View 2 RepliesI have a MacBook Pro 15" - Model A1226 (Santa Rosa, circa 2007). I need to replace my right fan. AppleCare just expired (of course). But replacing the fan should be pretty easy, I think.
The only question is about the tape securing the fan to the heatsink. On the old fan it looks like electrical tape, but on the "sticky" side, it looks like there is a bit of copper (?) in the middle.
So my assumption is that regular old electrical tape is not appropriate, but some special kind of electrical tape. What type of tape is that?
how long is the battery on the macbook air?
View 11 Replies View RelatedI plan to get a 13" 2.26ghz Macbook Pro, and I have a 20" external monitor with a 1680, 1050 resolution.
First thing, I've barely used OS X, let alone with an external monitor. How well does OS X handle it? Is it pretty simple, and can I set separate backgrounds for each display?
Secondly, will the GPU handle it alright, or will it be sluggish when I hook up the external? I'll mostly be using the 20" to do Photoshop work, with occasional video editing (though I have other computers available to do rendering on.)
I recently bought a Macbook Pro 15" i7. I was just wondering what kind of battery life you guys are getting
Right now it's showing 6:12 with 93 percent intel hd graphics, with Microsoft Word, iTunes, and Google Chrome on
My flash drive was working a few minuets ago and then I accidently clicked it and then dragged it into my "favorites" column, and now I can't find it anywhere on my hard drive. It lights up when I plug it in and a thing pops up when I did not "eject" it the right way.

I'm a macbook air user and I have a problem with my document saving. I was doing a project and I put the information I needed in a document. I am pretty sure i saved it cause I remember I checked the name of it. It was yesterday and today I can't find it anywhere. It's not in recent document and I can't find it in spotlight or document searching or even trash. I checked the available space in the macintosh hd and I have nearly 1/3 left. It's fine if I can't find this doc i will just redo it but I'm really worried what if next time if something really important goes missing and I don't want to do that again!

Could someone please post the BIOS/ROM from the new Mac/PC ATI 3870 card?
You can write the BIOS file from within Windows/Bootcamp by using GPU-Z. If you do not want to post it here, please consider adding it to the VGA Bios Database at techPowerUp.
Im working on a mod, and want to kno some more info about the powerbook trackpad (or track pads in general). how it works, its physical peices, etc.If anyone knows any good sites, lemme kno.
my parents have an iMac (not sure of the exact model except its maybe 2 or 3 months old). Anyways, it's kind of in between the living room and the kitchen and is used often (among other things) to play music in those two areas using iTunes.
I was wondering if the Apple Remote Control would work well... the only catch being that the remote is IR and that the position of the computer means that a lot of times, the remote would be facing the side and backs of the computer. I doubt the remote would work but I also heard that the remote's IR is very robust.... is it strong enough to be able to used from these angles (im assuming by bouncing the signal off walls or something?).
just asking for personal opinions on speed in Logic. I work with both software instruments and audio tracks, up to 40+ tracks per song-will the minimum imac model work for me? I would also like to do work in Reason and Record in the future so.
View 3 Replies View RelatedHad a storm with a power flux and mac went down. Started it back the next day. Ran a first aid on the hard drive system first (all icons on desk top worked fine, showed all software installed, all documents, etc.) Everything checked out.
I have an Iomega external hard drive attached to use as back up. When I ran the first aid on that the system froze. I turned the computer off, waited and then rebooted. Everything came on again, but this time, my screen saver was the original one, not the one I use, all the added icons from the desk top bar were missing, back to the original ones loaded at time of purchase, all my documents are missing, as in everything except for my pictures on the hard drive, all the info stored on my desk top, everything GONE. NO sign of where anything went. The system seems to work fine as far as that goes, but there is none of the materials from the past 5 years of use. Can't even find my emails from Apple, nothing. That's all gone as well. Called up Apple support but because the warranty is no longer in effect, will have to pay for service. Am ready to do that if this fails.

