OS X :: Changing 4 Finger Gestures - Adding 3 Finger Click?
Apr 12, 2009I was wondering if anyone knew how to change the 4 finger gestures built into OSX? I've looked around and found no way to override them. If nobody is knows directly how to accomplish this I'd also be interested in knowing what libraries the handlers may reside in so I can poke around and try and do it myself.
I'm also interested in trying to find a way to make 3 finger tap do a middle click. Or something along those lines.
OS X :: Can't Find Utilities In SL Installer?
Apr 25, 2010I'm upgrading from Leopard to Snow Leopard, and I want to format my HDs before installing, because I want to repartition them.
However, I can't find "Utilities" and "Disk Utility" in the installer (I am at the point where after you click agree to the agreement and where you choose your disk to install SL on)

Apr 8, 2012I am having serious issues with my Mac Book Air. Upon start-up it brings me to Mac OSX Utilies page and not my log in page. Has anyone got an idea on how I repair it so that I can get onto my normal start up page.

OS X :: Utilities Folder Has Disappeared / How To Find Them
Sep 25, 2010I recently upgraded to 10.6.4 but stupidly did not create a back up immediately afterwards. Now, a couple of weeks on, after some music software crashed I appear to have lost all my system utilities files in the Utilities folder inside the Applications folder. This includes my disk Ulity File. I cannot locate them via finder and although I have certainly not deleted them, they have gone. I can't repair my permissions etc. I tried restoring the Utility folder contents from the previous OX version via Time Machine, however ( as expected) I got a message declaring the Utilities file was not the correct version.

Jan 3, 2009I was able to get my iTunes streaming to my airport express last night after much frustration. I have a question though. In order for me to stream music to my stereo I have to direct my airport utilities to the express manually, and when linked to it I lose my internet access. Is this the normal routine, or should I be able to do both at once and never have to manually switch the airport utilities? After reading all the trouble people have had with the AE, I guess I should just be happy it's actually working. I started to question the purchase after some research.

Aug 18, 2009I was wondering if it is okay to move applications in the "Applications" folder to the "Utilities" folder. Does it actually make any difference? Will everything work just as fine as if it was in the "Applications" folder?
I am asking because there are apps like Automator, which I never use, but would like to keep. And since Automator comes with OS X, it makes it look like as if I shouldn't remove it.

TechTool Pro 5
When I tried to rebuild the hard drive on each one, they all gave me the result, "failed," basically, except TechTool Pro 5, which said it completed it with no problems, but obviously it had no idea what it was speaking of because the external hard drive still did not mount on the desktop. I chose basically every thing that each program offered me that might help the disk, but I think it's finally dead. I've had to rebuild it about 3 or 4 times now and it's only been a year or so...
OS X :: Cannot Remove Partition Using Disk Utilities
Jul 23, 2010The problem is with a mbp running Snow Leopard. I created a dual boot with win 7. I was playing around with the partitions, and at one point installed SL on both partitions, sure i did some other bone head moves that i can't remember. Now cannot remove the second partition. I think i may need a boot disk with a application to partition the HD from the disk?

Apr 29, 2009Our macbook woke up with a blinking hard drive. I went to boot up with a CD and run Disk Utility, and used the install disk that came with our Mac Mini.
Instead, it says I can't install on that mac, and all options are disabled.
I didn't expect to be able to install from that disk, but why can't I even use disk utility?
Obvious answer to obvious question - I can't find the Leopard disk I used with the macbook.
Software :: Cannot Reset Password Through Utilities
Sep 28, 2009I inserted the Mac OS X install disc. Went through utilities --> reset password. Problem is when I tried to save the new password it gave me this prompt: "The password you entered has not been saved for the user System Administrator(root). You may not have permission to edit this disk or a general failure has occurred." It's a 13" MacBook with leopard.

OS X Mavericks :: Stuck On Utilities Screen
Dec 8, 2014My late 2008 macbook pro 2.4 ghz 4gb Ram 250 gb HD has mavericks on it im not sure exactly which version but I know its mavericks. When I boot it sticks on the apple logo with spinning wheel. When I boot into OSX utilities I get stuck. I can move the mouse but cant click on anything. Hitting the up and down keys lets me highlight the 4 available options which are "restore from time machine backup" + " reinstall osx" + "get support online" + "disk utility" I cannot choose any of these options no matter what buttons I press or how many times I try to click on it. Press up or down and I can change what is highlighted between the 4 choices immediately.

MacBook :: No Entry Sign And OS X Utilities
Dec 1, 2014I have an old MacBook (not sure how old - it was a handed down to me by a friend). It was working fine until this past week. I downloaded a Yosemite update and One Drive and now it won't start!
Basically, when I power up it displays a 'No Entry' sign, spends around 20 minutes on the Apple logo and the 'creeping' progress bar, and then when it gets to the end opens OS X Utilities. I am trying to get in contact with Apple Support but I cannot do this without the serial number, which I cannot seem to locate in OS X Utility.

After I shut the computer down and later opened it up the gab icon was back in the dock. I again quit the application and again it is back in

Sep 23, 2009I don't know what happened, I was using my laptop fine this morning, this afternoon when I opened it up again and tried to open my applications on the dock, they all have big question marks on them. So I went to my applications folder and there is nothing there. I have even lost itunes and safari and all the utilities that comes with apple. I still have all my movie collections and folders and pictures though. It's just my applications that I can't find. I did a little reading and found out that I might have to "repair the permissions" but I don't have "disk utility" to do that with cause it's not there. Is repairing the permission the solution? And if so, is there another software that can do that for me? I have a macbook unibody, running os 10.5.8.

Feb 1, 2012Am I right in thinking it's better to leave your Mac alone and maybe run disk utility once in a while.Will regular use of Onyx, Memory Freer, Disk Diet etc slow down the Mac and cause more problems longer than benefits they give you in the short-term.I do use these apps regularly especially Onyx. I have noticed the beach ball appearing recently and I have read tonight that programs like Onyx can slow down your machine.

Mar 25, 2012I recenty bought a macbook pro used off craigslist. I tried to system restore the computer. ( so i could start off with a fresh empty computer) I used disk utility to clear all the memory on the drives, then i proceded to click on the tab that says "install lion osx". Everything started working, but it required me to type in my apple id to complete the instalation. When i logged in it said that my account doesnt have lion bought on it, and i need to use an account that does. I have no clue on how to get lion operating system onto my account without physically logging into my computer and buying it. But since my computer will only start up into the Mac os x utilities menu im not able to buy it.

Apr 4, 2012My first generation Mac pro booted into utilities and HD recovery when I restared after installing Autodesk sketchbook pro. This isnt the first time this has happened but last time I was not trying to install any software. Fortunatly, I have time machine backups and therefore have managed to recover the HD to a recent date and I intend to do a complete system check when it has finished.
