Apr 26, 2012I connot burn a DVD. I get the message "The burn to the HL-DT-ST DVDRW GS23N drive failed. The burn failed because of a medium write error." I re-booted, tried different brands of DVDs and slowed the burn speed with no results.

Jul 21, 2009last week i tried burning a dvd using roxio toast, but before it began to burn it says the following error: the drive reported an error: sense key = medium error sence code = 0x73, 0x03 i tried to use another dvd, but it is saying the same error (i have been using the same brand of dvd before but never encountered such problems), so tried to restart, and it proceeded to burn, no more errors, so i thought it was only a one time thing, so today, i tried burning again, the same thing happen, the same error, i tried 4 dvd's but the same error keeps on happening, but when i restart the macbook pro, it would proceed to burn with no errors. i wonder what seems to be the problem? my dvd drive or the software? anyone encountered the same problem before?

Apr 6, 2007I keep trying to burn a CD-R, and every time itunes stops burning halfway through and i get this error message, "Attemp to burn a disc failed. Burn failed due to a medium write error." I am using memorex CD-R's and have tried with 4 times with different CD's. Is this a software or hardware problem? Any info would be awesome.

Jul 22, 2006I'm quite new to Mac, and although everything is pretty clear, I haven't yet figured out how to burn a DVD. Everytime I try, it'll give an error 0x8002006E and stop burning.
- Reading is and has always been fine.
- I'm using Philips DVD-R discs.
- I'm on a white 2Ghz MacBook It's supposed to be able to burn DVD-R, right?
I have tried to do it from the finder, and creating a disc image, and burning it from the disk utility.

Sep 26, 2009MAC error 0x80020022 and 0x8002006D; trying to burn DVD on G4 powerpc (2002). OS 10.4.11 tiger. The two different errors come up at different tries of burning. amount being burned is about 4.2 Gigs on 4.7 gig disks, same error received after reducing size. Cleaning laser head by first using dvd cleaner disk then tried removing dvd and found it looking vary clean. used Isopropyl small amount on Q-tip. Same error. Tried using Onyk to remove cashes - that screwed me up a bit getting DSL back up. Tried new install of OS 10.4 and then rebuilding back to 10.4.11. I am using the MAC burning software as I dumped iDVD a ways back, I found that iDVD did not load up with the reinstall but I don't think that is relevant for burning. I can burn CD with no problem, and I can read both CD and DVD no problem. My DVD are kept in dark and a drawer away from heat. I do not find a specific Apple.plist in Library that might point to this dvd burning issue. so far on the internet have found no one solving this issue but the problems seem common among many different mac computers and OS.

Oct 2, 2005I have an iMac G5. I bought a stack of 50 DVD recordable. My DVDs burn fine about half the time, but for the other half I get the dreaded error code 0x80020022. I close all other applications when burning, but this doesn't seem to help or predict any success.

Jun 29, 2012Hey there! I don't seem to get through this Issue. I was trying to burn content to a Disc and it failed with the error code 0x8002006E, while the process was almost complete. I came across a few forums and nothing helped much to resolve this problem. Is there someone who knows the exact cause? Is this is a known-issue or anything already being addressed by Apple? Or a work-around to get this resolved? because i also read (did not try) that no third-party applications, as an alternative, solved this Issue. Disappointed! Help! Nov 1, 2007Shortly before switching to Tiger, I was having problems burning DVD's. I noticed it first with toast, but found that it also was happening with the onboard burning software for Mac OS X. Every time I tried burning, it would start into the burn and then give me this error: Sorry, the operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occurred (Error code 0x8002006D). I did a hardware test, reinstalled system software, and searched all over Google for any possible solutions. I found tons of people with the same problems, but everyone's solutions seemed to differ, and non seemed to work conclusively.
Some said that the lazer was having calibration problems and suggested using a cleaning DVD. Others said that if I created a new user and switched, then it would work. I tried that, and it just got worse. Others said that the media was not good but I've burned with the exact same media in the recent past, and it worked just fine then. Why would it stop accepting a certain type of media all of the sudden. Besides. My co-workers have the same computers, and they can burn just fine. Do I need a new drive, or is it just a simple software problem? CDs burn fine, but no DVD-Rs.

