OS X :: How To Install Programs On G4

Jul 28, 2009

My first Mac, a G4 M8570. Friend gave it to me and it has 10.2.8. I download the Firefox installer "Firefox 3.5.1.dmg" and it sits on the desktop. All of the tutorials say that Macs are so easy to install programs, just drag the installer to the applications folder, which I did. Now it sits in the applications folder. Is it installed? Nothing happened, no progress bar, no indication that anything happened. When I double click on it, the Firefox logo appears briefly on the toolbar and bounces up and down very nicely, but quickly disappears. Or sometimes the Applications icon appears instead and does the same thing. I didn't know Macs were so difficult to use! The Firefox download did say it was for OS X 10.4 and above, could that make a difference?

OS X :: Some Programs Not Even Run / Install?

Feb 15, 2010

Tonight, my sister comes to me saying that her MSN program won't startup properly. She's running OS X Tiger I believe (Her computers a couple years old and as far as I know she didn't upgrade to leopard or snow leopard) and this problem just started happening today. I asked her if maybe she had got a virus or installed any software before this started happening and she said "No." although I don't know how true that is. Regardless, I told her to try and run a virus scan to check, and she came back to me 15 minutes later saying that she tried to install a virus checker but when she tries to install it, all that happens is her finder "refreshes" (so to speak) - The top-bar at the top of her screen goes invisible and then slides back into place once the application refuses to run. No notices pop up, the application simply does not start up. The same issue is happening for her MSN program, too. From what I saw, Firefox is working just fine, as well as a few other apps on her Mac. Is it a virus? I'm not too sure since I unfortunately don't have a mac (yet)!

Software :: Install And Use BootCamp From Apple - Install Of Leopard Didn't Include BC

May 26, 2009

I've been trying to install and use BootCamp from Apple, so I can use Visual Basic for my classes. Obviously, I need Windows for this. Anyway, i downloaded BootCamp, installed it, and then Windows XP. After this I was told to insert my OSX disc to get the drivers. Well nothing happened at all. I suppose because this install of Leopard didn't include BC, it was a seperate download.I then read that BC Assistant should give me the option to burn a drivers disc. I looked at the provided screenshots, and right where the button should have been, there was nothing.

If I read the help stuff right I need to use the OSX install disk to install the drivers. The problem is, I don't have the install disk. Is there any other way to get the drivers? Or am I just missing something easier?

OS X :: How Recover Programs Without An Install Disc

Jan 13, 2009

So I let my brother use my Powerbook G4 with OSX 10.4 this past Christmas. He being the nice kid he is decided to clean out all the spyware in my computer, trouble is there was no spyware, and he wound up deleting Disk Utility and Installer thinking the programs were spyware. So now I go to install iLife '08 today and I can't open it with Installer because it's been trashed! So I went to try and restore with my Install CD and it's scratched and isn't recognized!

Apr 6, 2008

I've just ordered a Mac Pro and have been thinking of inserting a SSD-disc to install Leopard and some often used programs. Have anyone tried this? I got a suggestion to just buy a (much cheaper) 10k-rpm disc instead, which is a viable option, but I'm really interested in this "new" ssd-stuff I know, it ain't that new, but it's almost affordable now...So, have anyone tried this and did you see a rise in performance?

Software :: Unable To Install Programs To Mac - Forgot Password

Jun 12, 2010

My wife couldn't install programs to her mac. It keeps asking for a password that she cannot remember. The lock is locked, so we can't change anything. I used the CD and went to the utilities and reset her user password there, but it mentions that it does not reset her keychain password. Well, I can't log in to change anything. How the heck am I supposed to change her keychain password? Will she lose the thousands of pictures that she has taken if I do reset it? Is there some way to save the data?

Windows On Mac :: Bootcamp 3.1 Won't Install - How To Install

May 28, 2010

I have a 27" iMac with an i7 CPU, 16GB RAM, 2TB HDD. It is running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 under bootcamp.

When I try to install bootcamp services it states "to install bootcamp services you need to running Windows XP SP2 or Windows Vista"

I then downloaded bootcamp services 3.1 from here:
[URL]

It clearly states Windows 7 support, and is for X64.

Yet when I run it, it gives the same error stating I need to using Windows Vista or XP SP2.

does one install bootcamp services on a 27" iMac under Windows 7?

