MacBook :: Won't Work With Tape On Battery
Apr 20, 2009
Well, I just got a replacement door because the door wasn't sealed properly after use. The hooks are more curved and the front of the device looks proper. However, there is still one corner sticking up which also makes a metallic noise when I set it down. So I tried putting some wall stickers on there, but they were too think so I found some double stick tape and stuck it on the rim surrounding the battery and then the battery itself. I might request another door from Apple, but for the moment is this a OK thing to do? I had thought about the detrimental effects of this thin plastic on the battery, but the tongue (to take out the battery) looks as if it's plastic as well.
Is putting tape on my battery to fix the door issues a bad idea?

I have a MacBook Pro 15" - Model A1226 (Santa Rosa, circa 2007). I need to replace my right fan. AppleCare just expired (of course). But replacing the fan should be pretty easy, I think.
The only question is about the tape securing the fan to the heatsink. On the old fan it looks like electrical tape, but on the "sticky" side, it looks like there is a bit of copper (?) in the middle.
So my assumption is that regular old electrical tape is not appropriate, but some special kind of electrical tape. What type of tape is that?

I usually use my laptop at a desk plugged into an AC outlet. Well I was going to be away for a week, so I unplugged it, when I came back, the battery went from 97%, not charging to 12% when I booted the laptop up again.
Also, can one continue using a macbook laptop if the battery is dead, but run it through or plugged into an ac outlet all the time?

I have a 1998 VHS tape of a family event I want to import into either iDVD or iMovie. I have a VHS player with both audio & tape banana plugs and the "S" connector. I have a digital Sony movie camera (about 8 years old) and it doesn't have AV & Vid inputs or an S input, only outputs. Is there any way to do this with this equipment? I would like to put the tape on a thumb drive or burn it onto a double layer DVD.

I need to purchase some of the orange anti-static tape that Apple uses to cover the connections on logic boards. I recently fixed a MBP (2.4GHz SR 15") and need to find some tape for the board. I know it isn't a completely crucial component, however, I would like to make my computer look as if it were new. If anyone knows where to buy this tape, the exact tape, not another version, please post a reply or email me. Thank you.

Have just finished movie on MacAir with material from camcorder's hard drive. No problem in transferring material from the brand new camera. I have older digital material recorded on tape cassettes by Sony videocam which I would like to re-work with iMovie11. The iMovi11 manual says transfer to the Air requires a FireWire connection. I still have the older digital camera and the cables that came with it but neither the Air nor my Toshiba laptop have FireWire ports. Any thoughts on how to effect a transfer?

i Have a 15 inch unibody MBP (the one with the 4 hour battery) and since I got it, iv realised iv never gotten close to 4 hours on it, even just with web browsing.
I tried the battery calibration thing on apples website but that didnt help at all. On a full charge if I check the battery it says I have 2:45 left, sometimes 3. thats not even close to 4 hours.
also, I can NEVER finish a movie all the way through. If im watching a movie, my battery will usually die about an hour and thirty/fourty five minutes in and I always have to plug it in to finish. does anyone else have these problems? or is this just how its supposed to be because it kinda sucks
My mac is on the more battery life setting also, and was purchased late april 09

my laptop (macbook pro) doesn't turn on, because the battery doesn't work (may be because of moisture), and the 7 battery lights on the left side are off, and when I plug the charger in, the light on the magnetic socket turns on so dim ..

I suffer from extensive paranoia of data loss and in addition to the HDD-based backups I do now, I've been looking to back up the Pro using tape. There are Mac incompatibilities in connecting to my SAN infrastructure, but as an alternative I have a Sony AITe200-UL Firewire AIT drive which I use on some of my Windows desktops which don't connect to my main network.
The backups would in all likelihood be attended (i.e. I'd be sitting near the machine for the duration of the backup) and will most likely not exceed the uncompressed capacity of the tape drive (80Gb) as it'll be documents only, not media (which is centralised and already backed up properly). A decent verify is a must but apart from that, I don't need a backup software jangling with features. I would like quick, fussless install of the backup software so that it's a good second-string backup to a bootable HDD image in case that doesn't work for any reason.
My automatic choice would have been Retrospect Desktop because I've worked with it - I use Retrospect on some of my PC's already. But is there a better option on the Mac?

I have an iBook G3 with a busted logic board. I sent it away for someone to weld something, and that fixed it for a few months. I do not want to pay $75 dollars to get it welded again, because I feel like at this point I could try it myself.Does anyone know of any tutorials, or like some step by step instructions, on how to open this baby up, and where to weld? Thanks.Edit: I heard there is an easier way to do this, wedging something into the LB and attaching it with tape or something. This would be preferable.

Can anyone recommend a brand/type of super-adhesive metal-to-metal double-stick tape?
I have a very slight warp to the bottom pan of my MBP. So slight as to be unnoticeable save for one rather obvious result: the part that goes over the top of the optical drive slot has come un-glued/fastened/riveted to the frame behind.
I want to secure it back against the frame and tape seems the best option. The pressure on the flange (part over the slot) is not great - it can easily be pressed in and will hold for a second or two - but will not hold with just regular double stick.

I made the mistake of unplugging and removing the battery from my iBook while in sleep mode, to reinsert a screw I found on the floor. Now at startup it's stuck on the blue screen. I've tried several resets, icluding shift-command-option-power, zapping the PRAM command-option-P-R which got my "startup sound" back, which I let chime 3X, I reset the NVRAM, single user mode confirmed the clock was reset (to 1904) and an fsck said the system "Appears to be OK." I've had no luck with "safe boot," I have no reset button and no OS disk to boot from. Verbose mode prints up the same 10 lines over and over "(error) imprt: importer start failed for 89, invalid destination port, no such file directory, run loop could not be started." It's a 14" iBook G4 running OS 10.5.6. I don't mind if files are lost-there's nothing important on there.

Having updated to 10.5.7, Calculator no longer displays Paper Tape on my G4. Funnily enough, Save Tape As... still appears in the File Menu.
Okay restarted and it is back, whew! Wish Show Paper Tape were a preference that could be saved, half the time Calculator launches without it, though I never uncheck it.

My video footage is scattered in 2-3 tapes and i want to arrange them all in one. I was thinking to capture them in my PowerBookG4 via iMovieHD (6.0.3) and then record back all the footage (captured video) in the sequence i want, to one tape...
Is this possible and how?
p.s. Note that i want to capture and write back to the tape the uncompressed dv format and not mpeg.

I've been doing some searching and can't find any threads regarding capturing audio (cassette tape) to a mac. Wanted to rip some old school tunes from some tapes and convert to MP3. I connected an old tape deck to my G5 via ADS Pyro A/V Link (RCA audio input to Pyro, firewire connection out to G5), that doesn't seem to work. I've also tried connecting to my iMic USB, but that's not picking up any audio either. I've tried using QT audio recording, iMovie, FCP, and Analogue Ripper with no luck. They recognize the Pyro and iMic, but not picking up audio.