Mar 18, 2012This error probably indicates a hardware problem or some system malfunction. I usually try to find out what exactly went wrong to take measures to avoid the repetition of the same problem. Exchanging the HD and restoring the sytem may be the quicker solution, but I would miss an opportunity to reconfigure my system to make it more robust.
The system in question is a MacMini (Model A1347) with Os-X-Server 10.6.7. and 2 physical HDs: HD1 has 2 Partitions, the smaller for the server OS, the larger for the Shares (We use the MacMini only as a file server). HD2 is not used (was kept in reserve for cases like this).
That there may be a problem manifested itself first when the mounting of the shares on HD1 became suddenly slow (within 2-3 days) and eventually failed. I first tried to copy all the files from the shares on HD1 to HD2 before attempting any repair actions. Most of the files copied properly but a few failed with error (-36). Those few can be restored from backups, so there is no data loss. Remains the question, what went wrong?
It may be pure coincidence but just before the File-Server failed there was an attempt to upgrade a 3rd party software on one of the clients (17'' MacBook Pro / OS X 10.6.8) to a newer version. Could be that new version was part of the problem because the data files of this 3rd party software are stored on one of the shares on HD1 and the data file format has been changed between the versions. For obvious reasons I need to make sure that this data file conversion was not the cause of the problem?
1) first check the HD1 with a different tool than DiskUtility (It thinks the HD1 is in perfect shape), TechTool Pro or DiskWarrier comes to my mind, any reason to prefer one over the other?
2) Hopefully those tools can reliably test whether the HD1 is damaged or not. If it is the former the HD1 replacement option is the way to go and there is no more reason the 3rd party software may have been involved. However if HD1 is not damaged I'm left with the uncertainty of what exactly lead to the problem..?
3) Is there any check I should do before I just re-format the HD and re-install the OS and switch back to an earlier version of the 3rd party software to be on the safe side?

My disk utility has detected a problem and says I need the install disks that came with the computer. Called apple and they said I could reboot from snow leopard or the upgrade.** Problem is that I don't have any disks with me except those that came with my brand new iMac. Can I use those to reinstall the system? Is there any other way?
**They also said that after 2007, the install disks that come with computers are keyed to that specific computer so I "might" not be able to use the disk to repair.
Additionally, and I don't know if this makes a difference but I have the airport/time capsule which backs up my computer for easy restore.

Apr 22, 2012The only disk my MacBook will play is the Snow Leopard start-up / restore disk. I've gone through all options I can think of to bring the thing back to life (from full software restore and SMC) but to no avail - even tried playing disks with the mac turned upside down. It takes the disk, churns away, spits it back out - whether it's a CD or DVD. Is my last and only resort a trip to the repair centre or is there another option?

Sep 24, 2009I have the early 2006 17" first intel Macbook pro , My DVD drive stopped reading any Drive i put into , I've noticed that a couple of weeks back, but it would read them after a while.
Today I've tried installing SL on it and the drive keeps on spinning and spinning and the it would be ejected out , I've tried several times to no avail , tried switching users and it read the install DVD, pressed on install and it started installing , it required rebooting when the computer rebooted it stopped reading the drive!
Tried remote disk method to no avail, it cannot read other disk drives on the same network while the other computers read its drive, I've made sure that the share DVD option from the sharing pane in system preferences was enabled on both machines...

Jun 8, 2012i installed 10.6.3 on my 17" MacBook Pro (updating from 10.5.8). All my external disk drives which had all been visible to the system and accessible before the update no longer were visible to the OS. Not in the sidebar and not in the disk utility. After checking all connections etc. many reboots, resetting the pram i still am unable to see or access these disks. From there i updated to 10.6.8 but exactly the same results. i'm not sure where to go from here. i have 4 externals on 2 different usb routers and 1 external on a firewire router. I'm considering removing the routers and trying each drive separately and directly connected to the laptop.