MacBook :: Unable To Open Programs - Programs Are Not Displaying

Mar 25, 2010

I have a question about using my new samsung tv as a monitor for my macbook. I have all the cables and such and my TV reads the computer. It actually shows the desktop background, mouse, and the toolbar on the tv...
BUT....when i try and open a program such as safari or itunes it does not display the program on the monitor but rather on my macbook screen. It shows the program open on the tv monitor but it shoots off the screen and then opens on the macbook screen.

Also the mouse disappears from the tv monitor screen on the left side only, and when it does it becomes visible back on the macbook screen! Any tips or suggestions on how to get the programs to show up on the monitor instead of the macbook screen?

OS X :: To Install Windows On Bootcamp?

Oct 16, 2010

Well basically I tried to install Windows on Bootcamp, and long story short I have to completely reinstall OSX. When I put the Snow Leopard disc in, I try holding either Command-Option-Shift-Delete or just c, and neither methods work. It always tries to boot from the HD, in which case I just get the spinning circle for ever. Why wont it boot from the disc?!?!? I also tried plugging in an external dvd drive, and it still wont work....

Any way around this, without buying a wired keyboard & mouse?!

OS X :: No BootCamp PKG Bust Install DVD

Jun 10, 2009

I need to install windows to run a PC only piece of software for work (clampfit). I have a late 2007 Macbook with 10.5.7. There is no boot camp assistant anywhere. This appears to be a known issue: [URL]. I tried to install bootcamp.pkg from the install disk 1. However it makes like a washing machine and crashes (other cd/dvd work fine). Does anyone know where I can download a copy? I haven't time to go to an apple shop to get a new DVD just now. Alternatively, if anyone has it easily accessible and could upload it for me that would be brilliant.

Windows On Mac :: Can't Install Bootcamp 3.0 Win 7 64x

Sep 17, 2009

I've installed Windows 7 64x on my Macbook, now when I insert the Mac OS X disc that came with my Macbook I can install the Bootcamp64 file but when I insert the Snow Leopard disk to install Bootcamp 3.0 I can't install the Bootcamp64 or the 32 bit Bootcamp file. I really want the 3.0 version so that I can have the read capability for the Mac partition in Windows. When I try to install the Bootcamp64 it comes up saying "This installation requires elevated privilages. Launch the installer through setup.exe" When I run it through setup.exe however it comes up with the message saying that it Bootcamp64 is unsupported on this model. The same message would come up when I use the Leopard disks but I was able to bypass this by instaling it through the Bootcamp64 file found in the Apple drivers folder.

Can someone help me out here I need to get Bootcamp 3.0 installed, I think there are some 3rd party apps that can give you HTFS read capability but I don't want use those, I've looked at some they are horrible so don't suggest it!! Also I'm not a 64x fanatic, I'm using Windows64x because you need it to use 4GB ram.

OS X :: Install Bootcamp 3.1 Without Screwing Up?

Jan 21, 2010

I installed Win 7 when it came out using the bootcamp 3.0 that was provided when Snow Leopard came out. The instructions were discussed in many forum, like the drivers for Vista work , you need to have admin access or right click and do this and that... cut to the chase, the bootcamp is working with Win 7 since 2 months for me. How do I install bootcamp 3.1 without screwing up everything that is loaded in bootcamp, the Win 7, Office, other softwares.. specially knowing my Win 7 is OEM. Can the ones who have tried (were in the same spot as me) share their experience ? Or the technically inclined of us share the impacts?

MacBook :: Can't Install XP Through Bootcamp

Feb 20, 2012

First things first, I am running OS 10.7.3 and trying to install using bootcamp. I have so far been able to download and burn the disk for the drivers etc for after installing windows. However when I try and progress to the install of windows and creating the partition I run into a few issues.

First up bootcamp in the progression options only mentions installing windows 7....ignoring that and clicking to the next step I set the amount that I wan't to partition (250GB HDD - partitioning off 50GB) when clicking install I come up against a message saying that the installer disc could not be found. I have no internal disc drive currently as it broke some time back, but I have a samsung external optical drive that I use, loads discs on the computer fine normally, so is it not finding the installer because its not looking for an external drive? Or would it be because it is looking for Windows 7?

I have also tried partitioning the drive using the disc utilities app, although after taking a while about it, it says Partition failed (couldn't modify partition map because file system varification failed) So now I am stumped and can't think of what to try.

Info:MacBook, Mac OS X (10.7.3), Internal optical drive broken
