I got my laptop around a month ago and the lights were fine and i turned them off to save battery. Recently, i tried to turn them back on and it just comes up with a circle with a line through it meaning i can't do it. How can i make it work??
Why do I have a white circle with a line through it over Pages on my dock? This happened after I reinstalled Snow Leopard on my MacBook. How do I get rid of it?
I've just started really using my laptop and I've noticed when I look at certain angles I can see a circle of wear showing on the touchpad - normal. My fingers are always clean.
I'm reinstalling OSX Lion and I got as far as Command- R and the computer restarted and has been on a blank screen with a circle with a line going through it and the cursor has been spinning for about 50 min now....it never gave me an option to click reinstall What is it doing? Is it removing the current OSX?
I was minding my own business, listening to iTunes and chatting on Adium, when the little spinning wheel came up and my desktop froze - no big deal I thought, and restarted it. But on load up, all I was getting was a little 'No Entry circle with line through it' style symbol on the grey screen. After browsing various forums I tried to reset the pram, then I tried holding down 'x' on start up, at which point a very loud noise happened and now all I'm getting is a flashing folder with a ? in it appear, for about 2 minutes after which my MacBook turns off!
I've tried putting in my OS X install disk and holding down 'c' and 'd' on start up, but nothing is working? When I restard with the Option key held down; i get a 'EFI Boot' logo and a little arrow, which when I click; nothing happens I'm not in warranty and I don't have Apple Care There's nothing important on my harddrive so I don't care about losing Files, I just want to be able to re-install OS X 10.4, or restart it or what ever.
I have my imac apart right now and replaced the internal HD as it was not working. I assume the problem is the new one is not formatted with OSX, so from the INSTALL CD I opened the disk utility and see only one drive called "MEDIA".? Or is that just part of the install dvd that looks like a HD? In the system it shows as not formatted, 0 bytes. When selected in Partition it says :
"This voume is the startup volume and cannot be erased. Size 7.1 GB The disk is not writable and cannot be partitioned"
So i guess thats not my new HD I am seeing? Other than that there is only the two OSX install CD icons.
My mail icon on the sidebar has a red circle with #'s in it even though I have read all of the mail. How do I get rid of it so it only turns up red when I have new mail?
We have a MackBook Pro that we bought in 2012 and we have done all of our latest updates except the new OSX. About a week ago we noticed that our volume display shows that the volume is turned all the way up but you have to be within three feet to hear anything. We use to play our iTunes library and the sound nearly filled the house.
I turned my MacBook Pro off before I went to sleep, and this morning when I awaken. I can't seem to turn up or down my volume. It comes up with all the volume bars and a little circle sign with a diagonal line in the middle, like a stop sign. I have gone to system preferences > Volume > Output BUT all my volume preferences have gone all light grey and wont let me access them.Â
I just noticed my available HD volume as approx 4 GB. This is strange because I usually have about 28 GB. I don't think I have done anything in the past few days which has loaded 24GB onto my harddisk.
Furthermore, everything is running just as smoothly/quickly as usual whereas any available space under 20GB would slow things down immensely.
Therefore I get the impression that the available HD space is not what it shows, and in fact, much more.
I have tried to 'check volume' in the help programme but this gives an error. Unfortunately the text is in Dutch but the error translates as : 'volume needs to be "corrected".
I am afraid to do this as I may erase my entire harddisk?
i tried several things like zapping the PRAM, open firmware, and taking out RAM. also took out my pci wireless card and usb card. nothing helped, but eventually it booted up. i thought that the hard drive was probably dead but i couldnt boot off a tiger install disc when i tried.its been having problems starting up everyday since then. sometimes it will boot with the circle spinning and just stay there. other times it will boot with some junk on the screen and the restart message underneath, boot up with no spinning circle, or have the apple change to a circle with a slash through it
I was listening to my itunes through headphones today, and right after I took the headphones out, my volume icon and slider are grayed out and unresponsive, and my volume buttons bring up the volume square-thing with a white "no" circle under the volume level. I've restarted my computer multiple times, blown out the headphone input with compressed air, verified my disk through disk utility and it said everything is fine, yet the problem persists.
A while back I started noticing some odd behaviour in Messages AppÂ
We use this at the office to communicate between systems, and often send image files back and forth between co-workers. Recently though a bug began in which images don't actually show in line, but rather simply show the filename and a link to open it in Finder.
The weirdest part of the bug is that if the chat window is open in the background the image will display just fine. However as soon as I switch to make it active in order to respond or quicklook the image it immediately becomes the filename with the magnifying glass icon to direct me to it's location in finder.Â
MacBook Pro laptop with a model number of 10.5.8 doesn't turn on properly. When it turns on there is only a blue screen with a folder and a question mark on it. How to troubleshoot my laptop.
When I turned on my computer this morning the display was off center and could only see one half on the screen and the other half was black and all the colors were off lIke all the things that are normally blue were a weird reddish orangey color.
sometimes when the computer stars, the Bluetooth Icon in the Menubar doesn't appear. If I go to the bluetooth preferences panel it says it's on and the show menubar icon is checked. I've got to recheck it to see the icon again in the menubar. The icon shows up until maybe weeks later when it doesn't and I don't know why.
I am trying to get pictures off an SD card that I have in a card reader, plugged into the USB port. I'm not finding an icon for this anywhere! I've tried 2 card readers, as well as plugging my camera right into the USB port, and none of them show up! It was working just find 2 days ago, and now it's not. The USB port shows up in System Profiler, but not in Disk Utility.Â
