Dec 11, 2009This is the damage. Everything works expect the backlit keyboards. How much would a repair cost?

View 24 RepliesI spilt some water over my unibody MacBook Pro about 36 hours ago. It was dark, and as the screen didn't respond I assumed that it had shut down, but on closer examination the next morning (after turning it upside down) I found that it was still running. I shut it off then. There didn't seem to be much water inside the MBP, so I tried turning it on just now. It made all the right start-up noises, but nothing on the screen (the Apple logo also wasn't illuminated). I forced it to shut down again right after.
I'm not near a service centre at the moment, so am wondering if I should just wait a few more days, or get it sent in right away? I guess the fact that it starts-up is encouraging, so hopefully the damage is just limited to something connected to the monitor. No water was split over the LCD itself, but I'm guessing some may have entered at the back of the unit, where it connects to the main body. I did almost the exact same thing to my 3yo MB about 2 months ago, and it started working after about 3 days. I guess I should be more careful about what I put near my computer in future!
I am the Apple guy at home. My older sister had our plastic macbook (with a incase purple cover on it) and spilt water on it. The battery was low too. So I connect the charger to it, and it doesn't recognize it. I took the case off, and checked it, but the innards are not wet, only the cover.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI spilt water on my macbook pro, and wasn't smart enough to let it dry out. When I plug it into charge, no light from the charger comes on. When I turn on the computer, it starts up, the screen is still pitch black.... but if I look close enough I barely can see my startup screen. I am thinking about replacing the logic board? What should I do about this situation. I don't want to spend a ridiculous amount of money at the apple store to have this replace.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI have a MBP on OS X version 10.6.8, the mid-2009 model. The problem: I can't get my keyboard to light up. When I press on the F5 and F6 button I see the image of the keyboard light pop up on the screen but it has a line through it telling me I can't do it. These feature worked a couple days ago, and I didn't change any settings since then. I have tried everything. I made sure the settings were right and reset them. I have tried to update my software which told me I was up to date. I have put my laptop in a pitch black room. I have covered the sensors. I have done an SMC reset as well as a PRAM reset. None of these things worked. I did download the LabTick app, which then I was able to light up my keyboard but I don't want to have to use a 3rd party application. I would like to have my keyboard adjust automatically. I have uninstalled LabTick.

I have tried messing with the keyboard settings as well as the F5 and F6 buttons. The keyboard does not even come on in low lit conditions. Why is my backlit keyboard no longer working?

My backlit keyboard just randomly stops working. I can restart the computer and sometimes it starts working, but sometimes it doesn't. Any idea what is affecting this?

View 5 Replies View RelatedA few days ago I knocked over my tea on my new MacBook Pro. (I bought it less that 2 months ago.) I quickly soaked it up, blew a lot out with compressed air, and turned it upside down to let it dry. When I turned it back on I noticed a few keys were sticking. I did my research and one suggestion said to put a drop of water and/or alcohol on the key and just work with it. I know this may sound stupid, but I felt more comfortable with this than to start trying to remove keys. I dried it again and everything seems to be in working order.
All the keys work, and as far as I can tell the internal is okay (unless the sugar/tea is slowly eating away at it, which just makes me sick to think about). The right side of my keyboard, where my tea was spilt, doesn't light up as bright as the left. Is that because I damaged the light, or the tea stained the keys a different color. Does this mean I'm going to have to remove keys to get it clean anyways? Or should I just count my blessings, ignore it, and never drink near my Mac again?
So I spilt a cup of apple juice over my Alum. Macbook and it seemed fine at the time after I tried to dry it. But now around 5 or 6 of the keys are really sticky, and take a while for them 'rise' again after being pressed. Has anyone got any tips on how to clean the keyboard properly? Or should I just take it into Apple?
View 17 Replies View RelatedI am considering whether or not I will get the backlit keyboard model or not. I want to save $300, but I also want to be able to see the keys (within reason).
I like my current PBG4's backlit keyboard, and sometimes find it necessary, however, it does have low contrast silver keys with white lettering. Since the Macbooks have black keys with white lettering, and therefore more contrast, I am wondering if this will improve visibility in low light conditions enough so I won't have to have the backlight.
Do any of you have the new MacBook sans backlit keyboard, and if so what are your impressions of being able to see the keys in a dim (not dark) room?
I've searched and it seems no more backlit keyboard?

