MacBook Pro :: Continuous Rotating Circle - Start Up Load Bar Disappeared
Mar 4, 2012
I left my mac turned off for roughly a month. When I turned the computer on, the gray apple screen and the load bar appeared to start up the computer. Shortly into the loading process, the loading circle appeared (rotating circle seen to indicate loading in programs such as iMovie and Safari etc). The start up load bar disappeared and the load circle has now been rotating infinitely. I have tried pressing command+r and turning off the mac and turning it back on. I have plugged it into a power source. It won't let me past this gray screen. How do I get into my mac?

ive tried resetting safari and even restarting the macbook but i dont know what can be causing it.

My Macbook Pro is not starting past the grey screen and the apple logo and the rolling circle. I have tried every method and I am desperate to do anything to start my computer even erase the entire disc. I have contacted the Apple store and they told me the cost will be equivalent to $600 to just repair it and no way I will be able to afford it. I am willing to do anything and even erase my entire disc. However, for that the instructions on the Apple page state that 'Insert your Mac OS X 10.4 or 10.5 installation disc'. However, I do not have my installation disc Is there any other way I can erase the OS system and at least reboot my Macbook?

I was minding my own business, listening to iTunes and chatting on Adium, when the little spinning wheel came up and my desktop froze - no big deal I thought, and restarted it. But on load up, all I was getting was a little 'No Entry circle with line through it' style symbol on the grey screen. After browsing various forums I tried to reset the pram, then I tried holding down 'x' on start up, at which point a very loud noise happened and now all I'm getting is a flashing folder with a ? in it appear, for about 2 minutes after which my MacBook turns off!
I've tried putting in my OS X install disk and holding down 'c' and 'd' on start up, but nothing is working? When I restard with the Option key held down; i get a 'EFI Boot' logo and a little arrow, which when I click; nothing happens I'm not in warranty and I don't have Apple Care There's nothing important on my harddrive so I don't care about losing Files, I just want to be able to re-install OS X 10.4, or restart it or what ever.

i tried several things like zapping the PRAM, open firmware, and taking out RAM. also took out my pci wireless card and usb card. nothing helped, but eventually it booted up. i thought that the hard drive was probably dead but i couldnt boot off a tiger install disc when i tried.its been having problems starting up everyday since then. sometimes it will boot with the circle spinning and just stay there. other times it will boot with some junk on the screen and the restart message underneath, boot up with no spinning circle, or have the apple change to a circle with a slash through it

My Late '11 15inch Macbook Pro went bonanas today. When it starts up there all these black horizontal lines running across the screen jiggering jabbering everywhere and I see three apple logos (due to GPU glitch I am guessing) after loading everything goes white and my laptop heats up and battery dies within like half an hour. I was bummed but then like after restarting a bunch of times and recharging my laptop it starting up normal again! I was super happy, but then it experienced the same crash next time the battery died. So, this has been going on and off;

I am shooting a film using a 35mm adapter, which flips the image upside down. I'll be capturing directly to laptop. Is there any software solution (Nvidia video card) to flip the screen? Or is there capture software that can flip the image? I know you can flip in post, but we are using the Macbook Pro as a sort of makeshift video monitor, as well as capture device, to get accurate focus and to make camera work easier.

Is there any reason why I can't have my macs background change every 5 seconds without it affecting what I'm doing on the screen at the time? It makes the computer slow while it's happening I really wanted to be able to have it rotate but not if it's going to choke the computer up. The mac is the current 2.4ghz 4gb model

Something is wrong with my HDD.
I don't think it's dead but something to do with the indexing of the HDD.
I can go into target firewire mode and i am backing up my data as we speak. However I do not have a big external HDD that i can back up everything so I have to pick and choose.
I have diskwarrior but it does not boot up. It says cannot find boot hdd or something and shows a No entry sign on the grey loading screen with the spinning gear.
I tried disk utility to repair the HDD but it says it tries three times and fails. Cannot locate the index file. I think this is my main problem here.
If i try and boot in verbose mode it shows this [URL] something message and repeats that it cannot locate the file. I dont even know what this is as i've never been to this website.
Anyway I can repair the index file and see if mac os x will boot up? Or you recommend a fresh install?
I just want to boot the mac once so i can look for some files because spotlight wont work since it says its trying to index the macintosh HD from firewire.