I'm going to be using iChat for the first time and want to use the screen sharing feature between two computers running 10.6. iChat's documentation (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.h.../en/17157.html) says:
"While every screen sharing connection uses encryption, the highest level of security requires both participants to have MobileMe subscriptions with encryption enabled. If this is the case, you will see a lock icon in the screen sharing window."
I'm wondering:
1. What is the difference between the encryption that "every screen sharing connection uses" and the enhanced security allowed with MobileMe accounts? How does this compare with, say, doing VNC over an SSH connection?
2. I understand that one can get a free MobileMe account which only has iChat capabilities. Does this free MobileMe account enable iChat encryption, or do I have to pay $99/year to get that?
i just got a mac from my parents since my pc went down the other day. they have osx 10.2.8. i cant find any info on updates to the newer versions of osx. should i just buy 10.6 or do something else.
View 7 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to hook up a external monitor to the 24" iMac as in the same way you can do with a macbook pro? Reason being is that I want the 24" iMac and I want to do photo editing. I'm getting mixed reviews on it due to the glossy screen. Some say yes and others say no. I have a 21 inch LCD display that I am not using. I was wondering if I can use it when I need to edit photos. I can't afford the macbook pro that I want so my next option is the iMac.

I use my MBP 15" (the new one), as my primary machine in my office. I sit by my best usually 10-12hrs a day working on it.
I am trying to figure out what is best to do, keep the AC plugged in or have it un-plugged and only plug it in when the battery is drained (or less then 50%)? I have tried different experiments, plugged in, not-plugged and time is about the same for life of the battery. The true question is, how is is best to do it for the health of the battery.
Well, I just got a replacement door because the door wasn't sealed properly after use. The hooks are more curved and the front of the device looks proper. However, there is still one corner sticking up which also makes a metallic noise when I set it down. So I tried putting some wall stickers on there, but they were too think so I found some double stick tape and stuck it on the rim surrounding the battery and then the battery itself. I might request another door from Apple, but for the moment is this a OK thing to do? I had thought about the detrimental effects of this thin plastic on the battery, but the tongue (to take out the battery) looks as if it's plastic as well.
Is putting tape on my battery to fix the door issues a bad idea?
I have a 1998 VHS tape of a family event I want to import into either iDVD or iMovie. I have a VHS player with both audio & tape banana plugs and the "S" connector. I have a digital Sony movie camera (about 8 years old) and it doesn't have AV & Vid inputs or an S input, only outputs. Is there any way to do this with this equipment? I would like to put the tape on a thumb drive or burn it onto a double layer DVD.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI need to purchase some of the orange anti-static tape that Apple uses to cover the connections on logic boards. I recently fixed a MBP (2.4GHz SR 15") and need to find some tape for the board. I know it isn't a completely crucial component, however, I would like to make my computer look as if it were new. If anyone knows where to buy this tape, the exact tape, not another version, please post a reply or email me. Thank you.

Have just finished movie on MacAir with material from camcorder's hard drive. No problem in transferring material from the brand new camera. I have older digital material recorded on tape cassettes by Sony videocam which I would like to re-work with iMovie11. The iMovi11 manual says transfer to the Air requires a FireWire connection. I still have the older digital camera and the cables that came with it but neither the Air nor my Toshiba laptop have FireWire ports. Any thoughts on how to effect a transfer?

Below is a message from BRU Technology about Mac OS 10.4.10 is not compatible with tape devices connected to Mac OS X 10.4.10 via SCSI, FireWire, USB, SAS, or Fibre-Channel.
Is anyone having issues with thier setups ?
I suffer from extensive paranoia of data loss and in addition to the HDD-based backups I do now, I've been looking to back up the Pro using tape. There are Mac incompatibilities in connecting to my SAN infrastructure, but as an alternative I have a Sony AITe200-UL Firewire AIT drive which I use on some of my Windows desktops which don't connect to my main network.
The backups would in all likelihood be attended (i.e. I'd be sitting near the machine for the duration of the backup) and will most likely not exceed the uncompressed capacity of the tape drive (80Gb) as it'll be documents only, not media (which is centralised and already backed up properly). A decent verify is a must but apart from that, I don't need a backup software jangling with features. I would like quick, fussless install of the backup software so that it's a good second-string backup to a bootable HDD image in case that doesn't work for any reason.
My automatic choice would have been Retrospect Desktop because I've worked with it - I use Retrospect on some of my PC's already. But is there a better option on the Mac?
I have an iBook G3 with a busted logic board. I sent it away for someone to weld something, and that fixed it for a few months. I do not want to pay $75 dollars to get it welded again, because I feel like at this point I could try it myself.Does anyone know of any tutorials, or like some step by step instructions, on how to open this baby up, and where to weld? Thanks.Edit: I heard there is an easier way to do this, wedging something into the LB and attaching it with tape or something. This would be preferable.
