Has anybody been able to boot Disk Warrior 4.2 build from Rev 901 on a Core i7 MacBook Pro?

May 13, 2010Just an FYI. Tech Support at Allsoft states The Disk Warrior 4.2 Boot DVD will not Boot the new 2010 MBP's. They are waiting for information (software) from Apple.
Will need to use Target Mode or another Mac connected with Firewire till then. Boot from that then run DW from your MBP.

Apr 11, 2010I am considering purchasing diskwarrior but want to make sure it can help my situation before I purchase it. My imac will not boot from the internal hard drive (Intel processor) When I use disk utility to try and repair the disk, I get error messages and it won't repair. I can see the HD but cannot repair it. When I connect using target mode with my mac book pro, the hard drive does not appear on my host (macbook pro) computer. I have reloaded OS X (Leopard) onto a firewire external drive and can boot my imac that way but I can not find my original internal Macintosh HD. Will disk warrior be able to help with this scenario. I would really like to access that internal Macintosh HD and retrieve my files.

Feb 18, 2009Yesterday I switched on my macbook (Leopard) and got the flashing question mark. Ran all the resets and booted with disk utility which encountered an 'Invalid B-tree Node' when attempting to repair the disk. Additionally, the SMART status was verified.
I ran DW 4 last night, and performed the hardware tests which reported that the disk was operating like normal. The majority of my media files and additional work is backed up to my Time Capsule but I still have a folder of papers that are relatively new, and wanted to retrieve. While DW managed to reconstruct the majority of my drive (there seemed to be 15g missing - but it's just music files) including this folder, it couldn't replace the disk, as it encountered 'Serious Disk Malfunctions'.
So, via the Disk Preview I want to transfer my saved folders to my TC, but I don't appear to be able to locate it (via ethernet) through DW - even if it's connected when I boot up in DW. So, first request is: Can I connect to my TC to transfer across in DW's preview?
Second is: What are my options if DW can't replace? Do I need to take it into Apple and get a new HD (it's out of warranty)? It's possibly worth noting that I'm a student and have absolutely no money - so cost effective options are a bonus!
MacBook Pro :: Unable To Recover Files From Disk-warrior?

Booting from an external drive and running DW4 on MAC OS 10.7. Trying to recover from preview pane as my internal drive will not rebuild. The folders on the internal MacHD are visible in the preview but have "minus" on them and I will not copy. It is showing it has zero bytes and when I click on the copy from the preview pane I get a message that says the operation cannot be completed because I have insufficient privilages. My ultimate goal is to get out the home folder for the user and migrate the the user files to a new MacBook Pro.

MacBook Pro :: Disk Warrior Didn't Work For Data Recovery
Jun 11, 2012My hard drive decided to quit after only 22 months! Some files were backed up but my current photo albums were not. That's all I really need, I don't care about all the other junk. I've tried booting from the Disk Warrior cd, which Apple Genuis Bar suggested since they don't do data recovery.
So it there another way I can do this myself or should I just bring it to Fry's for $149?
Another question would be, after I recover the files, I'd like to upgrade my MacBook Pro 13 to a Solid State drive. I know I need a 2.5" SATA, but which brand/size is good for a $200-$300 budget?

Sep 22, 2008I ran disk warrior on my g-4 and the report came up with these listed below.
Warning: SUID file "system/librar/coreservices/finder.app/Resource damaged and will not be repaired.
Warning:SUID file"usr/bin/Ippasswd" has been modified and will not be repaired.
I used spotlight to search for using some of the words but cannot find any thing in reference to the 2 warnings, so I can figure out how to repair them.
OS X :: Reset Button On Disk Warrior Grayed Out
May 20, 2009I have an I mac running 10.4. I had to reboot it form Dis warrior, DW did it thing told what ever was wrong and it fixed, now when is all done scanning and "fixing" my computer the reset button on the DW is grayed out, only the cancel button is on. I have reboot it about 4 times to no avail same thing happens.

Software :: Can't Eject A Bootable Disk Warrior CD?
Feb 15, 2009I recently used DiskWarrior 4.1 (with Tiger) to check the disk of a Leopard Intel IMac.
All went well, but when I tried to restart and eject the Disk Warrior CD (by holding down the mouse button), the CD would not eject, the Mac restarted with Disk Warrior as the start-up volume.
It seems like it thinks the CD is the start-up disk. I tried the eject button too (at start-up).
I tied resetting the SMC with unplugging the power and cables, no luck either.
Also tried to reset PRAM (several times), but no luck.
Software :: Disk Warrior Stuck On Locating Directory Data
Jan 10, 2009If I make a mistake and I can't open OS X. In windows I think you can start in safe mode and undo the mistake? I was installing UBUNTU on an external disk, but for some reason my original OS X is not working and was affected. Disc Utility can see the disk, repair permissions and check hard drive ok. But I can still not boot from it. Now I try DiskWarrior but for the last 15 min it has been stuck on "Locating directory data" so I guess some thing is wrong. I did not try any other apps, for fixing broken hard drives yet. If Disk Warrior don't work I will try TechTool and Genius. Then it's no more options then to reinstall.

