I have downloaded Lion OS 10.7.XX trhough App Store. When I tried re installing the OS it failed after the bootup due to the Hard drive error. Now it is recommending me to format the Harddrive then re install the OS. I'd like to go back to my previous us so that I back up my data prior to formatting the hard drive. How can I boot from my previos operating system that was installed on the device?

I have Leopard installed on my main drive (MacPro). I was wondering if I could install Leopard again, but on another one of my internal drives for experimental purposes? Would I be able to choose which install to boot from? To clarify, I don't want to create another user account, I want to dual boot the same OS.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've been reading this site for a while now, first time I'm posting. I recently purchased 8 GB of RAM for my 2010 13" MBP. There are two 4 GB DDR3 PC3-10500 1333mhz sticks. When I install them in the laptop my computer does not get past the apple logo boot screen (the spinning disc freezes). However, I can boot into Windows (boot camp) without issues.
Also, when I pair either of the 4 GB sticks with one of my old 2 GB stock sticks the laptop boots up fine in OS X. The system profiler registers it as 6 GB of 1067 mhz RAM (the stock sticks are 1067 mhz)
How to check the OS on my macbook pro. I don't remember if I have Lion or Snow Leopard.

my question is how/can i upgrade the o.s to a higher level (currently at osx 10.2) & what is the realistic o.s i can get to whilst still working to a realistic level.?? would i need more ram/memory?? its in pretty good nick generally and would be a shame not to make the best out of it.
i got my macbook about 2 years ago when my mum bought it for me for christmas. My mum, being a completle idiot when it comes to computers, did not realise that it doesnt have windows on or that i did not have a clue how to use a mac.
So i immediatly asked my dad computer genius friend to change the operating system to windows xp. This means that when i turn the computer on there is NOT an option to go on either mac or windows it is JUST windows.
Two years later a really regret my decision and was wondering if i somehow found out how to remove windows would my mac operating system still be there or would i have to re install it completly?
I recently tried to use bootcamp to install Windows 7 everything went good till I tried to reboot the Mac portion....I was greeted to a black screen that says missing operating system?

I just installed a new hard drive in my Macbook. I used the discs that came with the computer. I started the computer, went to the Disk Utility and created a partition named Macintosh HD. I made sure it was a GUID petition. When I restart to install the operating system I get a message "MAC OS x cannot be installed on this computer.

So I have a Macbook Pro (15 inch, ~late 2011, 10.7.4) with a Windows 7 Boot Camp partition. I need to run a software for work that is only compatable with Snow Leopard, so I was thinking about trying to create an additional partition that has Snow Leopard, for a total of 3 partitions: Lion, Snow Leopard and Windows 7. However, when I went in to create the 3rd partition, I came across the following warning:This disk appears to be paritioned for Boot Camp. Changing the partition map may make this disk unbootable using Windows. I did a quick search online but didn't really get any clear cut answers on what could happen. Is what I want possible without wrecking my Windows partition?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI noticed that my Messages on youtube are instantly deleted when I comment on some peoples Youtube channels. I don't think its the person that owns the youtube channels doing it because it is deleted almost instantly after I log out. It's very odd and I don't think its youtube censoring my comment because I'm not cursing in the comment and I don't believe cursing is against the TOS on Youtube anyways.
Another thing I notice is that when I'm on a flash based chatroom that when someone I am talking to has left the chatroom it will still say they are in the chatroom until I click on my friendlist and than they turn red as if they are gone. It is very odd that I am noticing these strange bugs. However the chatroom thing could be a chatroom problem because it might do that on my Windows side which I never checked because I'm usually on that chatroom on my Mac side.

I did not have enough memory and I had already deleted some games in the past to do updates. Well I downloaded Windows XP Home about half a year ago and decided I really did not use it all that much. When I downloaded It i cut the memory in half (1/2 OS X and 1/2 Windows XP) So I went back to my Bootcamp installation papers to see how to properly uninstall Windows. So I did and everything seemed fine the only thing I thought was odd is that it only took like 3 seconds to uninstall so i knew it did not actually uninstall. I did not think much of it cause I could now download the update.

Safari suddenly shut down and when I tried to relaunch, the icon on the toolbar jumps a couple of times (teasing me as if he is going to launch) and then doesn't open. I did get it to "almost" launch a couple of times and it never opened my home page. It instead, within seconds, it shut down and I got the error message that the application suddenly quit but that my operating system wasn't affected, etc. All of my Office applications work fine but Safari will just not launch..

Does it come preinstalled if I am going to buy a macbook today?
I have a mirrored drive door G4 [dual 1.25 GHz] with 10.2.8. The newest browser I can run is Firefox 2.0.0.20. That browser will not successfully run some sites. Monster.com, for example.
I am unemployed just now and cannot afford to spend money on a new Intel machine. I have critical need of being able to run what I have here now:
Photoshop CS [no number suffix]
InDesign 3.0.1
Microsoft office X, 10.1.6
Filemaker pro 6 [although I do also own 7]
Text Soap 3
Roxio Toast 5.2.1
I have been told I could upgrade this G4 to 10.4. Supposedly that would allow me to run a current browser. I don't know if that is true, it is just something I was told.
I have multiple fears about making such an upgrade. First, where would you get the discs to do that, and how could you get any patches or upgrades that were created subsequent to its introduction?
Second, would all my software listed above work with 10.4?
I imagine I would need to make up an external drive that completely mirrored my current setup, in case it went wrong and I had to go back to what I have.
My need is to have a computer I can use to look for jobs effectively. Monster.com won't even let me log in with this browser. I consider buying some used machine with a current browser to use for my job search, but hate to waste the money.
Do the experienced and knowledgeable here have some advice for me? Is there a safe way to make some changes on this machine and retain my current array of software?
As soon as I get a job I will spend the money [I currently have saved] to buy a new Intel Mac. I just don't want to let that money go while I am unemployed. I have been for three months and have not gotten so much as a single interview.
