keystroke to restore an application or a window of an application that I've minimized (Command-M) to the Dock. My search has not been successful.
With some applications Command-1 will work, but not often.
I'm wondering if there is a standard key combination to do this. If not, I know I can create a user keyboard shortcut, but I don't know how to create the black diamond character or if that would even work.
I've noticed that in Snow Leopard when you minimize, for example a Quick Time movie to the Dock, the movie doesn't carry on playing like it used to. Instead it shows a freeze-frame of the last part of the movie before it was minimized. It's not an important feature but I was wondering about the reason for this change.
View 3 Replies View RelatedYesterday in school this girl had a Windows laptop and we were sitting close to each other in the hall. I noticed she was deleting files and after a few (I think big movie files) Windows told her it was too big to fit in the trash and asked her if she wanted to delete it permanently.

In short, when I go to the "hot corner" that is assigned "all windows" I want it to show maximized and minimized windows all at once.
Sometimes (not always but easy enough to reproduce) when I minimize windows (especially MS Word) and then activate expose to see everything the minimized windows look like this. I've got a completely clean install (no migration assistant etc) of SL 10.6.2 on a 13inch MBP. It's not really a huge problem just curious if anyone else has experienced this? I'm hoping it might disappear in 10.6.3 but I'm sure that is a long shot
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhenever I minimize a window in Safari it disappears, rather than show the minimized window on the dashboard. It never used to do that. When I click on the yellow minimizing button, the genie effect brings it to the Safari icon on the dock. From there, it seems to have disappeared.

On my MacBook Pro (Late 2007, Discrete, Snow Leopard), Adobe Photoshop CS5 keeps removing itself from my dock for no reason. I'll drag the app to my dock and within about 5 seconds, the app simply disappears from the dock. I have tried dragging it back multiple times, restarting my computer, etc, but it always disappears within about 5 seconds.

Um, a few weeks ago[2 wks to be exact], i went overseas. Upon coming back, I on-ed my imac and found something very weird. There were icons at the bottom of my screen appearing to be a '?'. At that point of time I didn't know how to make em appear normal, thus i moved em to the thrash. I tried to open it earlier when it was a "?" but it wun open. However, what I didn't know and which was a careless mistake, i moved my microsoft office[entourage, word, ppt, i moved em into one folder] into the thrash as it appeared to be a question mark. However, when i checked the thrash, i saw no such folder... How do i fix this?
I can't get any of the apps off the dock. I've tried clicking and dragging them outside the dock and a little cloud of smoke appears near the mouse cursor. But then, When I release the app, it just pops back to the dock. I have tried dragging it to the trash too.
I want to get rid of the pop-up labels which appear when you mouse over dock icons. I've routed around in the dock plist, and found that I can achieve this for items that are permanently in my dock by just blanking their 'file-label' string in the dock plist, but was wondering if there is a way to do this for all items in the dock?
I've tried adding every logical 'key' to the plist file, I can think of, with a false boolean value, but to no luck. I'm pretty new to OS X.
Having issues with removing the Handbrake icon from the dock? I've tried dragging it to the desktop space to remove, but it keeps bouncing back.

I would like to move my windows partition from a shared disk with OS X & Windows7 to its own drive. I have true image so that should be easy. I have 2 questions1 Do I need to run bootcamp setup on the new drive before cloning?2 On the old windows partition that I would like to turn into a OS X partition can I just reformat that partition to wipe out windows or is there another step. The other half of the drive is my boot disk so I do not want to reformat the whole drive.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've decided to remove Windows 7 from my iMac - the version installed is the 32 bit version, and I want to install the 64 bit instead as I've just upgrade to 8GB of ram (it's the 27 inch model). Do I just remove the partition via Boot Camp, or do I need to deactivate the serial number somewhere first?

as an extension to my question regarding RAM utilization, I've decided to upgrade my RAM. I went through the process of removing the underside of my MBP. After taking the screws out and mentally marking which slot they came out of (some are of different size), I pulled the lid up at the black trim area (the "neck" of the display mount) as this was the easiest way to get a non-damaging grip on the metal underside -- read: I avoided using a screw driver on the lid. As I started to lift, I was surprised at the amount of force I needed to use in order to remove the lid; something near the center of the cover was still holding the lid to the underside of the body. In fact, the amount of force I needed to use made me pause to question if I missed an important step other than simply removing the screws. I decided to "go for it" and applied more pressure while pulling the lid up and away from the body and heard a "pop" noise.

I can load Mac OS X if I press the Option key during startup, and select the Mac hard drive.
How do I load up the Mac OS X system without having to do it manually? I'm a brand new newbie with Macs.
IMac OS X 10.5.6 on 392.86 GB (392,855,289,856 bytes) of HD. 392.86 GB (392,855,289,856 bytes) of Windows Vista on what is left of original drive. My first action was to format the "Spare Disk" HFS+ which was successful but. The anomaly began once I removed the Bootcamp partition. I now have two drives which was once the original drive. The drive which had windows on now appears as "Spare Disk" when I view it through System Profiler but does not show up in the finder menu. It now appears as though the "Spare Disk" us useless and wasted space. My goal was to remove the BC partition and reunite the windows partition with the original. I'm not sure if I'm explaining this properly but simply put, I would like to connect the spare disk with the original disk so I have more usable space.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI know this isn't "Windows" per say, but I couldn't really find a closer forum to post in. I installed Ubuntu following their online guide using Bootcamp and such because I was curious. Now, it's not really working as much as I would like it to, and I'd like to remove the 90 or so Gigabytes I gave to Ubuntu in my partition.
I tried using the Disk Utility, and it always gets stuck on "preparing to remove partition". I waited for an hour and a half once, and it still had not progressed. I also tried using the Disk Utility off of my Mac OS X installation disk and saw the same failures and results. What can I do to remove this plaguing Ubuntu partition off of my hard drive for good?
creating and then removing a Win7 partition, restoring the initial single-OSX partition layout does not have any impact on my OSX installation, right? There should be no risk for my OSX installation, but I want to have your confirmation before proceeding with the installation of Win7 on my MBP.