Feb 1, 2009last week my mac (1 year old iMc, 2.4ghz intel chip, 4gb ram, system 10.5.7) went all funny, everything was working slowly - so I restarted, same thing, I restarted again and it just went to the grey screen with the spinning ball.Ok so I restarted from my tiger disk and it could see the drive, so I tried to install a new system and it got right to the end of the installation then said because of a disk error it couldn't do it.
Ok so I bought an external HD, put a system on and started up from there - now the drive came up, but things were slow still, it took forever to copy anything so I tried disk utility, it couldn't repair it. I tried drive genius, same thing. DiskWarrior 4.1.1 same thing.
Now I tried again a few times and the programmes took forever to start up but now disk utility opens after about 30 mins and can see the drive, but it's lost it's name and I can't even repair or repair disk permisssions. Drive Genius can see it but not repair and same for Disk Warrior, the 'rebuild' tool is greyed out.
It's a 500GB drive and only has 3GB spare on it, it has loads and loasds of stuff on there, work, music, films, all my preferences, passwords and of course all my software - I do have a backup of some stuff, my photos luckily enough - but I still need to get it fixed.
Now what can I do? Is there anything in terminal I can do? Any other ideas anyone? I'm desperate for help.I have downloaded Data Rescue II and it has been gathering device information for an hour, I'm hoping it will carry on and later on I can start recovering. But in all honestly is there anyway of fixing the drive?And if not can I recover and then do I need to re-format? And if so will it work ok once formatted?Also any ideas why this would have happened?
Intel Mac :: Disk Warrior Reported A Damaged Resource Header That Cannot Be Repaired?
Jul 2, 2012Disk Warrior reported a damaged resource header that cannot be repaired. The resource header is in an "older" file format (rsrc). I have been having fairly frequent freezes of the system and Disk Utility reporting a corrupted HD which Disk Unility is always able to repair and report the HD to be O.K. Could the damaged header be the cause of the freezes? If so, can anything be done about it if Warrior says it cannot be repaired?

MacBook :: It Won't Boot After Trying To Repair With Disk Utility, Cannot Boot In Safe Mode
Jun 11, 2012I have a MacBook 4,1 with Intel Core 2 Duo processor 4GB Ram. It is taking over 10 minutes to boot up past the gray apple screen when I turn it on. First I cleared the PRam (?) then I checked the disk using Disk Utility Verify, and it said the disk needed repairs. So I ran the disk repair and it said it was unable to fix the errors on the HD.
I did a little research and tried booting into the Single User mode, then running /sbin/fsck -fy. It said that it found errors but could not fix them. I ran it two more times as suggested and got the same result each time. I then tried rebooting and now instead of taking 10 minutes to boot up, it takes about 5 minutes on the gray apple screen and then just turns off. I started in Verbose mode to try to troubleshoot the error and it appears the last thing to come across the screen before power down is a message "Apple Yukon 2: RxRingSize <= 1024....etc".
I decided next I would run the Apple Hardware Tester. The test came back with an error code "4SNS/1/40000001:IG0C-0.265". I am very good at searching the web but I could not find any errors that had the IG0C or IGOC or any combination at the end, but plenty of 4SNS/1/40000000(1) errors with different endings. From what I can tell people are saying anything with 4SNS/1/4000000 is a logic board failure, but this computer was literally just booting this morning until I did the /sbin/fsck -fy.

MacBook Pro :: Differences Between Core 2 Duo / Core I5 And Core I7?
Dec 4, 2010I see the numbers of everything from Core 2 Duo, to the slightly faster and cooler Core i3, to the supposedly faster core i5s and i7s. The benchmarks go up accordingly, but I found this does not always equate in a faster experience on most tasks.
Here's my experience so far on processor upgrade:
In one computer trade school re-certification class I am in, we are working with Windows Server 2003 on a Quad Xeon platform and it's incredibly slow.
But in a previous class we had the previous generation server edition on older Xeons, and while not fast, it was much better. On paper the newer multi-core Xeons should have made a difference, but could 2003 server software be that much more bloated than the previous Windows server edition that it would stall like that and make us wish we had the older setup?
I am going to try out the Adobe CS lab and put the new high end Dells to the test there and see if they work better than when we had an older CS version on older Xeon equipped Dells.
I don't know if this is something to do with Dell, or if Apple's increasing processor bumps/generations are going to similarly not make a difference in the speed things appear to go at, whether it's Adobe stuff, server stuff, or anything else that needs power.
I know somebody who plans on a Core 2 Duo, i5 or i7 MBP and I was wondering if the higher end processor is worth it in that case (iMovie being the main program of use).

