Apr 24, 2012Have just finished movie on MacAir with material from camcorder's hard drive. No problem in transferring material from the brand new camera. I have older digital material recorded on tape cassettes by Sony videocam which I would like to re-work with iMovie11. The iMovi11 manual says transfer to the Air requires a FireWire connection. I still have the older digital camera and the cables that came with it but neither the Air nor my Toshiba laptop have FireWire ports. Any thoughts on how to effect a transfer?

Power Mac G5 :: Audio Capture (cassette Tape) And Convert To MP3
Oct 5, 2007I've been doing some searching and can't find any threads regarding capturing audio (cassette tape) to a mac. Wanted to rip some old school tunes from some tapes and convert to MP3. I connected an old tape deck to my G5 via ADS Pyro A/V Link (RCA audio input to Pyro, firewire connection out to G5), that doesn't seem to work. I've also tried connecting to my iMic USB, but that's not picking up any audio either. I've tried using QT audio recording, iMovie, FCP, and Analogue Ripper with no luck. They recognize the Pyro and iMic, but not picking up audio.

Jul 4, 2010I have a MacBook Pro 15" - Model A1226 (Santa Rosa, circa 2007). I need to replace my right fan. AppleCare just expired (of course). But replacing the fan should be pretty easy, I think.
The only question is about the tape securing the fan to the heatsink. On the old fan it looks like electrical tape, but on the "sticky" side, it looks like there is a bit of copper (?) in the middle.
So my assumption is that regular old electrical tape is not appropriate, but some special kind of electrical tape. What type of tape is that?

Aug 29, 2008I recently purchased a DANE-ELEC Zpen, I now realise that while it will capture my handwriting as an image it does not convert my handwriting to digital text when I use Mac OSX. It has this functionality on a PC. I wonder is there some software available for Mac OSX that could convert handwriting to text. With the Zpen the files are saved using the extension.

Feb 19, 2009I am hoping to convert WMA files to MP3 formate on a mac. I tried out the program named switch but I was unable to make that work (I was only using the trial version anyway. I did see the thread that was started in Nov 06 but it seems to be a little too old for discussion sakes. I was also hopping for new information/evolution of programs and freeware. I will try what it says about switch but I doubt it will work.
If you have any other programs, I would love to hear about them. (just as a side note, the WMA files could be protected. I don't know if they are and I dont know how to know if they are or are not. I read on the switch application page that it supports the decoded version of WMA thus that might be the reason it doesn't work).

Luckily, I realized that I could do this easily in a program called OpenOffice.org Draw. However, I can't post it to Facebook (I'm assuming because Facebook doesn't recognize an .odg file as a picture). Nov 26, 2010I have a number of files that are .avi, .xvid, and mp4 that I would like to convert to dvd format, not just burn it to a disk, but burn it to a dvd-r that will play in my dvd player rather than my computer. Does anyone know of any software that can do this that is easy to use and either free or inexpensive? I have tried ffmpegx (way to complicated for me!), the trial of aimersoft - couldn't get it to convert anything, and toast. (With that I tried to burn someone that was already in dvd format but it turned it into mp4...) I have only had a mac for about three months, so I am not terribly familiar with it's workings yet... I am on OS X 10.6.5 Snow leopard I think?
