MacBook Pro :: Reattaching MBP Ribbon Cable From Keyboard To Logicboard?

Jan 16, 2010

I was doing an upgrade of the hard drive in a MBP and unfortunately when I removed the keyboard the ribbon cable attaching it to the MBP's Logic Board came off and I can't figure out how to reattach it. I know it there has to be a way to reattach it but I don't want to attach it wrong and have something short out. How would I go about reattaching it?

MacBook :: Broken Top Case Ribbon Cable (Keyboard And Trackpad)

Jun 2, 2010

Unfortunately I seem to have broken the cable to the top case (keyboard and trackpad) of my older black MacBook 4,1 A1181. A top case from another black MacBook works immediately on the machine, so I know the error is found and I need the top case fixed now. Do you know if it's possible to fix/replace that cable, or do I need to buy a whole new topcase with both keyboard and trackpad?

PowerPC :: Powerbook G4 Logic Board - Fat Ribbon Cable

May 29, 2008

I have a powerbook g4 15" 1.5Ghz. My VRAM is shot and my computer keeps on going into panic mode or gets hot and just stalls and I have too reboot manually. I just purchased another logic board off of ebay, yes I'm a very brave guy, I installed the new/used logic board and I now see that the ribbon cable recepticles for the keyboard and finger pad are not on the new logic board. Obviously I bought the wrong board. Is it possible to still use it somehow like buy a new top plate or buy an external keybord? The top plate I have now has the fat ribbon cable and also the small one. Can I just get the proper cables? If so which ones are they?

When I came home it was not working. I've let it sit for two days w no luck. I have heard that I could possibly clean the logicboard w alcohol as a last resort. Anyone familiar w this process? I'm also curious about USB enclsoures to retrieve info from assumingly undamaged hard drive.

MacBook Pro :: Indication Of The Faulty GPU Or The Ribbon Connection To The Screen

Jan 16, 2010

Our non-unibody MBP is flickering bluish colors on the left half of the screen. It happens randomly, but frequently. It can be stopped by pulling the screen towards me slightly, enough to put tension on the hinge, but not actually moving it towards me. Is this an indication of the faulty GPU or the ribbon connecting the screen?

IMac :: Won't Turn On - Psu Or Logicboard

Nov 28, 2010

I've done some searching and haven't come up with an exact answer to my questions. Hopefully you guys can help me out! My 2008 24" iMac won't turn on. No fans, no HDD, nothing. This happened after a power surge, so I'm assuming it's toast. I took it to the Apple Store and they told me that it is either the logic board or the power supply but couldn't tell me which. It would seem to me that since it isn't doing anything when it's turned on that it's the power supply. Does that seem like a logical answer? If so, I think I'll go on and order the psu from the ifixit store and do the work my self.

Software :: Office For Mac 2011 To Feature Co-authoring Ribbon Interface?

Feb 11, 2010

Microsoft on Thursday detailed some of the new features in its forthcoming Office for Mac 2011 suite, including co-authoring tools, Web apps, and a redesigned ribbon interface more consistent with its Windows counterpart.

Microsoft is a part of Macworld 2010 expo in San Francisco this week, and has used the event to divulge details on its forthcoming update to Office for Mac, expected to arrive later this year.

"Together with your team -- officemates, family or classmates -- you are part of the community that helps shape each version of Office for Mac," said Eric Wilfrid, MacBU general manager at Microsoft Corp. "Youve told us that working together across platforms is a priority to you and thats why we are making Office for Mac 2011 the best, most compatible productivity suite on the Mac."

Pricing for the new version has not yet been made available, and a company official told Mary-Jo Foley of ZDNet that Microsoft is looking into support for the forthcoming Apple iPad, though it has nothing to announce at this time. Apple will sell multi-touch versions of Numbers, Pages and Keynote -- part of its competing iWork suite -- for the iPad for $9.99 each, and Pages will allow users to save documents as Microsoft Word files.

Microsoft revealed Thursday that the co-authoring tools in Office 2011 will allow multiple users the ability to work on files from Word, PowerPoint or Excel from different locations. The Presence Everywhere feature gives real-time updates on who is working on the document directly in the application.

Microsoft Web Apps can also be accessed from within Office 2011, allowing users to share Office documents from any machine with an Internet connection.

The addition of a ribbon layout to Office for Mac hasn't completely rearranged the design users have become accustomed to, Microsoft said. Instead, it gives "the best of both worlds" by using the classic Mac menu and Standard Toolbar.

"Together these tools make it easy to find and discover new and frequently used commands," the company's press release said. "In fact, more than 80 percent of the most used features live in the default view of our new user experience so you don't have to waste time finding the tool you need."

The company also previously announced that it would include a brand new version of Outlook built as a Cocoa application from the ground up for the Mac platform. The company has said its new Outlook will make the application attractive, give it high performance, and integrate it with the Mac OS X operating system.

Microsoft also announced Thursday that Outlook for Mac would allow importing of .PST files from Outlook for Windows, which it said was one of the top requests from customers. The new Outlook will also allow Spotlight search and backup support from Time Machine.
