OS X :: Factory Restoring Macbook Without Disks?

Dec 18, 2010

So low and behold, my macbook box was thrown out (I don't want to talk about it), with my restore disks in it. Can I factory restore my Mac without them? I just purchased Snow Leopard tonight if that helps at all?

MacBook :: Restoring To Factory - Cannot Get Disc To Boot?

Mar 22, 2009

I'm trying to restore my Macbook (white) to factory defaults and I can't get the disk to boot and am having trouble. Whenever I load the disk in and restart holding c, the disk spins and then spits out and the computer boots to Mac OS X (Leopard). I've reset the nvram, the pram, repaired permissions with no success. I used to have Bootcamp installed, but I read that may cause problems so I uninstalled it and it still won't work. These are the grey disks that came with the computer when I bought it new a few months ago so I know they work. They say Mac OS X Disc 1/Disc 1. Any suggestions to getting the disk to boot instead of spit out?

MacBook Pro :: Restoring Brand New System To Factory Defaults

Jul 28, 2010

I migrated my old MBP to my new one last night. Everything was good except that I could not log onto my schools network. I have had this problem since my old MBP. I figured that by migrating my 'Preferences' I migrated the problem along with. After many attempts at many work-arounds, I decided that I will just start fresh.

Here is what I have done:
1) I popped in the factory disc and held 'C'
2) Utility ->Disk Utility ->Erase. I selected the Hard drive. The one in the top of the hierarchy. This also cleared the name of 'Macintosh HD' to 'Untitled'.

Now I did not realize that I was supposed to rename my hard drive "before" clicking erase. This is not a big deal, but was just wondering if I will be able to change that later? Do you think that when I go to use migration assistant this next time, if I only opt to migrate "Files and Folders" and "Applications" this will most likely solve my network configurations problem? That is, it will leave my network settings at the factory defaults so I start fresh?

MacBook Pro :: Restoring Factory Settings - Alternates Between Black And Gray Screen

Aug 1, 2009

Im selling my macbook pro and am trying to restore it to factory settings. I have inserted the "install disc" many times. However, my laptop is never able to start up. It alternates between a black and grey (no apple or wheel) screen. I've tried holding down the "C" key while rebooting..that didnt work. I've tried clicking restart when it instructs me to...that didnt work I've tried going to system preferences --> startup disk --> clicking the install drive and it still didnt work. What can I do? My mac can start up and work perfectly fine without the disk, its just that i need to restore it to factory settings.

MacBook Pro :: Restoring To Factory Settings - Erasing Disk And Reinstall Lion Via Internet

I was restoring my MacBook pro to its factory setting by erasing the disk and reinstalling OS X lion via internet. But it is failing telling me that my network is very slow while I used the best network in my area. How should I get an OS X lion to my CP? Is it possible to get it from another MacBook pro? Or is it possible to recover the erased OS X Lion without or with external disc?

I'm getting ready to order a new one and I can't find my original install disks. Can I do a fresh install of the OS on a new HD with just the Leopard install disk? I have a set of Mac Pro install disks, but don't know if they will work (missing divers?).

OS X :: Time Machine / Restoring 10.5 With 10.4 Disks

Oct 1, 2010

I'm running on an iMac and my system recently crashed. I went through the whole process of trying to reboot in Safe mode, then running Disk Utility, then 'fsck'. Looks like my drive should work, but it still freezes upon startup.

So. My last option is to reinstall OS X from my install disk. Not a big deal since I've been running Time Machine backups on an external drive. Here's the problem: my install disk is 10.4.10 but my backups are from Leopard. I upgraded to Leopard online without purchasing a disk.

Is there any way to do a full system restore from my Time Machine backup without the 10.5 disk?

Can I reinstall 10.4, then upgrade to Leopard (or Snow Leopard), and then run my full restore? Would I then need to clone my system to a separate drive before restoring to my internal drive?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Restoring MacBookPro To Factory Settings?

Feb 22, 2012

So I recently purchased a MacBook Pro and used Migration Assistant to transfer my files.  I realized after that I should have transfered right at the beginning when I had the chance for Setup Assistant, because I have a lot of files that require permission from my other user account on my old MacBook.  I went to Disk Utilities, and there were two options to "Erase Free Space", some Toshiba thing and Macintosh HD (I am assuming was the hard drive that was transferred).  I pushed "Erase Free Space" and closed down disk utility, but it looks like it didn't delete my hard drive because all the applications and files are still there.  I am now reinstalling OS X Lion hoping it will bring me back to that first screen where it askes if i want to transfer from another computer.  Am I doing this right? I feel like I'm gonna mess something up and i've already wasted 5 hours already trying to fix my primary mistake of using Migration.

OS X :: System Re-installation Via Install Disks / Install Disks Not Present?

Nov 27, 2010

I have a Macbook Pro Intel Core Duo (first generation of MacBook Pro released). I run OSX 10.6.5. My disk utility has detected a problem and says I need the install disks that came with the computer. Called apple and they said I could reboot from snow leopard or the upgrade.** Problem is that I don't have any disks with me except those that came with my brand new iMac. Can I use those to reinstall the system? Is there any other way?

**They also said that after 2007, the install disks that come with computers are keyed to that specific computer so I "might" not be able to use the disk to repair.

Additionally, and I don't know if this makes a difference but I have the airport/time capsule which backs up my computer for easy restore.

OS X :: Cannot Install 10.5.4 From New MacBook Disks

Dec 29, 2008

I purchased my MacBook in August 2006 and it came with 10.4.X and I have been fine with using that OS. However, just recently (august 08) my sister purchased another Macbook. Her Macbook came with the 10.5.4 install disks. I tried to put these into my macbook just to see if for some reason apple was nice enough to allow people who purchased new macbooks to update all other macbooks they owned. However, it does not appear to work that way. Is there any way I can get the 10.5.4 Install disks to work on my macbook (purchased august 06) that is currently running 10.4.11?
