I want to start modding my macbook and had a few questions. When replacing the topcase, is it hard to re-apply the ribbon that connects the topcase to its connector? And how would I go about removing and re-attaching the screen bezel? Is it difficult?

Unfortunately I seem to have broken the cable to the top case (keyboard and trackpad) of my older black MacBook 4,1 A1181. A top case from another black MacBook works immediately on the machine, so I know the error is found and I need the top case fixed now. Do you know if it's possible to fix/replace that cable, or do I need to buy a whole new topcase with both keyboard and trackpad?
View 4 Replies View RelatedIn my ongoing project, my next goal is to see if I can't alter the blue plastic outer case (the stuff on the front, top, and back), the foggyish white panels on the side, and the apples in the middle of them. I already have everything separated and I have no intention of putting it back together until it looks different somehow. Maybe if I could change some of it from foggy to glossy or (ideally) clear (blue seethru would be very spiffy).
View 3 Replies View RelatedI dropped my MacBook Pro only about 12 inches and the corner of the shell where the Magsafe connector is located was bent slightly inward. When connected to the AC power there is enough power going through to run the laptop. However, the battery is not charging and now has no green lights when I push the button on the battery. I checked and the battery has been through 129 cycles so should still be good. I'm assuming that means something was damaged with the Magsafe connection when the corner was dented. Does anyone have any advice? How much it would cost to repair the Magsafe connector? My MacBook Pro was purchased in 2007 and I have no other issues with it. Would it be worth repairing or should I get a new one?

I was wanting to know how hard it is to change top and bottom case and keyboard area? I would like to know that if anything was to happen to my soon to have macbook I could change it. Also this on the older macbooks. And if I have Apple to change it how much would it cost? And yes I know that they should replace keyboard case area for free because of the defunct cracking issue.

I just took apart an old logitech controller, but the port will only fit for the one for the extra buttons, and I cant change the hardware encoded in the controller.

Does anybody know how I would go about doing something like this? Not sure what connections are on the isight for mbp....
as I don't want to shell out $150+ on a real iSight camera, nor do I want to pay for a new mac with isight...
I would just go for a Logitech, but with mac they don't support autofocus (even though it claims too, all the reviews I've read say it doesn't work).
I was doing an upgrade of the hard drive in a MBP and unfortunately when I removed the keyboard the ribbon cable attaching it to the MBP's Logic Board came off and I can't figure out how to reattach it. I know it there has to be a way to reattach it but I don't want to attach it wrong and have something short out. How would I go about reattaching it?
View 2 Replies View RelatedOur non-unibody MBP is flickering bluish colors on the left half of the screen. It happens randomly, but frequently. It can be stopped by pulling the screen towards me slightly, enough to put tension on the hinge, but not actually moving it towards me. Is this an indication of the faulty GPU or the ribbon connecting the screen?

I'm having a hard time trying to pin down what type of SATA connector the MBA rev C is using for its storage.
I found this DVnation page that lists 3 possible rev. C MBA ssd upgrades, but it is only mentioned that the connector type is Micro-SATA. Does this mean that the Intel X18 is as of rev C also suitable for the MBA (or any other regular 1.8" SATA ssd or hdd for that matter)?
Today I connected my macbook pro to my LED Cinema Display and the MagSafe connector's light was blinking like a hard disk's status light. Is this normal?... it's blinking rapidly like when the light of an external HD is showing the disk is in use. Something like that.
I just checked the battery status in iStats and it's giving me a 91% healthe.. . How could that be if this mac is 6 months old.
I have a late 2008 Macbook Pro 15" with the 2.53 GHz 6MB L2 cache processor and the 512 MB 9600GT. While tearing it down, I accidentally took the entire fan connector of the leftside fan completely off the logic board. I took it to the Apple store, where they said that they wanted $1,500 to buy a new logic board. I have this weird feeling that they are trying to rip me off, and that they could have repaired the fan connector. Does anyone have a method to reattach the connector or something? It doesn't matter if it will void the warranty because it's already expired.

I understand that the new one is made of aluminum and is more streamlined and will not bend off when using the computer on your lap. But the parallel configuration of the cord means it's either getting in the way of all your ports or you have to loop it to the back, which isn't always the best solution when you're on the go. I also noticed that the MagSafe wobbles a bit when it's connected, and the magnetic force doesn't seem to be as strong.
The MagSafe on my 2009 MacBook Pro 13" is solid. Perfect fit, great attachment strength, and I actually find the perpendicular cord placement more convenient for my uses. The white plastic tip doesn't match as well with the aluminum unibody, but it's not a problem for me.
Anyone else with me on this one?
I'm thinking about buying one of the Hypermac External Batteries ([URL]) for traveling and such.
They offer their models with either the old Magsafe connector or the new, silver, tubular connector. I would prefer the tubular connector, but I have the old style MBP (non-unibody).
Is the new style connector compatible with the old style MBP?
Im fixing up a macbook, and there was problems with the battery connector. So I pulled it out. But on the LB there were only 9 holes (6 on one side, 3 on the other) and no hole where the 7th ones should be. And on the connector in those spots it was the same thing, but what is even weirder, is that it doesnt even look like the pins were broken off, just that there was nothing there, and on the top it doesnt have any solder on those points. Any ideas what to do and how to do it??? And if you want i can post pictures.

It eventually froze up, I took the battery out and put it back in. Previously, in the past this has worked to get it back on. However, now I cannot get it back on.

I have no idea what it is but on my sheet it falls under the symptom "Enclosure - Mechanical/Cosmetic Damaged". I had this replaced once before but I don't know what it is.
THe two times it has been replaced both the battery and the top case have been replaced as well. What is it? Anybody know?
