MacBook Pro :: System Keyboard Options With Water Damage

Jun 11, 2010

I recently spilled a bit of water on my macbook pro. Now the only letters that dont work are a, q, z, the delete buttons and the brightness buttons. Is this a pricey fix? Is there an easy way to fix this? Everything else works perfectly fine except those keys. When i press the delete caps lock comes on.

MacBook Pro :: Take Apart System To Try To Cure Water Damage

Oct 27, 2009

I drunkenly spill wine on my brand new 15" MacBook Pro and get convinced by my (also drunk) girlfriend to submerge the entire thing in plain white rice in order to magically suck the moisture out.The thing won't charge or power on three days of "drying" later. I came across one guy's post that completely taking the laptop apart (guided by an intricate YouTube video) and cleaning the internal components with a special alcohol would solve this nightmare for me. My question:Should I fess up to Apple (who I have ProCare with) or see what an independent repair

Spilled (a lot of )water all over my 2008 13" unibody macbook earlier today. Quickly flipped it over so the keyboard was facing down to the ground, and pulled the power. Surprisingly, it continued running and I cleanly shut it down (yes, managed to do it while it was upside down). Took out the battery. Such a bummer. So I started taking it apart so I could air out all of the components.

MacBook Pro :: Way To Figure Out Water Damage?

Dec 11, 2010

I have a Macbook that I was carrying in my backpack in one of those neoprene cases along with my water bottle (silly, I know...but it hasn't ever spilled prior to now!). I walked around for about 5-10 minutes at which point I noticed the bottom of my backpack was wet. I immediately opened it up and found that there was water on the bottom 2 inches of my case. I pulled my computer out and there was sort of a sheen of water on the front and back 2 inches on the side with all the ports. I then wiped it off. The screen came on when I opened it (it had not been off) but I turned it off and now I have it leaning so that if there is any water in the ports it will drain out.

MacBook Air :: Excessive Water Damage?

May 7, 2012

My MacBook Air was not starting up so I sent it in for a repair. Just got a call that the logic board is corroded and there is excessive water damage. However, I have never split anything on my laptop nor has anyone else. I carry it around with me all the time. I thought at first it might be damage due to a shock as a dropped it a few months ago and it has a slight dent on a corner.

MacBook Air :: Constant Reboot May Be Water Damage?

Dec 22, 2010

I got out the shower n pressed the pause button to stop the music. While that i notice couple of spot of water around my return button just a little. Nothing happened to the computer after using it for about 1 hours. So i left and came home around 7 hours later, got on the macbook air n then it kept prompting the shutdown menu option screen. From there it would just go to constant reboot. Is this due to water damage at all? or is it just a coincidence. Because my black macbook has had way more water on it before n its perfectly fine.

MacBook Pro :: Water Damage - Way To Completely Wipe The Hard Drive

Dec 2, 2009

I spilled coffee all over my MacBook Pro and since it is not covered by AppleCare it will cost $1,200 to fix. I can still turn it on but most of the keyboard isn't working properly. I got it back in July 2007 (15" 2.4ghz 160gb) and I think I'm going to buy a new one. I managed to get all of my school work off of it even thought it took awhile and was very frustrating. My question is, is there anyway to completely wipe the hard drive then sell it? I was trying to look on eBay

MacBook Pro :: Keyboard And Bootcamp Options In A System

Jul 12, 2009

The "return" key goes from being extremely sticky and sluggish to very sharp and responsive by the minute, I'm guessing something is stuck underneath. Is there any way to safely remove the key and clean it?2nd: Bootcamp isn't working very well. After installing Windows XP without problems, the Leopard disk isn't working right. It's reading, and installs all the programs, but afterwards none of the apple keys work (like brightness and volume controls), there's no volume, and the GPU isn't recognized (at least I think this is the problem, if I drag a window across the screen it moves frame by frame

MacBook Air :: Spilled Water On Keyboard

Dec 1, 2008

Almost had a heart attack. I was in the other room and she screamed that she spilled water on it. I ran over, grabbed it, flipped it upside down, turned it off, used an air compressor and paper towels to get whatever water out. Let it off an open overnight and everything appears fine.

She can go back to using her 5 yr old hp brick of a laptop. My MBA is off limits.
And 2 months ago she broke her ipod (gift from me) running on a treadmill.

OS X :: Water Spilled On IMac G4 Keyboard?

Mar 1, 2010

I have an old imac g4 and my wife spilled water on the keyboard (this has finally scored me the opportunity to purchase a new macbook pro). However in the mean time I ran up to walmart and bought a keyboard that said it was universal. As you can tell I am typing so that much is working, but ever since I plugged in the new keyboard I have had no sound. On this keyboard there is no volume control. Any suggestions as to how to get the speakers to work. I have no sound on video from the internet, or music from iTunes. In both situations I have turned the volume on the players up as loud as possible.

OS X :: Keyboard Advice Needed After Liquid Damage

Mar 22, 2010

My problem stems from spilling milk on the keyboard of my mid 2007 white Macbook, and being forced to turn it back on a few hours later because I had to turn assignments in. So, luckily the hard drive and data seem to be fine, but the keyboard has widespread problems of keys not working or phantom sticking. Typing is possible but just too bad for continued use as. What I was wondering is my best option now that I'm here. it seems like my choices are getting my keyboard replaced, using a usb keyboard, or waiting another 24 hours and hoping they dry out, though I'm assuming they're shorted. None of these ideas seem great, and I couldn't find reliable information on how much a Macbook keyboard replacement costs. I'm downright terrible when it comes to disassembling and reassembling computers, but if nothing else is palatable can give it a try. Just looking for the best possible option terms of convenience and cost.

OS X :: New And Used Macbook Startup Options - Cannot Start The System?

I bought a used macbook yesterday morning and everything seemed to be working properly at first, but by the end of the day it started having a problem when booting up. 2 gigs of RAM (updated by previous owner)160 gig Hard Drive (updated by previous owner)Everything else is the same as this listing. The problem: when booting up, the screen turns on, but just remains white, without showing the apple logo and spinning circle. I left it like that for a good 10 minutes, and it never continued to boot, it just stayed in that state. I shut it off, then started it in safe mode, which worked fine. From there I restarted it, and it worked normally. The same thing happened again later (white screen, turn off, boot in safe mode, boot normally).

I have bought 2 USB sound cards with optical audio out, but both are incapable of pass through so they are useless and going to Ebay.It seems they support HDMI Audio out, but is that not restricted to Stereo also (on the Air)? If it isn't it should be quite easy to get the two pins from the HDMI connector and get the digital signal onto a normal RCA plug, but then it still isn't optical and my whole system is based on optical toslinks

I'm really lost. The tech guy at work (not a mac guy) said it could either be a video card problem or the display is failing. When the call finished I played around with the volume settings (from the headset itself, from the keyboard and from within system preferences) to no avail. I removed the headset and plugged it back in. No change. I restarted - no change I shutdown - let things sit for a few minutes and then started up again - no change Here is where it starts to get a little weird. When I play iTunes or some such similar application the volume plays at a normal level but as soon as I use Skype or some other random applications (voice mainly I think) the volume is very low again.
