IMac :: Won't Turn On - Psu Or Logicboard

Nov 28, 2010

I've done some searching and haven't come up with an exact answer to my questions. Hopefully you guys can help me out! My 2008 24" iMac won't turn on. No fans, no HDD, nothing. This happened after a power surge, so I'm assuming it's toast. I took it to the Apple Store and they told me that it is either the logic board or the power supply but couldn't tell me which. It would seem to me that since it isn't doing anything when it's turned on that it's the power supply. Does that seem like a logical answer? If so, I think I'll go on and order the psu from the ifixit store and do the work my self.

Mac Pro :: Cpu Logicboard Compatibility

Apr 10, 2010

I am trying to find out what cpu's and logicboards are compatible (PM G5).

I recently aquired a 2Ghz DP G5, that had a problem with it's logicboard. I want to buy a new logicboard and use the same 2Ghz's cpu's. Do I need to find a logicboard that has the exact same modelnumber as the cpu's (630-6892/T6889)?

MacBook Pro :: Cleaning Logicboard W Alcohol?

Nov 6, 2009

I recently spilled a small amount(tblspn at most) of milk into my g4 PowerBook. After the spill, I kept it on for a few hours (I now know to remove battery and powerdown immediately). When I came home it was not working. I've let it sit for two days w no luck. I have heard that I could possibly clean the logicboard w alcohol as a last resort. Anyone familiar w this process? I'm also curious about USB enclsoures to retrieve info from assumingly undamaged hard drive.

IMac :: Can You Turn On Monitor Only With New 27

Oct 26, 2009

I am seriously considering the possibility of using the 27in iMac as an external monitor with my MBP when I am home and need the extra monitor space. That would also allow my family to use the iMac when I am away at work or out of town. Since my MBP has a Mini DisplayPort, it should be as easy as connecting the MDP from the laptop to the MDP on the back of the iMac and then connecting the USB for audio? However if the iMac is turned on, how can I use the monitor without the actual computer running at the same time?

my iMac won't turn on - seems dead. It's a white one (out of warranty), and am taking it to a genius bar near here. I think it has to to with the internal power supply, could that be? Doesn't sound like a logic board problem, as it won't turn on. Also, will I have to pay for the genius bar?