Oct 1, 2010Anyone else had trouble option booting with a 2010 Mac Pro? Can't get to startup manager. All I get is a blank screen. Apple says it must be a hardware problem after having me test everything else. Keyboard checks out. Can boot from install disk holding C key, but cannot change startup disk with prefs to install dvd or to a cloned drive. Have reinstalled SL 10.6.4 from install disk. Zapped pram and unplugged power, held power button 5-10 secs. and plugged in again - to reset computer according to apple tech.

Tried the hardware test & no trouble found, did the short & long test.The MacBook is a college kid (friend of my youngest) that dropped it off last night and I am stumped. I thought it was surely the HD but all the test say it is fine.I cannot get it to boot from a disk either.

Apr 18, 2010There's a lot of people wondering if the 13" MBPs would have been a lot better with a Core i3 processor, but everything has been just hangups over perceived old vs. new technology, and really the only thing the Core i3 adds is Hyper-Threading, but it doesn't have Turbo Boost, which helps the Core i5/i7s tremendously. Let's compare using Geekbench since it is cross-platform and one of the few available sources of info...

As you can see in both cases, the difference is pretty minimal indeed, and in single threaded applications, the C2D will easily outdo the Core i3 which lacks Turbo Boost and runs at lower clock rates.
And you get a 320M instead of Intel HD graphics with the new 13".
The Geekbench results from the old 15/17" to the new 15/17" are quite an order of magnitude better.
So unless people are expecting Core i5 processors in the 13", sticking to the C2D was actually a good decision, and given the differences between 2.4 and 2.53 isn't so large, one is far better buying the base 13" and then putting the money saved towards a good 7.2k HDD or SSD.
Note - I took averages of the 32-bit numbers and added them.
Note 2 - The C2D Pxxxx are 25W TDP processors, which are more efficient than the Core i3 which are 35W TDP processors. Less heat, better battery life from C2Ds.

Apr 23, 2010I installed a legal copy of Windows 7 Professional x64 on my new machine through Boot Camp.
All was well until I got to the desktop and wanted to begin installing updates. I noticed that it wasn't allowing me to get online, almost as if it wasn't detecting my wireless card. I thought this issue was because I hadn't run "setup.exe" from my Snow Leopard disc. So I put that in.

1 ) During sustained use in 3D gaming does a Quadcore with lower clock speeds beat a dual core with higher clock speeds.
2) Can the quoted turbo speeds be achieved in sustained use (ie 3D gaming where maximal load can be applied for a couple of hours).

Mac Mini :: Intel Core Duo A1176 - Does Not Accept Keyboard Input On Boot
Dec 22, 2010I have an Intel Mac mini (purchased in 2005 or 2006) with a fresh install of OS X Leopard on it. I recently changed the Startup Disk in the OS X system preferences to be the CD/DVD drive, and everything has gone downhill since there.
I inserted a CD and attempted to boot from it right after changing this setting. I noticed the CD drive spun up the disk, but after waiting several seconds a black screen appeared, saying "No bootable device — insert boot disk and press any key".
There were two problems here: first, the CD never ejected from the computer, and second, there was no response to any key press.
After restarting and shutting down a few times I got the Mac to spit out the CD somehow. I restarted, inserted the same OS X Leopard disk used to install the operating system earlier that day, and got the same "No bootable device" error.

May 26, 2009I'm currently in the process of trying to install Win7 on my Macbook Pro (purchased July '07) using an ISO burned to a DVD with Disk Utility. Unfortunately, the DVD isn't bootable, and while the symptoms match what's in this blog post, the author's solution involved using a Windows-only program.
I'd like to know if it's possible to re-burn the ISO without the version number in the filenames as in the original solution, but with Disk Utility or something else that a Mac can use.

Apr 13, 2010Although i'm hardly impressed by the prices and specs of these 'new' machines I need one so I'm buying!
Just need to know before I make the plunge. Is the i7 variant with the extra GPU ram really worth it? I would use the extra power in my work but I honestly need to know if I'd notice any difference as for a few seconds less waiting it would hardly justify the price.

Jan 23, 2009Earlier tonight my Macbook crashed I went to restart and it crashed finally after several attempts I used my Mac OSX disk and was able to boot from the disk and then from there load Leopard,But my problem is that this is the only way to boot up(Macbook won't load on it's own).
