Get a circle with a line through it on startup?

I've read the posts regarding this issue and have
1) Reset the PRAM
2) Successfully viewed the choice of both of my startup disks
3) Had success starting up in Safe Mode
When I restart after Safe Boot, I get the same no-go. What now?

I know this is bad, I have tried starting with the shift key held down but no good.Â
I'm reinstalling OSX Lion and I got as far as Command- R and the computer restarted and has been on a blank screen with a circle with a line going through it and the cursor has been spinning for about 50 min now....it never gave me an option to click reinstall What is it doing? Is it removing the current OSX?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was troubleshooting an issue my brother was having with his Macbook over downloading files, installed Firefox for him, ran Apple updates and while the updates were installing the computer froze. He restarted it, and on startup he got a circle with a slash through it. I've been googling and checking forums and I tried booting into safe mode (Shift at startup, I believe?), and putting in the OS X disc that came with it and booting from that (C at startup?) but I get nothing. It just goes from the Apple with the loading circle, to the picture of the slash circle. I'm not really sure on the specs of the computer or the OS version, as I'm rarely on it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was minding my own business, listening to iTunes and chatting on Adium, when the little spinning wheel came up and my desktop froze - no big deal I thought, and restarted it. But on load up, all I was getting was a little 'No Entry circle with line through it' style symbol on the grey screen. After browsing various forums I tried to reset the pram, then I tried holding down 'x' on start up, at which point a very loud noise happened and now all I'm getting is a flashing folder with a ? in it appear, for about 2 minutes after which my MacBook turns off!
I've tried putting in my OS X install disk and holding down 'c' and 'd' on start up, but nothing is working? When I restard with the Option key held down; i get a 'EFI Boot' logo and a little arrow, which when I click; nothing happens I'm not in warranty and I don't have Apple Care There's nothing important on my harddrive so I don't care about losing Files, I just want to be able to re-install OS X 10.4, or restart it or what ever.
On restart after software update, apple logo is replaced by circle with diagonal line and won't continue.

i tried several things like zapping the PRAM, open firmware, and taking out RAM. also took out my pci wireless card and usb card. nothing helped, but eventually it booted up. i thought that the hard drive was probably dead but i couldnt boot off a tiger install disc when i tried.its been having problems starting up everyday since then. sometimes it will boot with the circle spinning and just stay there. other times it will boot with some junk on the screen and the restart message underneath, boot up with no spinning circle, or have the apple change to a circle with a slash through it

My small diary falls on the right hand bottom corner of the macbook pro 13inch laptop. Everything on screen freezes. After waiting for some time I press and hold shut down button. Since then grey screen loading icon loads halfway and then grey screen with circle and slash appear. I tried booting up by pressing command and r .. same process repeats. I then tried alt boot up... the screen shows mac hd and network connection dropdown. I choose the network and press on upward key.. nothing happens. When I tried a safe mode using shift key it shows the error ....

Double poll here. There are two questions:
How much DATA do you have Oo-line?
This is data and not total capacity. This includes all your on-line data: music, images, video, the OS, all of it. It doesn't include back-up data even if it's on-line like Time Machine tho. Just active data.
And of the on-line storage devices used for that DATA totally, what % are they filled to?
For example if you had two 500 GB drives and about 400 GB of data you would answer:
"I have < 500 GB of DATA on-line." and,"My on-line storage is between 25% and 50% full.".
i'm having some issues recording in garage band which should hopefully be easy to clear up. i record an instrumental track into garage band through the line-in jack in the back. the track shows up in garage band just fine and plays, but i'm running into trouble recording while that track is playing. i plug my headphones in so i can try to hear the track while i am recording vocals, but i am unable to hear the track. i checked the inputs/outputs in system preferences and output is set to headphones, microphone is set to line in. so i'm not too sure what it could be.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently just purchased a new macbook less than a week ago. This is also my first mac that I have ever owned. I just noticed today that when I turn the brightness all the way down, or when I go away from my computer and my screen turns black that there is a circle in the middle of my screen which I can still see what is going on in the background. Its not like its bright but you can still notice it.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've had this problem since Friday with my Mac Pro (March 2009) and haven't been able to solve it.
On Friday my speakers suddenly stopped working. After first having confirmed that the speakers were working with another source, I tried headphones both in frontal headphone slot and with the analog line out in the back, both without success. There's a red light in the optical audio out, indicating that it's on for some reason, although I have selected different audio out source. The internal speaker works just fine, only the normal audio out doesn't give me anything.
I found a thread in the MBP section similar to this problem, but solutions for MBP didn't work.

Has anyone seen and solved the issue of receiving a white screen on reboot with a slashed circle? Prior to rebooting the computer was running V-E-R-Y slowly. I saved my work and rebooted only to receive this screen.

I was went onto updates and clicked install to a new Java update. Then apple update froze with a multi colored circle. I use force quit which worked, but some other apps wouldn't open after this and just sat there bouncing on the dock for ages. So next I selected restart from the apple menus and it was going through the shutdown process but didn't complete and just left my desktop sitting there. After 10 minutes, I help in the power button to manually shut it down, now it has restarted its all fine. What do you think could have happened, I have had it on for the past 3 days only sleeping it.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI left my mac turned off for roughly a month. When I turned the computer on, the gray apple screen and the load bar appeared to start up the computer. Shortly into the loading process, the loading circle appeared (rotating circle seen to indicate loading in programs such as iMovie and Safari etc). The start up load bar disappeared and the load circle has now been rotating infinitely. I have tried pressing command+r and turning off the mac and turning it back on. I have plugged it into a power source. It won't let me past this gray screen. How do I get into my mac?

I have a 2008 Aluminum Body MacBook and recently its been working extremely slow. I always get the colorful circle thing on the mouse pointer every time I try to click on anything. I was wondering if anyone had this problem before and what you did to fix this? Or if anyone knew how to fix this problem.

My line out port on my late 2007 white macbook recently died and I no longer have AppleCare. I never use the line in port on my computer and use the line out quite alot. I have tried all kinds of fixes to fix the problem but nothing works. I would like to use the line in port as a line out port. I am not sure if this is possible so I thought I would ask here if anyone knew of a way.