i was playing Diablo3 when i suddenly experienced heavy, unusual lag. I tried to reboot to see if that could even things out. No success. It took longer then usual to boot up, and when i finally reached the login-windows asking for password, it wouldent react to my typing and clicking for about 5 minutes. I could move around the mouse and the keyboard did get signal (it un-dimmed the scren when i pushed any key after letting it dim over time).Â
Then i tried to do a clean install of OS X Snow Leopard (formating the drive and then install). After longer then usual, reached the "choose your language" window. This window too had extreem long respond-time. I managed to start the installation but it stopped at 33minutes remaining, giving me the "Install Failed" window. this told me "Mac OS X could not be installed on your computer. The installer could not copy the necessary support fies. Click restart to restart your computer and try again.". I tried it again but it gave me the same result.Â
it made me believe the hardware was the problem. First i swapped the Optical Drive with an older vrsion MacBook (2008), this gave me the same install-problem (stopped at 33mins left)Â Then i swapped HDD with the older MacBook. It managed to boot and start "normally" with exactly the same problems as the original HDD. The first thing that gets to my mind is that something might be fried inside the computer.Â
I restored the original HDD with TimeMachine (needless to say i still got the problem). I'm in the middle of my exam-papers, so its reaelly annoying its happening now.I also tried installing OS X SL using an external HDD with an image of the installer disk made in disk utilities, but this only gives me "kernel error" during booting (the annoying dimmed screen with a black box in the middle telling you to restart).Â
Today i took a look in the Activity Monitor and it shows the CPU acting strange, spending 100-120% on kernel_task ALL the time (see added picture). Is something wrong with the CPU? Is it possible to fry only one core in a CPU leaving the others intact?I have different components available for change as long as they match each other (Macbook pro 2010 and MacBook 2008). Â

Has anyone else out there ordered and received the MacBook Pro with HD Matte finish? Today I received my new MacBook Pro (the brand new 15" with 8Gigs RAM) with the HD display matte option. I was surprised by the silver bezel but have discovered that is normal. What I am not as sure about is there is no longer a smooth surface glass enclosure. (The silver bezel sits deeper in the enclosure and the screen a bit deeper still - there is room for a glass overlay.) This likely makes sense because of the antiglare, but I wanted to make sure. I guess I'm used to the old MacBook Pro 2.8 with the continuous monitor surface. Can anyone out there verify that I am not 'missing' the glass enclosure?

I put my MacBook on charge but nothing happened there was no orange or green light and in the top right hand corner it said 'not charging' . I tried it a few more times and then the led just flicked from green to orange so I shut the mac down just before it ran out of battery. I then borrowed my friends macbok charger the same power as my other one but now the led just flashes orange and as it mac won't turn on I guess it's not charging it properly.

I bought a MacBook Pro 13" in August 2011. A few days ago, I started to get a triple alarm sound (beep, plus battery indicator light flashes three times) and the system freezes (no keyboard or trackpad input, screen stays on). The triple beep continues until I shut it off through the power button.

I've been given a PDF file from someone's iPhoto library/slideshow images (by doing a Print-PDF-Save as PDF).
The PDF file looks fine, but several of the images are rotated the wrong way. When the slideshow was presented the images were all in their correct positions, but the PDF file only shows the landscape ones right.
I've tried using the "rotate" tool in Preview, but that rotates all images, which is of course not what I want.
I was hoping Adobe Acrobat pro 9, which I also have, would allow me to rotate images individually, then resave the PDF file but I can't quite figure out how, or if it's possible at all.

I am relatively new to my MacBook Pro and enjoy playing games. I forgot how to rotate a tile (jigsaw piece) using the keyboard and touchpad. I think the space bar is involved?? I have spent way too many HOURS online, MacBook for Dummies. I have also searched this site and found nothing.
