I am trying to hook a macbook pro up to a windows workgroup. I follow the directions to go into utilities and then Directory Access. The Directory Access is not there.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI received my macbook this afternoon and am currently trying to network my old dell with it so I can transfer my files. However, I cannot find the 'directory access' which is supposed to be in my utilities file- I have 'directory utility' but this has nowhere for me to enter the name of my windows workgroup (as per networking guide says I should) and thus cannot enter it into finder>go>connect to server!

I'm upgrading from Leopard to Snow Leopard, and I want to format my HDs before installing, because I want to repartition them.
However, I can't find "Utilities" and "Disk Utility" in the installer (I am at the point where after you click agree to the agreement and where you choose your disk to install SL on)
I recently upgraded to 10.6.4 but stupidly did not create a back up immediately afterwards. Now, a couple of weeks on, after some music software crashed I appear to have lost all my system utilities files in the Utilities folder inside the Applications folder. This includes my disk Ulity File. I cannot locate them via finder and although I have certainly not deleted them, they have gone. I can't repair my permissions etc. I tried restoring the Utility folder contents from the previous OX version via Time Machine, however ( as expected) I got a message declaring the Utilities file was not the correct version.

On step 1 it ask to "open boot camp assistant (located in Applications/Utilities/) and follow the on-screen instructions." I can't find Boot camp Assistant in the utilities folder. I am using a white macbook with mac os x 10.4.11.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI bought a MacBook Pro a couple of days ago and after some worry found out my "click" was the motion sensor in the notebook. I was wondering if there is a way to make it "less sensitive" or turn off? It's driving me crazy, I don't know if mine is more sensitive than others or what. I did a Google search on it and it said in the "finder" menu you could select utilities to view the sensor, however I can't seem to find "utilities".
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Macbook (white unibody) running Snow Leopard. I have a personal wireless network using an Airport Extreme and I have an external hard drive (WD) connected to the Airport Extreme. I use this hard drive for my Time Machine Back ups.
I just got back from a trip and tried to back up my time machine. I got the error that the back up disk is not available. I then tried to open the airport utilities.
It tells me that "Airport Utilities is unable to find any Airport Wireless devices". I find this doubly strange because I have no problem connecting to the internet on this wireless network which supposedly does not exist.
when starting my mac air a lot os utilities opens, I would like to change the start up, how?

I have an old MacBook (not sure how old - it was a handed down to me by a friend). It was working fine until this past week. I downloaded a Yosemite update and One Drive and now it won't start!
Basically, when I power up it displays a 'No Entry' sign, spends around 20 minutes on the Apple logo and the 'creeping' progress bar, and then when it gets to the end opens OS X Utilities. I am trying to get in contact with Apple Support but I cannot do this without the serial number, which I cannot seem to locate in OS X Utility.

I recenty bought a macbook pro used off craigslist. I tried to system restore the computer. ( so i could start off with a fresh empty computer) I used disk utility to clear all the memory on the drives, then i proceded to click on the tab that says "install lion osx". Everything started working, but it required me to type in my apple id to complete the instalation. When i logged in it said that my account doesnt have lion bought on it, and i need to use an account that does. I have no clue on how to get lion operating system onto my account without physically logging into my computer and buying it. But since my computer will only start up into the Mac os x utilities menu im not able to buy it.
I want to to a complte system restore
I did was restart and now I am stuck in OS X Utilities. I have 4 options:
1) Restore from Time Machine Backup.
2) Reinstall OS X.
3) Get Support online.
4) Disk Utility.
I tried disk utility first and it repaired a volume issue. I started the 1) restore from Time Machine backup. But it says "you will lose all info currently on the disk. Make sure you have backed up any items you want to keep." Should I continue?
I am hoping I will not lose pictures and my whole iTunes music catalog?

About a week ago I purchased a 2007 Macbook off of Ebay. It arrived in the mail and i opened it only to find out he had not deleted a majority of his content. I looked up how to reset it and I did. It turned back on and displayed a Mac OS X Utilities page. I tried repairing my disk and that didn't work. I tried erasing it & after a couple of times that worked. Except I cannot get past that point. I have no Time Machine back up since I just purchased it. So I decided to try my last option and tried downloading Lion. It had asked for my Apple I.D. and I typed it in and once i clicked continue it said that "iTunes is temporarily unavailable" so I tried it again. Nothing. I even tried my mother's I.D. It still comes up saying that it is temporarily unavailable. I cannot access it. I'm stuck on that Utilities page and cannot access anything.

When ever I turn on my Mac it starts up in Utilities and gives me the 4 options to restore from Time Machine, reinstall OS X, contact Apple, or to open Disk Utility. Unfortunately, I had never made any Time Machine backups.
When I try to reinstall the OS it tells me that my hard drive is locked.
Disk Utility tells me that it can't repair Macintosh HD and to back up as many of my files as possible, reformat the disk, and to restore the backed up files.
Since I can't create a Time Machine back up, what can I do to save my files and such if I choose to reformat? Is there possibly a way to unlock my hard drive to reinstall the OS? I guess I'm asking what is the best corse of action in this scenario?

I've been having problems with iCal and would like to reinstall it using Utilities Disc 1 with the Superdrive. However, there only appears to be an option to reinstall ALL the bundled software, at which point I've aborted the reinstallation process. Sledgehammer to crack a nut! It's only iCal I'm having trouble with (e.g searches not clearing down, "today" button greys out.) If it's not possible to reinstall just iCal from disc, does anyone know a way to "repair or mend" a malfunctioning iCal?

I was able to get my iTunes streaming to my airport express last night after much frustration. I have a question though. In order for me to stream music to my stereo I have to direct my airport utilities to the express manually, and when linked to it I lose my internet access. Is this the normal routine, or should I be able to do both at once and never have to manually switch the airport utilities? After reading all the trouble people have had with the AE, I guess I should just be happy it's actually working. I started to question the purchase after some research.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if it is okay to move applications in the "Applications" folder to the "Utilities" folder. Does it actually make any difference? Will everything work just as fine as if it was in the "Applications" folder?
I am asking because there are apps like Automator, which I never use, but would like to keep. And since Automator comes with OS X, it makes it look like as if I shouldn't remove it.
I have tried:
Disk Utility
Disk Warrior
Drive Genius 2
TechTool Pro 5
When I tried to rebuild the hard drive on each one, they all gave me the result, "failed," basically, except TechTool Pro 5, which said it completed it with no problems, but obviously it had no idea what it was speaking of because the external hard drive still did not mount on the desktop. I chose basically every thing that each program offered me that might help the disk, but I think it's finally dead. I've had to rebuild it about 3 or 4 times now and it's only been a year or so...
The problem is with a mbp running Snow Leopard. I created a dual boot with win 7. I was playing around with the partitions, and at one point installed SL on both partitions, sure i did some other bone head moves that i can't remember. Now cannot remove the second partition. I think i may need a boot disk with a application to partition the HD from the disk?
View 1 Replies View RelatedOur macbook woke up with a blinking hard drive. I went to boot up with a CD and run Disk Utility, and used the install disk that came with our Mac Mini.
Instead, it says I can't install on that mac, and all options are disabled.
I didn't expect to be able to install from that disk, but why can't I even use disk utility?
Obvious answer to obvious question - I can't find the Leopard disk I used with the macbook.