View 16 Replies View RelatedI went to the apple store the other day to see if the top case of my (late 2008) MacBook's top case could be replaced (due to some sort of discoloration in the metal). Anyway, they are replacing it free of charge, but i was just wondering if i could tell them to use the top case of the 2.4 GHz MacBook (I have the 2.0 GHz, doesn't include backlit keyboard). I realllllllly want this backlit keyboard, and a replacement by myself is totally out of the question. Please help, i really need a shiny keyboard
View 1 Replies View RelatedI would believe having your backlit keyboard on max would kill the life span of the led lights? curious to know if anyone has it on max majority of the time to have the laptop look fancier rather then those who use the backlit accordingly to prolong its life time.
But in the cases for those who do set the backlit keyboard on max for a long time (speaking of months, even years) any issues with it? any led lights or keys breaking or stopped working?
Almost had a heart attack. I was in the other room and she screamed that she spilled water on it. I ran over, grabbed it, flipped it upside down, turned it off, used an air compressor and paper towels to get whatever water out. Let it off an open overnight and everything appears fine.
She can go back to using her 5 yr old hp brick of a laptop. My MBA is off limits.
And 2 months ago she broke her ipod (gift from me) running on a treadmill.
i tried researching but could not find anything. I just purchased the macbook pro 2.4ghz this past week and the backlit keyboard light is white while ive seen other videos where the light looks more blue than white. Are the newer models coming with a white backlit keyboard?

Backlit Keyboard?: No
Essentially my problem is that I'm unable to set new shortcuts for the F5 and F6 keys for my Silver Macbook. Since it doesn't have a backlit keyboard, there's no function for F5 and F6. I'd like to make them go to shortcuts such as "Show Desktop" and "Spaces", both of which are supported under the "Keyboard Shortcuts" Tab of "Keyboard & Mouse". So, I have them configured to match up to F5 and F6, but they do not activate the corresponding function when pressed.
I have the "Use function keys as standard function keys" checkmark unset:I apologize for the fairly small problem...I just really want to free up those two keys! I appreciate any response.
I was recently using my backlit keyboard of pretty much the first time and I realized that middle right side of the keyboard is slightly dimmer that the other side. I can still see the keys and its not a huge difference but its enough to be noticeable and somewhat distracting.

View 6 Replies View RelatedNote the F keys on the 11 inch, and the new power button. What's missing? Also note the lack of the word 'backlit' in the descriptions for either machine. Both machines have the same keyboard, just to eliminate the power button in the name of aesthetics.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm excited about the re-vamped MacBook Air, and am considering a 13" model. Much to my dismay, no illuminated keyboard anymore! I understand keeping certain options only for the Pro to encourage upgrading, but this one may be a deal-breaker.
Since the keys are the same style, would it be possible to take off all the keys, swap out the board underneath and replace it all with the backlit counterparts from the older MacBook Air? What all would be involved?
I could be wrong, but I did not hear anything about Apple revising the Backlit Keyboard on their new MBPs that came out early June. Was this not made public for a reason or just small upgrade that needed no advertising? Or am I totally living on another planet and everyone knew about this? I checked one out for the first time today and.... now, there is a light sensor(next to the cam) to automatically turn the Backlit Keyboard off during daylight when you don't need it - to save battery life. it makes sense, but personally I want the option to always have it off to save battery, no matter the conditions around. I just found a reason to not want a 13" MBP over my uni MB New MBPs Users (June 09 or later) - is there customization with this new feature?

I have a Macbook Pro 13in. It is not a retina. I just bought it from apple. Anyway it works fine I just noticed one thing about the keyboard and I'm sort of new to macs.
OK so the backlight on the keyboard times out after 5 sec (that's what I have it set to) the thing is the light will come back on after it times out when you move the mouse or touch the trackpad, but not if you start typing. I noticed that shift, fn, control, alt/options, and Fkeys will bring it back. The peculiar thing though is that while I'm typing, that will keep the light on. Soon as i stop for 5 sec won't just turn on if I start typing again, gotta hit one of those keys or touch the pad.
I could just set the timer longer, but idk seems like a minor flaw. Unfortunately I can kind of see that, however there does seem to be hotkeys. Just as long as one could customize them, maybe add the entire keyboard.
