I was reading through some posts about protecting a MBP and a poster mentioned he was getting a cover for his keyboard so as not to damage the screen. I heard about this before a long time ago, but how common is it now with the new uMB or uMBP. I just changed sides for the better so be nice please. 13" 2.53
View 6 RepliesOn google I found some suggestions about the keyboard able to damage Matte screens on older MBP. Is this still an issue in 2010? In other words, do I need to put something between the Matte screen and the keyboard when the lid is closed?

The twist is that she did not shut her mbp off and carried it over open in a downpour. Needless to say it was absolutely drenched. Fortunately the computer suffered no side affects. I personally have spilled a drink on mine (I proceeded to turn it off and remove the battery) but I suffered no side affects. So out of curiosity, do MBs/MBPs have sealed keyboards to prevent against liquid damage?

I just ordered a new aluminum macbook and wanted to get a microfiber cloth to put over the keyboard when it's closed. The only ones I can find in the store are part of a 30 dollar set that contains a bunch of stuff I don't want/need. Anybody know a good place to get one of these?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've notice the bottom arrow on my arrow keys, located on the bottom right corner of the keyboard doesn't have as springy of a bounce as it once did. About 3 days ago I got the impression it kinda felt a bit sticky. Having a baby brother I'm fearing the worst. The performance of my MBP hasn't changed at all, however having only 4 months left allowed to purchase and extend AppleCare I wouldn't want to buy it for no reason. That and I always like to rest assured my Mac is in pristine condition.

Is there an easy way to fix this? Everything else works perfectly fine except those keys. When i press the delete caps lock comes on.

A wonderful Macbook Air has been recenly given to me as a present, but I have an obsession: I have read somewhere that the keyboard is set into the upper case, so that is impossible to replace it without spending half of the money this computer costs.generally i hate to exaggerate with protections, but I just wondering what is the normal time of usury of the keyboard (supposed in a daliy usage..)..Does it wear out prematurely before the other components of the computer, or it will be ruined when my Macbook is a rattletrap?In other words: shall I buy a cheap chinese keboard cover using it from time to time or a more expensive one (such as Moshi or iSkin) for an every-day usage?

So far, I've purchased one off eBay and a Logiix branded one, but I'm not completely satisfied with either one. I don't like how the molding for each key from the eBay one is slightly larger than the actual keys, and that it leaves an imprint on the LCD when the lid is closed, however, it is quiet and typing doesn't require any extra effort. The Logiix one resembles Moshi's Clearguard, where the fitment for the Fn keys is slightly longer at the top. The molding for this one fits like a glove, but typing feels unnatural and it is noticeably noisier. I think the noise comes from the silicone being pinched between the small gap around each key when they are pressed. Typing seems to require more effort because of this. I would like to know if other brands with an exact keyboard fit molding also suffer from this noise issue. Looking around for reviews, I am now somewhat interested inRearth Verco's product. They explain that their silicone molding's thickness around the edges of each key is much thinner than it is in the centre, therefore it requires less effort to press each key. From photos, it appears that the Moshi's Clearguard also has this design.
I have a new MBA, 13" which I'm loving so far. I like the screen bright - like almost all the way up all the time. Other than shortening my battery life, will this setting cause any damage to the screen?

For eye comfort, and to prevent retinal after-images, I'd like all the aluminum dull black. I found tape and fabric to cover up most of the top case and the bezel, but the keyboard is a challenge. KBCovers does not produce a keyboard cover which will be black at the bases of the keys and clear over the keys, which would allow the backlit keyboard to transmit. So first choice is a keyboard cover which has black everywhere there's aluminum, and has clear for the keys. Second choice is an all clear keybooard cover and I'll adhere black to the aluminum around the keys (and top case).

Never understood Apple's engineering design of making a screen anti-glare and anti-reflective, while making the remainder of the computer glaring and reflective and contrasting. Ye olde black MacBook is such an eye-pleasing and comfortable design.
My problem stems from spilling milk on the keyboard of my mid 2007 white Macbook, and being forced to turn it back on a few hours later because I had to turn assignments in. So, luckily the hard drive and data seem to be fine, but the keyboard has widespread problems of keys not working or phantom sticking. Typing is possible but just too bad for continued use as. What I was wondering is my best option now that I'm here. it seems like my choices are getting my keyboard replaced, using a usb keyboard, or waiting another 24 hours and hoping they dry out, though I'm assuming they're shorted. None of these ideas seem great, and I couldn't find reliable information on how much a Macbook keyboard replacement costs. I'm downright terrible when it comes to disassembling and reassembling computers, but if nothing else is palatable can give it a try. Just looking for the best possible option terms of convenience and cost.

My disc drive isn't working at all - it doesn't even accept the disc or make a noise to accpet it/eject it. It doesn't make any noise when I click the eject button or do anything.
I had a repair done to my mac a few weeks ago when the graphics card stopped working, I've only just attempted to put a disc in since - I don't know if the repair could have effected it at all.

I took the back cover off and checked the power connector - it looked just slightly angled out so it probably was getting intermittent power [over last 2 weeks it would come on and but sometimes not until it died completely today]. Anyway, once I took the back cover off from the back [above the battery] and made sure the connector was secure it worked fine now. Might be a good tip for someone vs the time to go to the apple store.

Me being the usual paranoid person I am, I'm worried that I might be doing damage to my 27" iMac that I've had for a few months after reading a thread over in the iPhone forum. In the thread for the iPhone someone was using windex to clean his iPhone and he was being warned about rubbing off some kind of coating. I use the little bottle of eyeglass cleaner that came with my eyeglasses and a microfiber clothing thinking that if it's not supposed to scratch my glasses it won't scratch the screen either. I'm gonna switch over to warm water from here on out, but did I do any damage thus far? I don't believe the iMac glass has any kind of coating but I may be mistaken.
View 6 Replies View RelatedSo I got my Moshi Anti-Glare screen cover for my late 08 15" uMBP. I like it. It DOES make a difference, and I like having a little protection for my screen. It makes the blacks a little more grey, mostly noticeable in natural light and if you're looking at the screen from a bit of an angle. It's not as prominent from dead on. Honestly, I didn't like it immediately after I put it on. Of course, I just dropped 40 bucks on it so I wasn't about to get rid of it! Now it looks totally natural to me. I didn't take pictures of the actual cover before I installed it, but it was a breeze. Came with a little microfiber cloth to get dust/prints off before you install. The adhesive is only on the black border of the screen. No air bubble issues at all, and it lines up super easy. On the cover, the border is also black, but clears out to show the MacBook Pro on the bottom. For the iSight camera, it clears and ALSO has a hole for the lens, so there is nothing covering your camera (which was a concern of mine. I would have just cut a hole for it, but I appreciate not having to bust out scissors) it's a little disappointing in intense natural light, like in the picture, but it really shines in an office environment. I'm ok with that, since that's where all my eye-strain was coming from. If I do any work with natural light that I can't control with blinds or moving to another couch, it's not gonna be that serious. Overall, I'd love to not spend 40 bucks for a piece of thin plastic, but no sense in complaining about the Mac accessory market now =) I do recommend it, and if for some reason I get another glossy notebook, I will be getting this most definitely.... though I think I'll be better off getting an anti-glare screen from the get go.
